Top of the line and great detailed video. Just a note for those wanting a short cut with the partial water pump replacement like this, I didn't drain my radiator or remove any cooling hoses. I just loosened the water pump, let it drain into a big pan, expect 1 gallon or so, then removed the pump. It easily fits by all the hoses and you know exactly how much to replace if your remaining fluid is good. A bit tighter to maneuver around but honestly very doable faster and fewer tools.

The water pump on a Taurus 01 DOHC is identical and I recently replaced it. I did so by removing the battery ,battery tray and belt tensioner pulley ,as well as the splash guard underneath the motor. I did not disconnect any hoses or remove the water pump housing. I just removed all of the bolts from the top and side access. I did this when it was 35 degrees out was not able to scrape off the old gasket but I did use permatex gasket maker , water glycol resistant. I slid the old water pump out from underneath and slid the new one in from underneath as well . Reinstalled all the bolts and pulley tensioner and there have been no leaks. It turned out well.

The short twisted hose that connects right there to a vertical connection in the "valley". I'll call it a coolant transfer hose. It has "exploded" three times in the past 3 years. It is the most difficult hose ever to replace. I replaced the thermostat and refilled distilled water and no water would flow into the radiator from the bottom of reservoir while engine not running, only if filled all the way through top hose. I waited and waited and nothing. Started the car, turned on the heat, likely 30 minutes, no coolant opened up and flowed through the engine. Turned off the heat, coolant in reservoir started boiling, overflowed, turned the heat back on and finally I saw the thermostat open because coolant sucked out of overflow. Poured some more water into reservoir and coolant opened up one more time after a good boil and steam from the reservoir. My thinking was maybe thermostat was bad but I'm afraid I don't think that is it and that short, twisted, transfer hose will no doubt "explode" again within a year. Do you think it could be the water pump causing extreme pressure in this one coolant hose? I've asked now 2 mechanics why this hose keeps exploding and they don't give me an answer. Thanks in advance.

If I end up scraping the mating surface… can I use the gasket sealer on both sides to fix that?
@GreaseMonkeyFever Жыл бұрын
I've done it in the past with no problems. But, you have to be careful not to put too much on, and let the sealer skin over, so there is no oozing inside the pump or housing. This can cause blockage and cooling problems down the road. Thanks for watching, Corey!

I have a 2005 Ford Escape AWD v6 3.0L, it doesn't have a pulley/tensioner. I'm having a really hard time installing the pump because the belt is working against me. I cannot get the three long fasteners into their dedicated holes. Am I missing something?
@GreaseMonkeyFever6 жыл бұрын
You've got what they call a strectchy belt. I have been meaning to do a video on that as well. Later models have these without a mechanical tensioner. There are videos on how to replace those. The best thing to do is cut it off, and put a new one on...think about it. It was stretched to get it on, stretched to get it off, and then it will be stretched again to get it back on. That would lose some tension. Best to cut off the old and replace with a new one. Zip ties are used to get the new one on. This vid may help kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnuTqmpnqcSjmMk Thanks for watching!

Remember before you torque those bolts make sure they are absolutely spotless and clean or else 89 inch pounds will not be 89 inch pounds. Never ever put those bolts back the way this guy did dirty and everything. Every video you watch on KZbin has got some real defective processes going on with these guys

I've done this and still gets hot, one hose hotter than the other one as if water was barely moving... Removed thermostat , checked radiator for obstruction and everything seems fine. My escape has the other water pump with different blades, what could be wrong???
@GreaseMonkeyFever3 жыл бұрын
Yes, had the same thing happen with my personal Escape. There is a HUGE air pocket in the system. Try a "back fill". Disconnect the top radiator hose where it goes into the fitting above the thermostat. Hold the hose straight upward and pour antifreeze down it, causing it to flow into the radiator. Fill until antifreeze just starts spilling out. Reconnect the hose, and let the engine run. Any additional antifreeze should be filled at the expansion tank. Hope this helps!
