Jaysus lads, that's the heavy lifting right there! And never a flat surface or easy lift in sight. Fair play Martin, and I'm with you, a lie down for 20 mins and off again! Don't stop till ye drop! A Question Martin - how long do you think it will be BEFORE there's a true main bulk of users migrating to the new LiPo4 batteries? There's a massive benefit in terms of weight AND discharge ability, given they can be run down to almost zero, versus an AGM bank that you'll never be able to drop below 50% discharge. Hence needing a smaller size battery bank. And their physical size being smaller is another bonus. Are you seeing many leisure deep cycles going into the LiPo market on narrow boats? Price at the moment, is stopping me change over some, but the prices are coming down so maybe that time is coming soon? And are the victrons able to manage both lead acids and LiPo's, in a mixed arrangement? Lead starters and LiPo domestics? Keep those vids coming Martin, you're a legend! 👍👍👍

good job there was no martinnyte nearby or you'd have had more probs shifting them! you would think that the boats would have a removable (well slide out!) battery unit that could be unplugged and then moved in and out to remove some of the difficulty! mind your back... we all still need you 😊

Good to know I’m needed lol. Narrowboat design is still stuck in the 1800’s but there’s something about a modern design that I really don’t like. I’ve actually changed batteries that are a lot more difficult.

I had a works van that had 5 victron 220Ah batteries. I took 2 out after finding out how far overweight it was. It was still just over with a full fuel tank. 3 years ago the remaining ones got changed for some lifepo4. Wow what a difference. That was 280kg out and 44kg of lifepo4 in. Swapping 4 x 6v trojans out of the boat and fitting a lifepo4 i now have 3 inches less draught. Great for shallow canals.

LifeP04 are perfect for a van or motor home, weight means less in a narrowboat but if you gained 4” on your draft that’s definitely a win. More and more, I am installing lithium as energy demands increase in the boating world. Think my van was over with the 260Ah batteries in as I had other batteries in for other jobs.

@narrowboatelectrician our cratch is quite high and not being over tall it was difficult to see where I was going. But the extra height means I can see quite easily. Ps. The webasto thermotop evo instalation was really helpful.

I would have thought most would have gone for Lithium batteries now their price has reduced so much - I know it means they will need a DC to DC charger but they charge so much faster and have made a huge difference to our motorhome

Yes, I am doing more lithium these days. But now the price of the battery is about half of the total swap out. I wont connect lithium without right fusing and B2B chargers. Weight in a narrowboat is not really an issue as it is in a motorhome, so AGM or Lead Carbon is still the cheaper option.

@@narrowboatelectrician Yes you are right of cause - I used AGM and they lasted for about 5 years but sagged when using her hair dryer!

Hi Sorry for delay. There is no guidance on material. Most are wooden. There are rules on battery security, & ventilation

@@narrowboatelectrician thanks Martin we recently had our battery's upgraded from traditional sealed lead battery to quasar. All work well so far & I have put a vent in the compartment they are in. I will secure them with a suitable strap in the next few days. really do appreciate you get back to me thank you so much 👍

Very good quality batteries. The owner must be heartbroken that they’ve pegged out.

He had them 7 years, probably could of lasted longer, but they off on their travels and wanted to start afresh. They said see me in 7 years for next set bit I'll be 66 then.....think I'll pass on that!
