Understanding that we have to learn to service this Volvo Penta D1-30 Diesel Marine Engine ourselves we finally start the engine whilst our sailboat is on the hard stand in a boatyard. Counting down the days to Launch Date we have to change the oil filter, water pump impeller and engine oil.

Please use a syphon hose with a ball or bale plunger to clest hoses, lines and transfer fuel in the future. It will save you from spills and ingestion of the fluid...

Water was dripping after the installation, not sure the gasket area or the hose clamp. Do keep a whole bunch of heavy duty clamps and steel n plastic wire ties. Definitely will come in handy.

Well spotted! Yes water was coming out of the water pump so we had to remove the old water pump sent for service and installed the new one instead. New water pump n new impeller will keep the serviced water pump as a back up. We didn't shoot the engine after. Recently removed heat exchanger to service that as a maintenance and now back in. Soon we will have to service the fuel injectors too. Thank you for the tip of heavy duty clamps n steel n plastic wire ties. You sound experienced and own a marine engine? Cheers

@@24hourtravellers i'm an Engineer by profession who does a reasonable amount of hands on stuff. Would luv to help u guys out with fiberglass, engine, or troubleshoot and solve anything n everything at all the next time when u guys r in RSYC or the neighborhood. Also, for more technical jobs, I have a fully equipped "bengkel kereta" and "braders" help at your disposal. As for the heat exchange, i hope it was a simple sand blast to get it back to optimal performance.
