Oh man, this is the Christmas gift I've been waiting for!! 👏🕺 Speaking of records, what about being #1 in singles and doubles at the same time? Who else has done that?😎 Thanks Andy!👍
@rajusaha855Ай бұрын
Yeah in men's tennis in open era only Edberg was being #1 in both categories but not at the same time. Although in WTA more women had done that most noticebly Navratilova (longer #1 in both categories than Mcenroe).

I didn't have a good opinion of Johnny Mac before today, I thought he was a bit bombastic at times. I stand totally corrected. wow. What a great guy. He is so funny but also there was so much humility in his words and he made so much sense. He was so real and vulnerable about his own life and mistakes etc. I like that he also didn't try to weigh in on topics that he wasn't really fully up to date with, like the doping situation. Very impressed.

Hey Andy, speaking of Mac going from a legendary playing career straight into being a legendary commentator I was hoping you’d do the same and was disappointed when you didn’t. But this podcast is the next best thing. Or maybe better. So well done and keep it up. 👍

Wow!! I’ve been following Served for about 9 months. I even went back and listened to all episodes that were recorded prior to my initiation. What can I say I absolutely love it. Andy’s wit and pinpoint observations are the best in the game!!! Jon Werteim is always a plus!!! However adding Johnny Mac to this already wonderful stew is such a privilege to watch. Who can deny Johnny Mac as a player? Only an idiot could, so I don’t. However his career as a tv commentator and more than that such an incredible lobbyist for Tennis across the board puts him in a single top of the totem pole position ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Novak adding Murray to his team is an unexpected but excellent move. For his opponents, it will feel like having to play both. They are friends, have lots of respect for each other, and will pool their tennis IQ and grit. Murray will be able to continue to compete through Novak and Novak will squeeze a little more out of himself because of Murray. It won't be a long partnership, as i expect Novak to play possibly his last season, but it is a great transition for both.

Mac said he threw two of his 1984 losses. That is, in fact, true. The thing is though, one was a live Davis Cup match; and, we ended up losing the tie. He should get a lot more grief for that, or at least Some grief. No one ever says a word about it.

Sadly some of those records is not gonna be broken because now we have only one YEC. From 1970-89 there were two YEC - Masters grand prix (now ATP finals) & WCT finals in Dallas. Similarly from 1990-99 there were also two YEC - ATP finals & ITF grand slam cup in Munich. BTW Becker is the only one to win all 3 titles. And carpet court was also abandoned in mid 2000's. So all those records are pretty safe.

There were actually some really great matches in Davis Cup this year Johnny. The USA vs Australia tie was brilliant and Fritz played well. The fact that the whole thing was yet again in the same place with the same fans screaming for the same winners was the problem. Unfortunately Italy will now win for the next ten years, both women and men, because it's being held in Italy. Davis Cup is a tragedy with a footballer in charge - but you can still enjoy playing each other and ignore the audience.

Great interview with John. Andy, who knows, you may be the next John McEnroe as a tennis announcer, if you keep this up. Btw, it was FDR, not Teddy Roosevelt, who said try new things, and if it doesn't work out, admit it and move on, but at least try. Something to that effect.
@italnsd19 күн бұрын
McEnroe does not know how to give a focused answer to a question but goes on and on rambling. He’s never been a humble guy and is definitely enamored of the sound of his own voice. The best I’ve seen in dealing with him in a talking context is Lendl. There are a couple of videos on KZbin in which Lendl’s cutting sarcasm is used gloriously to contrast Mac’s logorrhea

Tennis is one of the few sports that does not honor its legends as well as it should. In contrast, golf celebrates its greats with dedicated tournaments and long-standing tributes. There’s a lot tennis could learn from golf in recognizing and respecting its former champions.
