I am very interested in UN especially UNHCR, but one of my mentors who is a university professor told me that it's not possible for me because the UN positions are quota-based-- those rich countries who donate , their citizens are only privileged not people like me who come from a conflict - inflicted country. Does anyone have an idea?

False. I am from Cameroon and work with UNHCR. They're local recruitment for many agencies. Go there and enter the local or NO ( national officer) positions. Hopefully with the additional experience you will a good fit.

He is lying to you my friend. All you need is faith. Just apply to it and what is the worst that could happen?

what your mentor said is not true. In fact, you would be an amazing candidate, especially if you speak one of the UN languages. There many people who work for the U.N, yet they come from "conflict-inflicted" country. Just make sure that you get volunteer or work experience in your own country in order to improve your chances. Best of Luck :)
