This is a complete playthrough of level 12 -- Karnak -- on Serious Mode difficulty, without saving or dying.
Highlights:
This level is one of the most difficult in the game, especially if you try to complete it in one go like this. Any mistakes are punished brutally. I had to replay many, many times to get a complete playthrough.
0:00: Backing up immediately at the start of the level lets you access the Generous Yards secret area.
19:46: This room is chaos because it's relentless and you have nowhere to run away to. I didn't handle it very well, coming out with only 16 health.
23:18: Close quarters trap room but I needed that health very badly.
27:42: This large outdoor area is full of sudden multi-enemy triggers as you pass certain points. You can cheat your way through by swimming through the pool to the other side, but where's the fun in that?
30:56: This secret armor comes in very handy.
35:21: Pulling these switches enables the secret entrance seen at 39:22.
41:55: You can actually see me panicking as I screw up very badly in this fight, winding up with only 3 health at the end of it.
46:47: Secret room with Croteam funky physics.
49:16: I blow up the statues here because during the Kleer wave a few minutes later, it's a lot easier to deal with them if you can see them clearly and they aren't getting caught on the statues.
50:08: A thousand Marsh-Hoppers.
51:13: Kamikazes!
52:15: Kleers!
55:20: Gearing up for the final arena fights. Wave 1: Lava golems and kamikazes.
56:38: Wave 2: Kleers. I move into the shelter of the pillar here because the Adult Arachnoids will cut you to pieces if you stay out in the open.
58:17: Witch-Harpies, Gnaars, major Biomechs, werebulls. At the end, I again move into the cover of the pillar because of the Adult Arachnoids on high.
1:00:00: Final wave, werebulls, a few Kleers, and major Biomechs.
1:02:19: It starts to go very badly wrong as I get backed into a corner and start panicking. I kept thinking "please don't let me die in this final arena AGAIN." Still, I do manage to triumph.
Notes on the video:
I originally played and recorded these demos back in 2001, just after Serious Sam: The First Encounter was released. At the time I was an active member of the Serious Zone community site for Serious Sam fans, and was inspired by Dave Parson, who had posted his own set of Serious-mode complete-level playthroughs, so I recorded this set of demos of me doing the same.
The demos were originally uploaded to (and are still hosted on) the Serious Sam community site www.seriouszone... , now mostly defunct , but I'm now uploading these to KZbin because the original demo files required 1) that you actually have the game to play them, and 2) that you have the out-of-the-box, unpatched version of the game as well. If you had upgraded to the patched version of the game, several of the demos were unplayable past a certain point, so here you can see the levels played from start to finish as I originally recorded them.
Since the game has been remade in HD, almost no one plays the original Classic version of the game anymore, but I wanted these not to be lost to time.
