So refreshing to see something completely different in a main stream channel other than the usual 79's etc. Well done. 3 great vehicles all doing what we enjoy.

Wrong sort of rope for the capstan. Hemp is too slippery when wet. Normally it's a Sisal rope 1 inch diameter and the capstan needs to be run at idle only. Not actually a PTO winch, as there is no PTO auxiliary drive. The capstan drives directly off the nose of the crank pully via a ball-shaped coupler.

Check your oil catch can type. I had one of the el-cheapo plastic jobs that was not allowing enough ventilation and so pressurizing the crankcase, then oil is forced past front and rear seals. I binned the catch can, changed to a SAAS brand - no more oil leaks.
@PaletoB Жыл бұрын
Yea cleaning it might be enough.
@krump743 Жыл бұрын
Ditch the saas can too and jist get a provent catch can. Ull catch tonnes more oil with the provent.

Mate I just ditched my catch can altogether on my td42 GU.. because it was giving me a rear main leak. I've got No EGR, no DPF.. a tiny bit of oil mist in an old indirect injection diesel makes bugger all difference (after a lot of reading). Seen plenty of td42 GUs running upwards of 700,000km unopened with no catch can.. so bugger it.

Good stuff, and as always you guys have the best music. Thanks!

I reckon with the PTO winch you could wrap the rope around once more to help tighten. Otherwise use a thinner rope to get more wraps on the cylinder

What an awesome ride! Talk about the difference in terrain and track conditions. Always great to watch videos from this area.

Great to see you guys in WA again. Plenty to see & do. Winter is the time to hit the Pilbara Mt Meharry Mt Nameless in the Karijini National Park. Down south Yeagerup sand dunes with the widow maker Calcup Hill.

Hilarious that out of these 3 vehicles the Patrol is leaking the most oil 😂

comical. Great to see some different vehicle from the usual Landcruisers. That Series 3 is a great inspiration for the G60 build. The ol' trucks look so so good

Brilliant, the series guys are the real adventurers.

Great video, good to see the Landy's leading the patrol 😅, hey Mark and review on the seats you are using!

Hey geoff its as if the capstan needs its fairlead to force the rope down so you can get that third or 4th wind

Ok, the Oztrail RTT is on the Patrol and a James Baroud on the Defender.....whats happening there? Holland Tack and the surrounding Burra Rock and Caves Rock are incredible early day pioneer engineering. Worth the detour if you get the chance. Seriously Series guys, great viewing on their channel and they seem to thrive on adversity!
@SIDETRACKED Жыл бұрын
Tent widths allows them to sit between the rails on both vehicles, saving additional brackets and height. Nick also wanted to use the new tent at the time before any review came out. 👍

That sidetracked landrover looks damn right tough. What a weapon. Back to the james baroud tent on the landrover again? Is this an old old video or have u swapped back to the JB?

Just sharing it round so Nick can also try out the OzTrail Canning RTT.

The fact you're running a james baroud rtt says it all about the oztrail... Cant beat quality im guessing?
@SIDETRACKED Жыл бұрын
The James Baroud tent is wider, so it fits on the Defender between the side rails. Your keen eye might have seen the Oztrail on the trip also (on the Patrol), which has a narrower rack. They're on par quality wise so far. 👍

Nick you poor bastard mate; the old girls done you bloody well. With all the big flies starting to go wondering if it’s either engine swap time or time for a new car now mate? & was wondering where you guys met yep- we could all feel how shit that drive was of that old defender ute Mark bought in Hobart through the video 😂.
