Something that I tell all dog owners is that you don't pick what is high value, the dog does. I like to get several treat options and play a treat game with them. I usually use their kibble and about 4 different treats at a time. How I play this game: I get a plastic cup for each type of food, and put a sniff hole in the bottom of it. I use the same cup for only that food so as to not have it smelling like the other treats. I put a piece of food on the floor, and cover it with the designated cup, bottom end up. I usually do 2 different treats at a time, and let the dog sniff them, and whichever treat the dog is most interested in gets a mark in a notebook. I use those same combos about 5 times, changing up the order they are placed, so I can tell it isn't just the cups position. I eventually narrow it down. For example: one of my dog's preferences was: BilJacs > Zuke's Salmon > Zuke's Beef > Kibble > Zuke's Peanut Butter and Oat, while my other dog's preference was: BilJacs > Zuke's Beef > Kibble > Zuke's Salmon > Zuke's Peanut Butter and Oat. It does take time and organization to go through it, but I love doing this from time to time. The results also change sometimes because they seem to get tired of some. I hope that made sense.
