Thank you for making this video which was very clear. However it would have been useful to have been told what oils you used, and the type description of the belts. Also most M300s have a suds splashback which blocks access to the belts, so getting past that would be helpful knowledge!

Hi Joe. Congratulations on your new to you lathe. Nothing like getting that first service out of the way to be able to start enjoying the machine. Looks and sounds to be in fair shape. Hope you get lots of use from it. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Take care, Steve.

Nice bit of maintenance Joe, I am not familiar with Harrison lathes, but it seems very solid and looks like it will really step up your machining to another level. Have a nice Christmas and cheers mate!

Hi, you never mentioned what oils / grades you used. Quite a few of the recommended oils for the older M300s are not available now.

Joe just a suggestion next time you change out oil. Gule a magnet to the drain plug to help pull metal out of the oil. this is something our maintenance department did on all machines on the first service.

Great tip that Johnny I didn’t really think about it when I was draining it out but makes complete sense.

What do you use for the leadscrew? Do you have the details of the manufacturer's recommendation on the type of oils to use?

Hi Craig so I got the following oil off of eBay which is the modern day alternative of what is needed for the M300 Westway Lubricants machine oil iso 220 replaced the shell Vitrea 72 and same brand hydraulic oil iso 68 replaced the Castrol aws68. Hope that helps

@@MachiningwithJoe Th\ank you. I have the same lathe which I am restoring. Just wondering how far I have to go taking it apart before painting it. It would be wonderful if you had a video on taking out and reinstalling the gap bed if that’s something you’ve done before.
