Moore not ready for prime time, never a head coach, never a coordinator on his own, should not be the head coach at Michigan for his first job, this should not be on the job training! Another bad AD decision. It’s not hindsight by me, it’s just the way it should be at one of top football schools in history and coming off a natty! 🤷🏻♂️ You can’t start the season with the QB room the way it is and not see the problem after watching these backups play for the last two or three years. Now they are going to their 3rd QB Tuttle, who is probably the best option that I’ve seen but him being injured often has been a big issue. Yes he made mistakes but when he took over you could see difference. Problem is the O line and receivers aren’t playing very well to say the least. The reason I have no patience for the coaches is because you look over at a team like Indiana, a team with like half the talent of Michigan and they look way scarier than us, and that is 100% because of the coaching. Sometimes rebuilds take time but this Michigan team has a ton of good talent on it, it’s not like Sherrone was starting from scratch. Obviously we can’t fire Sherrone after one season but holy shit I want both coordinators gone either by the end of the season or sooner. At this point Illinois, Indiana, Oregon, and OSU are looking like damn near guaranteed losses.

The prob w/ inexperienced coaches is, they don’t have a network or staff of coaches they won with…and they haven’t had time to make mistakes…that’s why it usually takes years to achieve success, and most coaches never do achieve success like UM demands. And many proven coordinators are looking for HC jobs. I like Moore as a person and a coach, but not as UM HC. Don’t want to wait 10 yrs for him to grow into the role. Recruits have a short memory. Michigan is loaded even if they do not have as much depth as a year ago. Plus, we nabbed the best player on Northwestern's offensive line and Maryland's best player, period exclamation point! The cupboard Harbaugh left was very strong. Very strong. Tuttle if not injured and had started the season ? Michigan would be 5-1 and ranked in the top 5. Instead ,TUTTLE never started during the entire first half of the regular season. YOU need to watch and learn grasshopper . Tuttle is a fine passer, and he will lead UM to glorious victories . He's not perfect, but he was a 4 star QB coming out of high school and / or is a 6 or 7 year veteran. Shew Steve thats tough to swallow but you are spot on! Multiple things can be true with this situation and it has levels. There has been plenty of things that have made me question some of Moore's decisions thus far this year. Steve you make a very good point when comparing where Washington is at currently to where Michigan is at. It's not particularly close either which should be the shocking thing. I do agree somewhat with the crowd that says Moore got handed a pretty bad situation BUT he went out and hand picked his current coaching staff so what has happened so far this season isn't on the departure of the old staff so much as how the new staff is under performing. Specifically we can spotlight the defense where there is plenty of talent yet its alarmingly worse than years past. Another glaring issue is how the QB position was handled during the off season, leading up to the season and now during the season. Just overall IMO its been botched which is one, if not the primary, reason our offense is so bad. The scary thing abou the QB situation is that someone or multiple coaches actually believed that we were set at the QB position and didn't see the need to get a transfer. I'm not even sure the coaching staff even attempted to reach out to anyone? Or I suppose Moore and the staff were so confident in the OL and running game being so dominant that they could make due with the QB room we had? Which in today's style of game you can not be one dimensional. Very frustrating seeing programs like Indiana, Minnesota, Washington and hell even Vanderbilt that went into the portal for a QB (along with other players) and they are performing well above the level of Michigan. All Stallions jokes aside, its no secret that the success of the previous few years and specifically in 2023 was the difference in QB play Michigan had compared to prior years. JJ was a very athletic and cerebral QB that was the difference between the last two decades of Michigan football and reaching the top of the mountain. It should not be that difficult to recruit an even decently athletic experienced QB out of the portal to Michigan. The main problem Michigan has with this situation is the scheme they run compared to other programs searching for a QB as well. Why would top tier QB's want to come to Michigan to throw for 15-20 passes a game and not make market value NIL while other programs will let the same QB throw 30+ passes a game for about the same NIL money with less pressure on them? The notion or thought process by the Michigan program (coaches/AD/recruiters) that seems to be this very old school smash mouth run the damn ball and over power everyone needs to get adjusted to the current style of college football. Stop being arrogant and bullheaded thinking you'll just bully ball everyone. Adapt and evolve to get on the same level as those programs that can bully teams but yet also have a more than capable passing attack like the Georgia's, Alabama's and Ohio St's. Long gone are the days of "give him 3/4 years to get his recruits in there". There is absolutely no excuse to not assemble a competitive team year after year if you can evaluate talent correctly and place said talent in the best possible positions to be successful. Create game plans and schemes that allow your talent to be succesfful which will showcase how good of a coach you are. We are currently seeing the opposite at Michigan and as a Michigan fan (that witnessed the natty in person) it makes me sad to see.

