As long as they add an Illya version (aka the truest and most completed version of the Dress), I couldn't care less if Irisviel isn't frontline material. She fought her war already and suffered greatly. This revival of sorts is amends for it (as I see it). So she can finally rest with her family and live in relative happiness.

The problems with Irisviel are way too numerous to count. She doesn't amplify damage, she sure as hell doesn't DEAL damage, her heals are all tied to skills with really long cooldowns, her NP only heals once and not for a high enough amount, and while party wide guts is good Scheherazade offers the same thing while also having utility beyond that. Moreover while buff purges are a problem for everyone, Irisviel getting her buffs stripped is a one way ticket to Ahegao City because she's royally screwed. There's no efficient way to improve her since EVERY PART OF HER KIT (except maybe Child of Nature) needs to be buffed for her to be anything approaching broadly useful. Great mom, though, so 10/10.

I'd argue even Child of Nature needs a buff, along with the rest of her kit, for her to stand as at least decent alongside most of the other welfares we've gotten. Up its NP gain max to 50%, or extend its range to party-wide at its current 30% max for some extra support options, and maybe even upgrade its Invul to be a 3 times Invul instead of just 1T.

@@proposterous2808 Tack a battery (30% or 50%, depending on how big of a buff you want) onto her S1 or S2, up her S2 NP gain buff to max at 50% or extend its range to be party wide at its current 30% max, and maybe consider lowering her S1 CD by 1/2T and/or changing her Invul from 1T to 3 times.

You didn't mention how for the King Hassan Challenge quest during last years Nero Fest on NA basically required using her for her np. The fight didn't work how we thought it would from JP and so the BB strat was useless. He would target any of the servants on the front line and not just the servant in front. The only way to avoid dying from KH's NP was to make sure all front line team members had guts when he was about to np. At the time, the only servant who could pull that off was Iri. Not at all relevant for future content, but a fun anecdote nonetheless.

It was because of her that I even beat that CQ. Major stalling with Waver and Merlin had to happen until KH ate up enough assassins. I put in at least 60 turns by the time I finished.

@@GeorgeMonet No, she was already mediocre on release because a white mage isn't that useful in this game, nor is she spammable for the guts spam strats without significant effort. Team wide guts is basically giving up hope that you either deal damage to kill the threat, or negate the damage completely in the first place. It's inherently risky and it's a strat to lose less, not win more. I suspect people who started the game this year would find the safety net reassuring, but even then, things like Hans would be a better investment for a healer or just using typical last stand units like Heracles with bond CE for the final slot would be faster and more expedient. If the last Nerofest was this year, then she would have a last hurrah for being the ultimate outlasting unit, but that's not the case.

Worst part was for me at the time of the original run, Iri was my only Gold Caster as all 4 and 5* Casters hated my guts for some bizarre reason. That is until Da Vinci on the 1st Anniversary up and surprised me on a single and she was my go to DPS Caster for a long time.

It’s true and I can see both sides because power creep breaks the game but how does a game keep everything balanced while adding new characters, there are only so many unique abilities you can add until they becomes a gimmick or too specific to be useful anywhere else. I will say caster artoria is a dumb meme because arts cards and most arts servants are already good so there is no need when most quick servants bad without skadi or some quick meme team. I tend to ignore the balance side of FGO because anything can be a problem depends on how you look at it.

Even the best balance team is going to have things slip through the cracks because of unforeseen interactions or because something turned out more powerful than expected. However, even a minimally competent balance team would have immediately seen that CasSaber was ludicrously over the curve and blow any power budget out of the water. Yes, anything can be a problem but that doesn't mean that nothing matters and can be ignored. Consider how after Skadi, the first question asked whenever a Quick servant released was "can they loop?". With Skadi disappearing from friends lists and Quick teams being weak without two of her, whenever a Buster or Quick servant is released, unless someone really really likes that character, the question of how viable they are is going to creep in. And of course, it never feels good if someone feels like their favorite character is being neglected. Games that have new content added frequently really should have a massive overhaul to rebalance and normalize things done periodically. In competitive games it's often done between "seasons". It's kind of idiotic that pierce invulnerability is strictly better than sure hit, and it's even more idiotic that 'super invulnerability' exists at all. A perfect time to do the big overhaul would be after the Lostbelt story arc is over (and more cynically, if rebalances are done periodically there'd be an incentive to roll on a diverse roster rather than just going for the clearly OP picks, especially if what's OP might change every rebalance).

I found Irisviel to be particularly invaluable during that March of the Hassans in that one Nerofest. Ran Da Vinci and a maxed support Medea Lily. Da Vinci nuked everything, tanked debuffs with her immunity, and occasionally died due to instant death effects. Iri made sure Da Vinci had a spare guts at any given moment, and Medea Lily kept anyone else from dying. I managed a no casualty run even at the final Hassan that kills the entire frontline.

Most of the servants introduced from Zero have been pretty much ignored. Outside of skadi support for Zerkalot (who isn't even the top of the quick food chain) and Waver having a 2nd event in casefiles, the rest are just lackluster with no meaningful upgrades ever if at all.

Remember Irisviel is a welfare where the other servants Fino mentioned are from the Gacha where they fall in the category of being limited with very few banners or story lock and you know how low the rates are in FGO. Unless you are a whale or have good luck and also if you think getting Asclepius is easy then getting the 3 star might be a bit hard than you think.

The fun part about this game is that there is literally no wrong way to play. To me, she seems like someone for stall teams, challenge quests, and the upcoming Lostbelts (I feel like LB3 is gonna kick my ass). I plan to upgrade her and use her, cause as of right now my only healer is Martha. But then again, my play style is offense is the best defense. It honesty depends on the player.

Poor Iri. I've never used her once since Hans and Merlin covered any healing needed. Honestly healing is pretty much secondary in FGO. All the best supports do a ton of other things and then heal on top of it all. The ideology in FGO of kill it in 3 turns or find a way to cheese it renders healers and the couple tanks useless in 99% of cases. And the arms race of each new support being even more degenerate leaves me Tamamortifed.

A white mage in case you needed one and Medea Lily isn't available. Not bad for stall but not optimal, there are better sustained healers and Merlin is just broken all together. NP is nice for some challenges but that's her only real niche besides burst heals and an invulnerability built in. Stall just isn't that viable most of the time and it's always better to stun or reduce damage rather than pick up the pieces with healing or a guts that's off most of the time (if it could stack on other guts then we might have a case to bring Herc in.)

Castoria may have her special invul however DW without really telling you already has servants specifically prepared to remove or by pass that buff which so far people found Chiron, amakusa, and the 2 Abigail williams. So don't get cocky with Castoria as there will be case her special invul won't work or save you

Castoria's anti invulnerability pierce isn't dumb. Giving a boss which has an AoE NP that OHKO that pierces invulnerability is what is dumb and bad game design because for most team comps there is no way around this. The number of bosses with invul pierce is way way way too high and the number of servants that can deal with this that a player would want to use is basically zero. So outside of Castoria there is no acceptable way of dealing with this bad game design.
