The rear crankshaft seal is spiral in design and will weep when the motor is not running. Much later cars used a newer design that can be retrofitted.

Hi. I know they’re an absolute pain. I’ll do the crankcase gasket as you never know but my suspicions are rear seal. It’ll be gearbox out and Introcar do an upgrade which is much more reliable than the original design. Thanks for watching. Regards.

@@classic.obsession Hi Gary, Aston Martin have the same trouble on the inline 6 cylinder Marek engines: DB4-DBS. You have to machine off the crankshaft and fit a modern 2 piece oil seal. Some leak anyway, as they are difficult to set up. On that gearbox pan, why not remove it next job and install a magnetic sump plug? A good fabricator or machinist can weld in a bung for the plug. Also, use a straightedge on the pressed steel sump face to check for true. All Fiat engines that I've come across are bent because of the last chap who removed them with a screwdriver! Thank you for the videos, and good luck! Tom

I like the Classic Obsession style very much, obviously there's a lot of work done in the editing, no irrelevant, meaningless fumbling, just showing the bits that we would need to know and what to watch out for if we were lucky enough to own a classic car, if not, like me, it's just a fascinating few minutes watching someone else who likes doing what they do. I have to say however, it won't be long before your body complains about working on the floor and dictates that a service pit is required, sooner that later and before it's too late and knees, back and hips give up the ghost. It is most enjoyable listening to and watching your KZbin contributions. Certainly great attention to detail. It seems that Rolls Royce makes things unnecessarily complicated with some parts of the design. As you say a sump plug in the transmission would be a good idea. Why didn’t they, who knows.

Your transmission looks really good. A little clutch material in the oil is to be expected. My Cadillac's oil pan looked like yours, about the same amount of grey clutch stuff in the bottom of the pan, Bottom of your valve body looked clean enough to eat off of. On that last leak, I'm hoping for you that it is just the oil pan gasket, and not the rear main crankshaft seal. Those are never fun. It looks to me like RRs are like old Harley-Davidsons. They don't leak, they mark their territory!!

The bloody rear main seal I’d say Gary …. It’s engine oil not gearbox from the look of the drops. Perhaps give the underside a good pressure wash down to get rid of any residual oil…???? However they all eventually weep there and that’s gearbox out to fix that. I put up with a few drops from my 86 Spirit rear main until , like you , I was tired of seeing the drops on my garage floor…. Gosh your Corniche is elegant though , full credit to you, I love watching you work 9n the old girl. 👍🏼

The gearbox was defo leaking but that was due to loose bolts. I did the rocker gasket, the oil filter housing, the breather and that oil level sender….but the worst one of course eluded me!! That dreaded rear corkscrew joke of a seal !! Looks like gearbox out. Regards.

You think you had problems with leaks. I knew a chap who worked on the Supermarine Scimitar, and he was telling me that they leaked fluids like a sieve, he said no matter what you did, replaced pipes or seals there was always a puddle of fluid under them, all they could do was keep them to a minimum with fingers crossed, so you Rolls is doing quite well. I would love a Phantom VI though.

Coming from a commercial RR/B shop, it's good to see that kind of servicing.... But, those cars on jack stands are just plain scary.
