Straddles and Combos made so much more sense after this video. Kaplan tip that I picked up relating to the practice question. You BUY (LONG) Protection and SELL (SHORT) for Income. So with that question answer being a long straddle, you bought both. Buy Protection

No. Because there is no stock position to protect. You would be correct if there was a stock position. In a long straddle you are not buying protection. You are buying volatility.

So, the most attractive part about buying long Straddles or long strangles is that you get to profit a lot from the movement in one direction but not lose as much in the other direction - because the delta is inversely proportional. The more the stock goes in one direction - the faster that side grows and the slower the losing side falls, simultaneously.

Not really. For one leg to be a winner the other leg is a loser. At expiration one if one leg is in the money the other leg expires worthless. Perhaps if you close out before expiration that could be true. Certainly not a Series 7 test issue.

@@Series7Guru I agree, definitely not a test issue. At any rate, I’d suggest selling a straddle before the expiration because when it exercises, it’ll still pay whatever remains on the legs. Yes, the losing legs would be worth nothing on a straddle at expiration - but American options are tradable at any time before that, of course. So, trade these and take the profit before a reversal of direction. Any time the price direction goes sideways or reverses, it loses a ton of time value. Straddles and strangles are for unknown volatility and uncertain news releases. e.g. FED meetings - and then probably sold the same day, following it up with a stop limit to protect the gains.
