@skyluke94769 жыл бұрын
+Nastrael Rowe actually the camera made it seem as if it was leaving... but they were travelling right to left as it approached them because the road was on a bend. By the end of the shot they were moving away, but in the beginning they were getting closer just right to left.
@Archy111029 жыл бұрын
+Nastrael Rowe When spotter says that vehicle is "870yds and closing", he means vehicle is closing on that "white spot on the road" (a point of interception which is ranged to be 900yds) on which the shooter will aim with lead ("push 2 left, i.e. push point of aim 2 mil dots to left). The scenario is just fine.

At 33:20 you say more humidity= more moisture in the air = the bullet has more resistance on it. This isn't true, as air with more moisture in it is actually less dense that dryer air, because the molecules of H2O are smaller.

One problem with the last part of the video, was when u took the shot then ran. You should wait in future, let the guys look around for you, I mean, if they don't start shooting at you right away, they haven't seen you. So just stick around, watch them, then when everything has cooled down, move, otherwise you have a chance in getting compromised and being shot right as you are about to leave.

One thing I'd like to point out. When firing from an elevated position, you typically want to aim slightly lower than where you intend to hit, like say you're shooting for center mass (as you always should) you may want to aim more toward the groin to account for said elevation.

Rely good content. what makes long rang shooting even more difficult is that cross wind will not stay the same for, lets say 300m and it is very rear that you can get this under 1000m but you can get three different cross winds. And there is something called the Coriolis effect it is the effect that the earth has on your target you must go check it out if you have got time. (Nice shoot)

The REL values are good if you're adjusting your shot. So, you calculate the shot, everything remained the same except for, let's say, distance. Once you change distance and hit Calc, it should tell you how much you need to adjust from the previous condition. Meaning, if you do +5.5/+0.5 and your target moves 500 meters closer, now you gotta be at +5.1/+0.4, the REL value will show -0.4/-0.1. At least that's how it worked when I played with Advanced Ballistics pre-ACE3. If I'm wrong, please elaborate :)

Good video, but... Considering that wind is probably the second-most-important factor in long-range shooting, it'd have been nice if your section at about 43:50 to about 44:50 could have been a little more clear. Thanks for taking the time to upload a highly in-depth 1hr tutorial for us scrubs (thinking about it, probably a lot more than that if you include all the cuts, research, loading and editing to be done, even if you ignore YT upload times). EDIT: Also, at 51:30 (thereabouts), surely the Kestral *should've* showed small crosswind values, as there was a significant wind across your line of fire. This is evident when you fire, since you have to compensate left. EDIT2: What is this 'set zero' functionality? What's the point of it; what does it do, and why do you need it? Why would you want to offset the 'zero' mark on your rifle?
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
+Kill3rCat I agree, windage could have been explained better. But headwinds and tailwinds truly don't affect the shot much, unless you're in extreme conditions. Setting the zero is something important you have to do every time you start a mission. 14:00 in the video - the ACE coding for the zeroed values isn't as correct as it should be - to adjust for the m200, I actually had to adjust .7mils high to offset the imperfection.
@MBKill3rCat8 жыл бұрын
Seriously I find at most ranges above 300m, wind has a very significant effect on the bullet's trajectory. I'll rewatch the 14:00 bit.
@MBKill3rCat8 жыл бұрын
Seriously Ah, I see. So, where do you get the 'accurate' ballistic values? I hope that doesn't mean alt-tabbing to view GitHub whenever I want to take a long-range shot.
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
Just practice your rifle on the range and learn the true zero at 100meters. and then correct from there. Github is a good source of information but not a necessity.

@BrosFactory5 жыл бұрын
this tutorial is not entirely accurate. First of all, if you really want to set up your sniper career, you should learn to do all the calculations without an AtragMX using only kestrel, the calculator and your mind :). Secondly, answering your question, maybe you are not taking the HEADwind into account?
@Middlestepofficial8 жыл бұрын
Wind measurements with Kestrel are better done standing. Prone position is inadequate. Moreover, tailwind doesn't affect the bullet as much as the headwind (it doesn't add up to the muzzle velocity - Newton's law for conservation of momentum). Other is everything superior - nice video. I liked it :) Cheers.
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
+Bruno Dzogovic 1:00:34 I take it standing up. I thought I covered it in the video - maybe not. Yes, the reader doesnt read wind as well when its close to the floor, reaslitic enough right? But standing compromises movement and concealment. A tradeoff I guess

I wonder if I could take what I learn from this game to a real life range and be accurate? Seems like it.
@Serouisly9 жыл бұрын
Yes, a lot of the same knowledge applies. User factors like trigger pull, breathing, heart rate take years of shooting practice in the real world, though. Wind is also much more of a pain. Things like spindrift and coriolis are corrected in the same way- a constant variable applied to hold off or ballistics calculators. The Horus AtragMX, Kestrel 4500 pocket weather and Vector rangefinder are all real life tools. This parallel to realism far exceeds any other video game. This is why TiborasaurusRex loves this game, and also why my next video replicating the longest shot ever taken (Craig Harrison 2009) is accurate due to ACE 3. We can thank Ruthberg for the Advanced Ballistics end.

