Mine was doing it after sitting in the parking lot at work in the heat. Never did it when driving in the morning. I’m guessing the interior would heat up and things inside the switch would expand and cause the warning to set off.

I have a 2016 2500HD I was getting check trailer wire with dads trailer, and then finally it started to say service trailer brake system. I changed the brake controller and the brake control module. It now says trailer connected and brakes are working, but I hooked up to my buddies trailer and it said service trailer brake system. ( I think his is wired wrong ) his other buddy had problems with it. My issue should be fixed

Someone told me it needed to be taken to a dealer to program the module... is that true?
@jazzlejohnson5364 Жыл бұрын
I can't say for certain if that's completely true or not. I did not need to taker mine in when I swapped the module the first time.
@wizpopr2 жыл бұрын
I have a 2019 that gives me intermittent "Check Trailer Wiring" messages. It comes and goes. Nothing wrong with the wiring. It has all been tested. The controller is throwing a code, but the dealership can't reproduce the problem, so they won't fix it. Unfortunately, I can replace the module, but have to find someone to program the computer to see it. Aggravating as hell.

you think they would have had a recall on that. i have to do the same thing. what they charge ya for that part?
@jazzlejohnson53643 жыл бұрын
No recalls from what I can find. I’ve come across folks getting this message with fairly low miles too. Mine happened around 135K mile. One comment though said his 2021 was doing it. The module cost me $34. The dash switch which is what ended up fixing it, was $44. Both from Amazon.
@whitetailwarriorsdeercamp883 жыл бұрын

I have to make this same repair tomorrow on my Dad's 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. What was the secret to not breaking the red tab? Do we have to worry about any funny codes being sent the trucks computer once we disconnect the brake module? Thank You
@jazzlejohnson53643 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure why I saw so many people say they broke the red tab. I used a small flat blade screwdriver to push the locking tab back. It didn’t take much to get it to slide back and unlock. I didn’t have any codes pop up. The module didn’t actually fix my problem though. I posted a follow up video last weekend where I replaced the switch in the dash. That seems to have fixed my problem. Hopefully the module will fix your dad’s issue. If not, I’d swap the switch.
