I worked at 4 different stores during my 6 years with SMC while I was in college during the late 80’s & early 90’s. I’m from Nashville, TN, the company’s headquarters, but haven’t lived there for 20+ years now. During that time I helped remodel the original store on lower Broadway in downtown Nashville. Back then it was surrounded by peep shows & sleazy bars. Now it’s all cleaned up as a big tourist area. I also worked at store #2 in the northern suburbs of Nashville that was south of Rivergate Mall. I helped close that store & open its replacement on the north side of the mall. Also worked for a few months a store in FL. Oh the stories I could tell.

I remember the Service Merchandise catalog they were really great and weekly mail flyers showed sales. Sears still had a catalog but decided to charge 5 dollars for them and customers balked at that, even though there was a 5 dollar coupon for your first purchase inside the catalog. Sears made a lot of mistakes, failed to know or remember who there customers were.

LOL, thanks for these memories!! And yep we also would get the Sears and JC Penny Christmas Catalogs every too, and would always be looking at these books!! Ours were also under the coffee table as well.. This was the internet or the web equivalent for us back then!!

Awesome. What a cool blast from the past. Heck if the stores had all that cool stuff now then shopping would be fun again. Shopping is so boring anymore.

On the top right corner of the GI Joe page, I had gotten the Lone Ranger and horse toy. Now I know where my parents may have gotten the idea to get it for me.

No, don't even have this catalog anymore. Sold it the day after I filmed this video.

Hi. I am praying that you get this. I lost a ring my grandmother bought for me at Service Merchandise in 1982. I think I saw it on your video of the catalog. If there is a way that I could send you a picture of the ri g, could you scan the page of the ri gs and send it to me? I am trying to have it recreated. Thanks.