@seriously So I enabled the advanced ballistics module. Then I found out that when you're shooting at a target if you use the wind direction (clock) then you can figure out whether to use the positive or negative value on the range card (kind of like a number line). So if you have a target that is 1200m out with a 2 m/s wind from the 8 o clock. You can use the range card to find out the elevation, but you do the opposite because the range card says it'll drop negative so much so you do the opposite. But with the wind, I believe if you have a 2 m/s wind coming from the 8 o clock then you'd look at the range card then do the negative value for that wind on the range card because you must shoot into the wind to hit the target. However, if the wind was 2 m/s coming from the 2 o clock then you'd use the positive value on the range card for windage because you must shoot into the wind. I don't know if this is too confusing.
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
It is very confusing. Wind is very important to get right, which is why precise wind direction values should be calculated in your mind (or the Atrag does it for you). For example, a 1200m target with 2m/s wind from 2 o clock to 7 o clock would result in roughly a half value on the range card. This is because the range card values are by default 4m/s. Here is a quote from a Google search to help explain - "In order to interpret and apply wind compensation correctly, you have to determine the angle of the wind; how it flows across the bullet will determine the amount of drift. A tail wind or head wind will have no value; they have essentially no effect on a bullet’s flight. A direct crosswind, which blows from 90 degrees into the path of the bullet, is called a “full” wind because the full effect of the wind is experienced." Except a 45 degree angle would not give a half value but a three quarter value. This is where it gets confusing.

Here is an illustration to help understand drive.google.com/open?id=0B5USBv-e9PjaZ0gwU1V1d2RvdFE Make sure to input values into the ATrag because it will do a lot of this work for you.
@mattl74258 жыл бұрын
@seriously, yeah I understand. I had a very bad explanation. But could you explain to me how I would shoot a target from 1200m away if I had just a kestrel and range card? Because I don't know how I would calculate for humidity and barometric pressure and temperature and such.
@mattl74258 жыл бұрын
@seriously could I add you on steam? I also love long range shooting, I just need some help. My steam name is Pyroplastics.
@mattl74258 жыл бұрын
also how do you calculate if you have strong crosswind and headwind. Do you put the calculation in for crosswind and then add that with the strong headwind calculation? So if you have a headwind of 4.6 m/s and a crosswind of 4.9 m/s would you put those both in (one at a time) then add them together to get the windage adjustment?
@rusfeedernoob54417 жыл бұрын
Awesome tutorial and cool music and photos in between! I've got a question though: Could you explain how to input the crosswind? Unfortunately yes, all scopes are adjusted in Milliradians not minutes of angle. This is the way it's built in for ACE. Currently you can't adjust it by MOA, which you could in ACE2. +Felix Lengkong I think on Github here github.com/acemod/ACE3/issues/429 or ace3public.slack.com/messages/public/ But I thought you were already on the Slack chatroom? You messaged wadiwatir and got identical information from my other video? How did he tell you that stuff on the longest shot?

I've tried the Sandbox. It's extremely awesome. I can shoot any round I want with that Sandbox. I wonder why Ruthberg never publish it :(

Great video however, I am still a bit confused when it comes to all of the wind settings? Which wind readings do I have to input into the atragmx to ensure an accurate shot?

I oh so love how you never told anyone how the hell to put down a target or go into detail on how to get these things to work such as bullet trail tracer or any of that.

I've been searching and googling for how to determine your latitude, but to no avail. In this tutorial vid, which is the absolute best so far for ace3 sniping and I commend you, you indicated that your latitude was 40. However, how did you determine that? How do you determine your latitude on any arma map? When you looked at your map, I didn't see that number anywhere.
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
The island of Altis is based off the real world island of Lymnos, Greece, and so are the actual latitudes. So I simply googled the latitude for that island.

?quick question i noticed you altered your MV based on temperature, wouldnt the AtragMX calculation consider that based on Temp entered in Atmosphere?
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
+עמרי בן-טל Yes, in the atmosphere tab you input the temperature and it corrects the MV for you.

Can I use sniper rifles with ACE enabled on missions without the advanced ballistics module, with the same approach you showed in here just fine, except omitting the wind of course? Or will they work completely different?
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
Without the advanced ballistics module, you will shoot default ACE ballistics - "Changes include adjusted muzzle velocity, air friction and dispersion based on real life values." from the website. ace3mod.com/wiki/feature/ All your tools will still work.