I quickly identified 4 other reasons that I believe are as relevant and offer some sanity to what is happening this season. First, Jim Harbaugh played the "am I staying or am I leaving" game almost every off-season and it hurt recruiting. Second, NIL is a significant factor. Until this recruiting cycle, Michigan's philosophy was "coming to Michigan is transformational and not transactional." Third, while it was hoped that the transition from Harbaugh to Moore would be seamless, it was not and many coaches left, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Fourth, even though some really good players stayed, it looks like many of them are suffering from a "natty hangover." Give them all some time unless the Coach feels he needs to make some coaching changes; it took Harbaugh almost his complete tenure to get the staff situation figured out.

The big issue is I just don’t see Warde Manuel getting rid of Moore after only one season. That’d be very uncharacteristic of him. He’ll most likely take the absolute least offensive option, give Moore a leash of at least three years, and would allow him to crater the program before the voices and boosters finally get loud enough force his hand. Nothing will happen. I obviously want Moore to succeed but this far everything indicates that he is in over his head and the program is nose diving. I think the Michigan AD and administration frankly, culturally just doesn’t give a shit about sports in the same way that OSU does and regularly makes things as difficult on themselves as possible. That’s the biggest fundamental issue IMO. Harbaugh managed to do what he did IN SPITE of the university admin, not with their support.

As a black man that is well educated when it comes to football...I told all my Michigan bro's Sherrone Moore was a bad hire..He has no experience at this level..Giving a black man a chance at head coaching I get that..but he should've proven his self first at another school like San Diego state..then come to Michigan after he has proven his self ..I don't feel like going through another rebuild season we did that with RR
@kevinfry18503 күн бұрын
I don’t even think that played into the decision. I think Michigan would have had a hard time hiring anyone worth pursuing this offseason. I think hiring Moore for both parties was like “ok let’s try this and see what happens” because the ncaa is going to bring down some sort of hammer.

They should've have kept him on that "prove yourself" contract. What was the point in keeping all the best players that weren't eligible for the NFL if you end up being a big ten bottom feeder after a championship? They should've just did a national search and reset but now they will waste millions when they inevitably get out of this contract with a coach who is not ready for this kind of job yet. Sherrone won't have the necessary network to hire the best coaches either bc he's so young and inexperienced.

And with the NOA and penalties to come, no big name coach is coming to UM. Plus with all the roadblocks and restrictions the school puts up when in comes to NIL, recruiting, etc., no coach with high expectations for success could ever win there. Harbaugh was a special case because of his past there. He had a long leash at UM. No future coach is going to get that. UM wants a coach they can control.

Beware the season after ... in recent years, I'm talking '98 and '07, respectively. After '97's nat'l title, the Irish blew us out in South Bend and 'Cuse/McNabb routed us in the Big House before Brady's emergence led to a 10-3 finish. In '07 - after flirting with the nat'l title for much of '06 - well, we know what happened in game one, don't we ? Even Mandarin speaking Chinese tea traders in Northwest Xiaopang Province know what happened. Then Oregon clocked us in AA the following week. That year ended in 9-4 with a lot of injured first round NFL draftees and dashed expectations. Hmm ... Michigan doesn't appear to be a school/team that can sustain prosperity - at a high level - for more than a few years. Kinda like the NY Jets back in the 2010's - they had a three year run, didn't they ?
