Service Dog Public Access Expectations

Here is a short video from my TikTok of how a service dog should behave in a public environment.
Remember that service dogs are not perfect and every handler has different expectations for their dog. These are just the general expectations that all services dogs should be able to meet.

Again, this is how a true service dog should act and react, unlike so many fake ESA "lap yappers." Thank you for these videos, and please please please continue educating the general populace! Eventually people will understand, and we will stop allowing fake service animals, which are a distraction and a danger to real service animals and their people.

I have three Doodles.. each have training on so common and different tasks for service dogs ..people think they are emotional support .. NO they are medical alert and their raining was done for that purpose .. they all have their specialty and can do the basics of what needs to be don for me

I have a question how do you approach your doctor about getting a service dog I know you don’t need a doctors note but you take it places like school you do I’m diagnosed with autism and ADHD and OCDAnd I have a lot of anxiety and talking to a doctor is very scary to me because I have social anxiety as well and I feel like she would just send me out and tell me I don’t need one but that is definitely not like my doctor

So technically if u go to a public school they cannot require a doctors not. If they try to tell u that is their policy then their policy violations the law. But if u go to a private school then they can request one. Sometimes it’s just easier to give the doctors note though if u can get one rather than trying to argue or taking the matter to court. So I would just talk to your doctor and tell that you are looking into getting or training a service dog to help with your ADHD and OCD. I’d go into detail about what the dog will be trained to do to assist u and how those tasks will help u in your daily life. I’d then tell them that it’s not required but ask them if they would consider giving you a doctors note that way u have it if your school or other people try request a doctors note.

Technically no. However if a small child is getting a service dog and is not old enough to care for the dog or command the dog properly then a guardian will be the handler of the dog but the dog will still work for the disabled kid. The same goes for someone with a disability that would completely limit their ability to care/ command the dog

Is it a goldendoodle as we're looking into getting one do you think it's a good breed

I think that goldendoodles are great for service work. Many people are against doodles and other mixed breeds as well, just bc they think that all working dogs should be pure breeds. Doodles have great temperaments. They are calm and friendly. They do tend to have a lower work drive but u will find that some dogs in every breed may struggle with that. I’d recommend a goldendoodle bc I have seen so many successful doodles as service dogs. Dallas didn’t come without struggles but she’s so great. With proper training and guidance you will have the best chance and having a successful service dog

Do you mean the boots? I use the boots when the ground is hot so she doesn’t burn her feet. I also use it when it’s gross and rainy to keep her feet dry and not get as dirty. It’s also good to have them in winter when the dog will be walking on the salt that is meant to melt snow. The salt can chemically burn their feet as well as cut their feet.