Seriously Thanks for clarification, and for your reply to my other question aswell. I wanted to know for non-ACE scenarios that I play with friends and don't want to edit them every time due to their frequent updates.

Is that an available mission you are playing on? Where you have those static targets with hit indicator, and the score and stats in the upper right?

Hey great vid but just wondering where to find the latitude for each map? As I've noticed it effects the calculation for long shots. Thanks.
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
+Vella Gaming Google search it. Altis and Stratis are based off real places, so are their latitudes. The latitude plays a part in the Coriolis effect over extreme distance. Altis and Stratis are roughly 40

Cheers. How can I truly zero the gun, like you did at the beginning? I can't seem to find the option within the Ace menu. I follow your steps, and the shot always misses.

Does ACE do slight random variations in muzzle velocity? IRL even match grade rifle ammo is +/- about 25 fps per shot.

old comment but yes ACE does do that

very nice video!!! but i cant get that bullet path trace to work. as i can see in the video, u have an special mouse scroll command for this. how to do that, to turn it manually on or off? and which scope is needed to see the effect? i have the same LRPS ingame as you. The actual ACE3.5 mod installed. everything else seems to work. by the way i´ve found the Advanced Ballistics by Ruthberg. Do i need to install them also to get this effect to work? could this colored effect be disabled in current ACE Version? thanks, cheers xD

+ironblader Hi, it's a separate mod called the 360 degree training course, 1:14 in the video, I link the 360 degree course, its a singleplayer mission file

+Seriously Hey, thanks for your fast response. i think i havent recognised the first 2mins of your video .. my bad... but, most of your links here are dead, cutten off on the right side, also in ur 2475m vid....i just found the mission u mentioned, and later im gonna test it. now i have to sleep. just hitted 500 arma 3 hrs ;-) cheers xD

+ironblader Fixed as many links as I could, I didn't know they were dead. Life has caught me busy, advanced ballistics is still a passion of mine though.

Just getting back into Arma and a little confused by some of the tutorials. Might just be confusion over terminology. Ame I right or wrong in my understanding that you might need to confirm zero and true the ballistic calculators?
@handelhumphrey85964 жыл бұрын
Kerry Adams the ballistics calculators should be true but you should confirm zero yes. this is the ACE mod expansion which is incredibly detailed.

Hello Mr. Seriously,I'm Cpl R. Getler. I play in the 7MEU Realism unit in ARMA 3. Your sniping tutorial is amazing and really helpful. I'm trying to make a sniper team in the 7MEU. I just need help. I'm trying to use the: "Red Hammer Studios, M2010 ESR" as our rifle but it has some issues. I've put in all of the gun data in the ATRAG MX, but every one of my shots are low. I'm thinking it's that somethings wrong with the m2010 files because some people have the same issue. I would be very grateful if you helped.

Thanks you for this tuto :) But I have a problem with the Range Card ... I have only one column in "Bullet drop" section. Anyone has had this problem?
@Serouisly9 жыл бұрын
Nicolas That's a key indicator that your Advanced Ballistics is not enabled (the key part of the ACE 3 mod). You need to create a module in the editor. Please reference my other comments.

The only thing I can't figure out is the weapon zeroing. I do not have this option. I understand I must first change the zero in order to see the dialog but no luck. Did they take this out on an update?
@liamkiernan51308 жыл бұрын
With the Zero adjustment, does the mod change that from the games default setting depending on environmental data? e.g Altitude, Baro, Temp? If so you would need to re-zero for each map you play on due to large variations in environmental data.
@mattl74258 жыл бұрын
ok, seriously I understand it all in the video. I just need to know if the atrag calculates like spin drift and all that. I just don't understand how do you calculate for that if you don't know how?
@Serouisly8 жыл бұрын
Yes spin drift is automatically applied with the information from the round inputted. It has to do with the ballistics coefficient and the velocity of the round (muzzle velocity). It is a pretty stable variable to apply. I will try to do a video on these topics my friend, they are very advanced shooter topics (manually doing corrections with no calculator!!)
@chaindrivesumner94708 жыл бұрын
spin drift is simply a cause from the rotation of the projectile which is why rifle with right rifling twist drifts to the right and left drifts to the left . the tighter the rifling in the barrel the more spin it will have. the projectile's diameter also effects the the amount it drifts. when you add wind to this it and your rifling twists to the right and the wind comes from right to left it can actually stabilize the round longer and add lift to the round which can help increase your effective range. the opposite wind direction with the same right handed twist you will get the opposite effect. The velocity doesn't effect the spin drift until you start getting the lift or drop effects from wind. honestly i'm impressed by your knowledge you have so early, even the Marine Corps marksmanship trainers(0932) don't get taught this information. Never stop learning!

What keys are you pressing when you do everything. For example when i use the vector range finder i dont know what key finds the distance. Also i don't know how to access the tools. Like the kestrol. I know the windows key stuff
