I recently installed a new power steering pump, tensioner and belt on a 2003 Escape. Had to put jack under engine and remove motor mount and radiator overflow to get pump out. Tensioner has a single recessed bolt you can't get a ratchet on due to car frame, took me some time to get out and in. Belt, couldn't get the old one out or new one in from top. Had to remove wheel and well cover then the belt was a piece of cake. Next is the AC compressor which is 4 bolts and a wired plug, simple, easy job.

Glad the vid helped you get the belt on, Random. It's not bad...taking the splash guard off, and putting it back on, is where most of the time is spent. Thanks for watching!

been following you and your work on these 1st gen escape's/tribute's as I have a 2001 myself! planning on doing my cooling system and belts as I have just reached 300,000kms (186k miles)! keep up the good work!

Hope they help...these Escapes seem to last a long time, if taken care of. I'm doing an additional vid on the cooling system. It seems that sometimes the radiator doesn't get the water it needs when refilling from the overflow bottle, especially if the system is COMPLETELY drained...even the block. It helps to backfill the radiator. For that, you will disconnect the top radiator hose from the thermostat housing...hold it up...put a funnel in the hose and pour coolant mix down the hose until it can't hold anymore...then reconnect the hose into the thermostat housing. It's a little messy, but it ensures that the radiator is full, and helps prime the pump when the entire system has been drained. Thanks for watching, Alec!

Para cambiar el tensor, debo quitar el tornillo qué trae al medio y nada más? O trae otra tuerca más?

Very clear videos,thank you. I just recently purchased a 2003 v6 escape. Looking at videos on maintenance,what is your view of the " one critical failure of the outer cam bolt cap coming loose and causing the top end failure? Do you consider replacing or just re torque these bolts? Many thanks
@moonview20072 жыл бұрын
Great video. I'm wondering why you didn't replace the tensioner while you were there? I see it as cheap insurance.
@GreaseMonkeyFever2 жыл бұрын
You can, and probably should, but the main focus was getting the belt and off. The Escape I drive daily doesn't have a tensioner...it uses a stretch belt. Thanks for watching, Jay!
@masterp22692 жыл бұрын
How come the tensioner on my 05 and 08 are the same, but never like the ones in allllll the videos?
