This video is to help new installers and apprentice’s. It’s our findings that the modern colleges sometimes have their hands tied by modern curriculum, leaving gaps in real life gas work. Hopefully youtube can help bridge gaps.. this is a bit long winded but should help you know what you’re up against.

Once the boilers are over 5 years old, it wants to book in for an overhaul like this. Don't wait for the gasket to go and melt everything or the baffle to stick. But he will need prior notice to allow more time.👍

Great upload.. Was thinking you made changing the bearing plate washer harder than it is. I Normally just unlock the connection to the fan and check and replace the washer if needed, but kudos to you as you also changed the fan seal and 'mixing tube' 'banana' washer also. Like anything the more your familiar with something, the easier it is, so I actually do these regularly, and find it straightforward . Thanks for your channel

Allow yourself a 3hr time slot just incase, you can strip them down in half hour when things go smoothly.. but sometimes everything bonded in so tightly

How does the cost compare with servicing the heat exchanger & replacing it with a new heat exchanger?

Labour would be similar, big difference is the price of the cell, so about £500 more I guess.. but sometimes the baffles come straight out so the jobs a lot easily.

Very useful! Do you rate these boilers over Baxi heat only?

I do, but the Baxi is a great boiler and a solution for an application where a pump overrun is not possible

You can get the baffle extraction tool from any woseley

I know they do the normal tool, but I’ve not seen them doing the puller..mines made by Dr pipe.. which you can buy from the Dr pipe website … free plug there 🙂

Wasn't there a memo from Bosch telling service engineers to replace the top seal every year as they fail around the electrodes. (Admitting there is a design fault?)

Every 5 years, not really a fault in design. They still have the same design now.. Just people are leaving them until they fail the depression reading and this was to long for the gasket lifespan

@@GHancock I'm in a bit of a dilemma, my 12Ri has never been serviced properly because it has always passed the flueway pressure drop test and it's now 18 years old. I thought they were wrong to never brush out the heat exchanger. It had a new fan assembley fairly recently so the red gasket would have been replaced but I'm worried that the baffles will be stuck in there. I wish you covered the South, you do a proper job.

@@Martindyna chances are this baffle will be stuck solid..you need a independent installer who doesn’t have to get around 8 jobs a day.. someone who likes the challenge of getting them out. Buy yourself a pot of Bicarbonate ready to lend them.. failing this start saving for a new boiler with 10 year guarantee. Sorry I don’t travel very far as I never have the need to..most my jobs are in a 5 mile radius 🙂

We all like todo things roperly but when you tell them what a full strip down costs they go else were. On a cd you have a £100 on parts so its a £200 job

You’d only have to do this every 5 years…so it’s not to bad to sell..beats them having a new heat exchanger

Should clean the trap, and set co2 minimum.. but every 5 years make sure you get a full strip down.. but expect to pay more. If it’s left to long the baffle will not come out or burner gasket will fail.

They are a lovely boiler to fit , servicing these boilers nearly gives me a reak down .What a terrible design . Worcester should of designed a smaller version of the CDI .

one of the worst designed heat exchangers ever. will never beat the baxi boilers.2.5 mins and your into the chamber.these boilers are difficult, take ages and are maid of ali. salts up all the time. ive no idea why people thing these are the best boilers.

Mainly the CDI and He that built there reputation, but I have a lot of these ticking over at 16plus years without to much trouble, plus Worcester was the first to make a down loading burner whilst all the others messed around with condensing exchanger added to up existing design, I like Baxi too..but I can pick fault with every manufacturer.. so after service becomes the key as well as good manufacturing. Every Engineer has to push the product he believes in.

British Gas and homeserve do minimal in and out in 10 minutes and the worst thing they charge £110
