Servicing a futureshock 1.0

So my futureshock 1.0 on my Specialized Diverge seized up. I figured if I was going to have to replace it anyway I might as well try fix it and plus I was interested to see how it worked.
My FS was so messed up from rust and mid in the “sealed cartridge” that despite getting it apart and putting it back together again, I wasn’t able to really reuse it.
I rode yeh bike with the “repaired” FS a few times but ultimately replaced with a replacement FS from performancebike.com

Man getting all needle bearings in the tube with the shim plates was tricky! Ended up managing it by assembling everything in the outer tube, needle bearings, shims and cage then sliding the tapered inner tube in. Butit wasnt easy!

Thanks for this, helped a bit, but needed an engineer friend to help me. Turns out one of the shims had a split, hardly visible. Also the shims were slightly different thicknesses, so not sure how this affects fitting them back in. Now working well. It was awkward trying to get the assembly pushed in, would have like to have seen this bit, but thanks anyway.

I have just done this with my FS 1. Was very fiddly but I managed it and now it's very smooth. Mine wasn't loose like yours. It may be because you didn't adjust the preload screws so the bearings were loose. That's the only thing I can think of that would make it loose like that.

Sorry, I can hardly hear what you're saying because of the background music. I think it would be better to re-upload without it. Otherwise it's interesting and useful content for people who are looking to service their Future Shocks themselves. Also, that definitely looks like a Future Shock 1.0, not 1.5.
