@@matthewmassarotti2596 I guess that your comments are as much for the general public as myself. I guess you have seen my video on Ballarat trams video, but if not, the link is below. As for maintenance, I have known Mick since around 1965 and he is a major reason I visit there on Wednesdays. Technical interests me more than simple running and as you saw in the video, I had a sample taste of that anyway. Ballarat Trams from 1965. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mprRgmqLpqulpsU

16:24, my dad, a former vr train driver told me if the lightning struck the wires ahead of the train, he assured me that drivers could see it running along the wires. and you got away from the controls quick smart. bearing in mind the known speed of light, is this true? 16:29, i take it that securing the handles is just in case malcolm has returned from exile in portugal.

@@vsvnrg3263 Maybe a better description would’ve been that you could see the lightning “hanging from the wires”, not that I ever saw it myself as a Melbourne tram driver for some years. As for locking up the handles, would you leave your car keys lying on a table outside your front door? Common sense is that you secure the means of ‘stealing’ a tram.

@@tressteleg1 , i asked you because i was sure you would have heard about the behaviour of lightning and it seems that you had. so dad's story has some creedence. didnt you get the reference to a movie about a tram fanatic?
@tressteleg13 ай бұрын
@@vsvnrg3263 No, I have had no personal experience of lightning hitting overhead train or tram wires, but because of the speed of lightning (the same as speed of light I believe) any visible light I would expect would be visible along the full length of the wire at the same time. Yes I realise you were referring to ‘Malcolm’. Sadly the real life tramwayman who is considered to be the basis for Malcolm left us earlier this year after failing health for a few years.

@@tressteleg1 , i didnt know there was someone the movie could have been based on.

@@vsvnrg3263 It is generally thought that the concept was very very loosely based on Norm Cross who worked at Preston Workshops. You will see him in this video, explaining things.
