PLEASE give us a whole SERIES even on which plants work best in which environments and also how to select the appropriate hardscape materials! I know there's certain trees and rocks that shouldn't be submerged but it's hard to find out with Google unless you know what to google and the internet seems opposed to giving a truly comprehensive list for anything. I think comprehensive videos on what plants and materials would be great for whenever you're in a project rut or it's just want to make something different and they would help those of us who want to start but still are too worried about what we don't know (to be fair that could just be me). Anyways love you Tanner! Hope you and all your critters are doing well!

I would love to learn more about how to choose waterline plants, I have seen such interesting behaviour with my fish when they have a "shore line" so to speak, or an overhang. Would love to be able to break it up with more plants but it's hard to find information online, a video on your decades of experience would be invaluable 😍🤣
@BioTechproject273 жыл бұрын
Technically you can use almost all aquarium plants, since they are almost all swamp type plants (some eclusions apply, like blyxia japonica, which only has a submersed form). So most can grow under and above water, thus they can break that line. (for example use mosses lile weeping moss, or taxiphyllum types, or plants like hydrocotyle tripartita/hydrocotyle sp. japan/hydrocotyle verticillata or utricularia gramminifolia [a carnivore, but harmless and doesn't grow traps with the normal amount of nutrients; also has beautiful flowers when emersed] as vine-type plants that grow downwards into the water, or basically every stem plant to grow out of water, or things like cryptocoryne, anubias, microsorum or echinodorus species)

Fish jumping is a natural occurrence when they are interacting with each other so consider putting on a lid with little holes in it to keep them from getting out. It doesn’t always look good but it will save their life so good trade off.

Yes, it’s also good to have floaters and a lower water level

Lids are a MUST..you have to think about safety over esthetic. A beautiful tank is amazing but you MUST think about the "what if" scenarios that can come up. Fish jump...sometimes even if they feel completely comfortable in the set up..that's why lids are needed.

Great video. I'm not sure how detailed you've gotten into it in the past, but maybe you should do a mini-series about the technical aspect of typical tank you've made. Ranging from simple to the most ambitious. What I mean by that is explaining each "layer" of filtration, nutrient creation, PH balancing, and so forth with regards to each part of the tank. The filters, the moss, the plants, the sub-strait, etc., and how it all works together so we have a better understand as to the WHY you do certain things and not others.

it is true about each betta being completely different personality wise i had two not too long ago - separate tanks of course - and one of them was very nippy with his tank mates and would chase them around if they annoyed him too much, while the other was super friendly and downright inquistive. If he saw you coming near the tank, he would spend most of the time at the glass watching you, watching everything you did

Is the water oxygenated enough as to where the betta won't need to use its labyrinth organ? I'm wondering if the atomizer could negatively affect the betta breathing from the surface. The atomizer effect looks aaawesome, otherwise.
@DeRueben3 жыл бұрын
I thought the same things. I worked at a pet store, and we always informed customers that betta tanks need a lid to keep the airtemperature and humidity above the tank relatively stable, because they could get sick otherwise. I would think the atomizer negatively affects the betta's breathing. :/

I had my avocado plant growing from a seed out of my tank and that's the fastest I've ever seen it grow. It shot up to three feet in length in just four months with lots of leaves (which is insane for an avocado tree). It's still growing now that's its in soil but not as fast. I highly recommend growing some plants using your aquariums. It keeps your water clean and it helps your plants grow from all the nutrients.
