I remember when JJ was the gadget QB that ran the ball, these past years with Orji being that guy, I see the same scenario playing out for him. I think Orji will come in and probably split time with denegal/warren week one and explode onto the scene the first few weeks. Texas early in the schedule is going to either hinder or help whoever they go with but I think Orji has the best shot and highest potential to be the guy for U of M this year. The unpolished Jalen Milroe comp is very fair and I agree with that, and as a Michigan fan I'm hopeful he can have that kind of skyrocketing success Milroe experienced the past year of his development.

Hell if I know. While Orji does not have good previous stats for accuracy, even in high school, inaccurate passers with arm strength have been known to level up, case in point: Josh Allen, or never quite got there, case in point: Joe Milton. Tuttle didn't have the best supporting cast anywhere else, and played well last year albeit in mop up duty, as did Denegal. Warren's spring game was encouraging. Davis may have the highest ceiling, but is also the greenest. I gotta think at least one of them will be very good, but still wouldn't place any bets.

It’s the only real blunder Michigan has had the past 3 years - not having a replacement for JJ ready. They let Dante Moore (UCLA/Oregon) Underwood (LSU) and Carr (ND) - 3 five star QBs, all from the state of Michigan, leave the state to play elsewhere. Miss one, ok, two…uhh, but all three! 🤦🏼♂️. They also did nothing in the portal to address the issue. Now we are left with Orji, Davis, Warren, and Tuttle. 😑 Orji clearly isn’t ready or this wouldn’t even be a question. He’s an athletic freak but can’t throw. Pretty important for a QB Davis, he looked scared in the spring game and needs a year to redshirt and get up to speed on everything. Warren, he looks like he has the best arm and played the best in the spring game (I know Tuttle didn’t play). But idk man, he doesn’t look like a big time college QB, let alone a potential NFL guy. So that’s not a great option… So we’re left with Tuttle, a 7th year guy who transferred from Indiana. The guy definitely isn’t the answer as I question if he even wants to play. He left Indiana, after Penix transferred, where he could have been the starter - to go ride the bench at Michigan and learn because he wants to coach after he graduates. So if he’s the starter I see 8-4, 9-3 at the very best. I didn’t even think of Denagal because he has no shot. The safe bet is Tuttle because he’s old. The best choice for passing is Warren, but the highest potential is Orji. I’m hoping Orji somehow figures it out before September 🤦🏼♂️

its kind of funny that everyone talks about Michigan's competition as being a bad thing or like non of the QBs are good. Lets not forget that this staff just watch JJ for 3 years, has played great or other high level QBs in games and knows how to look at guys in practice and evaluate what they have. With that being said there is a reason that Michigan had ZERO interest in looking to the portal for a QB transfer (maybe with Dante Moore but that is a Detroit kid that they had recruited heavily to begin with). With that what if the competition is about who will get a good QB but who will potentially be that great QB?

Wow...is certainly reading a script. Do you know know anything about the playing of the game??? Michigan's offensive system is not dependent upon the QB having great passing skills. They will continue to be a run-first, power-spread rushing attack. Orgi has all the intangibles for being an excellent QB and fits the Michigan prototype well.
@mattdrewdrums3 ай бұрын
Yeah, but we are dependent on the QB being a solid passer. Orji is far from that. He's a below average passer, at best. That is problematic. He will very likely be the backup that is used in special packages. That is the best strategic decision, as then 2 QBs can still be effectively utilized. If Orji starts, none of the other QBs can really be used in any way other than for insurance. Orji is clearly not a starter. A starter has to be a solid passer. Davis Warren looks like a starter. Orji's best skill is his athletic ability, so he should be used as a package QB. Starting a QB whose best skill is his athleticism is a recipe for disaster. It would simplify the job of opposing defenses-stack the box and disregard the pass.
