I love how the snakes are kept in bioactive enclosures rather than the usual plastic drawers that some snake owners have.
@cocolocobirb9812 жыл бұрын
The plastic drawers are for breeding, most people don’t keep their actual pet snakes in a bin. but even if they do, if they are a good keeper, they will provide enrichment for them.

I love how compared to some of your other projects this is a great beginners project. No expensive tools, no cutting class, no massive time delays from having to attach like 20 different things with silicone for structural support, no major modifications to the enclosure, and a relatively small amount of components especially considering how dense it looks. This is an affordable, easy to replicate, and beautiful set up. One of your top 5, granted nothing can top the 600 unless you make like say a 1,200 gallon aquarium and go find a Picture of underwater in a river and replicate it as much as possible even down to plant and hardscape placement. Which you should totally do. If anyone can do it it's you.

I watch a lot of diorama and tabletop game crafting videos, and it's kind of surprising just how much the two hobbies overlap in the materials and skills used. Just one year ago I never in a million years would have guessed that insulation foam of all things could be such a versatile artistic medium. I love reptiles, but I also just love how you can take such mundane hardware store materials and turn them into such high-grade animal enclosures.

@arriitv17162 жыл бұрын
In theory yes, however, mammals produce a hell of a lot more waste than reptiles, and as such would need a much much larger enclosure to be fully bioactive to allow for the nutrients/chemicals in the substrate to balance themselves out over longer periods of time. Its completely possible, however many believe it's less than practical.
@chemistrykrang80652 жыл бұрын
I'm sure I've seen that sort of thing described for gerbils - they don't produce much urine in comparison to other rodents so that might be a factor.
@themute93542 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can have a very natural and nice bioactive setup for them. But you’d have to clean up their poop and everything like that, it can’t be 100% dependant on the bioactive system because of the animals large bioload. They love natural enclosures!

~~Drylok's good stuff&a tip,if I may? Get yourself a roller w/3/4" nap,it'll get majority of the piece&cut time by more than half. Since you like using more than one color I suggest simply cutting a 9" into thirds&when you're done? Load it up good&wrap/store it in plastic bag which you can use to take it off the frame also. Make sure any print's on the outside before wrapping in a 2nd bag&seal w/masking tape labeling Drylok Black, Gray etc. Then throw it in the bottom of refrigerator. Do same w/kitchen, living room etc. too. They 'll keep up to a year unused&longer used periodically.
