Keep it up, even if it means standing alone. You will NEVER regret being on God’s side. I am in my 20s, I have so many friends full of heart breaking regrets because of bad decisions and neglecting biblical principles.

I too felt this same way when I was your age. I was in college & joined the Baptist Student Union, where I met wonderful Christian friends who made me feel welcomed & loved. Although I felt very burdened by a sense of who I was & wanted to know the truth of how to change my life from all the hurting. I hope you see my message and that you are in a better place. Jesus calls us as individuals, so in different ways. so I will pray that your heart is closer to Jesus & you know how much he cares & loves you.

Feb. 3,2023 @11:01am I'm a caregiver for an elderly patient with dementia who just had a rough morning. After settling her into her recliner, I played this song for her. She is now relaxed and sleeping. God is good! He calms the confusion and brings rest to the soul and mind. ❤️

@@Marie-xm1gu Thanks for your entry (as well for the security guard’s original post). I took a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education many years ago and was assigned to an adult day care ward. As well as to another ward with full time residents, some of whole had dementia. People with dementia tend to feel lost and often don’t know why. As a student chaplain, what I did was bring my guitar and played old time hymns similar to this song. It always made the difference. Even those who couldn’t remember their names, suddenly were able to remember the lyrics of songs like How Great Thou Art. Music, especially worship music, has an unique ability to bring the best of out of us. When David played his harp in Saul’s Court - it brought Saul peace of mind (and King Saul likely had a terrible case of dementia going-on at the time) There is a beautiful movie called A Trip to Bountiful and it’s on KZbin. They haven’t taken it down. Softly and Tenderly is the theme song. Check it out. God bless

Finally- a hymn that is sung properly, at a proper tempo, with good harmony and no jazzed up instrumentals. It almost seems as thought people have forgotten how to sing hymns, perhaps because so many have forgotten hymns altogether. Hymns have largely been replaced by "christianized" pop music performed by entertainers.

As a baby I was nursed to sleep by my grandmother rocking me and singing this hymn. That was 75 years ago, and I have always loved it. I have never heard it sung more beautifully. Thank you. So many of these Gospel hymns have been left out of modern hymn books because it is felt that they are too emotional and sentimental. But how can we embrace the love of Jesus without emotion?

If that's the case, I suspect there will be some, perhaps many, who will miss you when you go to be with the Lord. Look at it this way. Mamaluchka H. Yes. I certainly agree. Whenever I stray in my walk, talk and thoughts as I endeavor by the Holy Spirit's help to journey with God the Father. It fits me every minute of every day when the Holy Spirit points out my erring ways. Today was one such day. He led me to Matthew 18 on forgiving others always, especially when they cause you to sin; and then, by His Spirit, He led me to this beautiful hymn of His mercy, grace and love toward us all. Thank you Lord Jesus and thank you brother. In Christ with you, Arlette McNeill

I think what the bible is saying is that heaven is a world without fear or threats, filled with people of the world united as one to achieve common goals, which is where the world is heading, but that is no thanks to people who deny the truth. The bible is a great book but needs to be updated so that kids can understand and relate to it.

a little historical note on this: D.L.Moody loved this hymn-melody so much that he told Thompson (author and musician) as he lay dying that he would rather have written it than have done anything else. Come home, come home, Ye who are weary Come home. Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, Calling, O sinner come home. Thompson himself died in 1911 at the age of sixty-two.

One of the most beautiful hymns I know that reminds me of the price Jesus paid for us, then asks us to come to Him as we are, ready to receive us if we are willing and obedient. Though we strive so much to make "a living", the true living as we know it shall be through what He has prepared for us in the life to come, eternally with Him in our new homes prepared for us by our Lord. Indeed Lord Jesus, we have found great refuge in Your presence and look forward to when You will either come back to rule here on earth or You call us "home" to You. Maranatha!

I was in the church starting at age four. In my twenties I went astray. One day I fell to my knees, I was tired of being sick and tired. I was still in the church with a hangover on Sundays. One night, I said, "Lord, take this from me." I prayed from Feb 8th to Feb 18 many years ago. I had an epiphany and began to take the Lord seriously again, even more so. I'm now a Missionary and sang in the choir before I became sick. It was a miracle.

Yes, always remember....The salvation of our souls ought to be in the front of all of our minds. There are things that the Bible tells us that we must do in order to be saved. We must hear God's Word (Romans 10:17), believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God (John 3:36), confess His name before men (Romans 10:9-10), repent of whatever sin that is in our lives (Luke 13:3), and be baptized for the remission of our sins (Acts 2:38).... The Plan of Salvation: Just a reminder.... Everyone should be able to understand the plan of salvation and explain it to others to help everyone understand the reasons behind the five step plan of salvation. 1. Read: Acts 16:30 2. About the Text: 1) Supposing that his prisoners had escaped, the jailer was about to kill himself. 2) Paul stops him. 3) Having had such a close brush with death, the jailer knew that he needed salvation. 4) So he asks this question. 3. Regarding our situation. 1) What about us? 2) Are we asking this question of ourselves? 3) Are we asking this question of others? 4) Do we KNOW how to answer this question today should someone put it to us? 5) Let's study how to answer this question this morning. DISCUSSION: What must I do to be saved? 1. Hear 1). This is the starting point because one cannot believe without hearing. Romans 10:17 2. We must hear someone. 1) In contrast to Moses and the Prophets, we must hear Jesus. 2) Deut.18:18, 19 3) Acts 3:22, 23; Acts 7:37 4) Hebrews 1:1-3 5) Matthew 17:1-5 6) John 14:6 3. We must hear something. 1) Jesus said, "Take heed what ye hear." Mark 4:24 2) The object of our hearing is not just any message, but the gospel message! 3) Mark 16:15, 16 -- preach the gospel. 4) Hear the word of the gospel, Acts 15:7 5) Hear the word, Acts 4:4; 10:44; 13:7; 13:44. 6) Hear Christ preached, Acts 2:22; Acts 8:5, 6 7) Hear things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, Acts 8:12 8) Hear all things commanded of God; Acts 10:33 9) Hear the salvation of God; Acts 28:28 4. We must hear in a specific way--with a view toward obedience. 1) Jesus said, "Take heed therefore, how ye hear." Luke 8:18 2) Matthew 7:24-27 3) Luke 8:21 4) Luke 11:28 5) James 1:22-25 BELIEVE 1. Comes after hearing because of Romans 10:17 2. New Testament faith involves knowledge. 1) Luke 1:1-4 -- belief and certainty. 2) John 20:30, 31 -- Evidence given so we can believe. 3) 2 Corinthians 4:6 -- God gives knowledge to us. 4) Ephesians 3:4 -- we can have the knowledge that Paul had when we read 5) Ephesians 4:13 -- unity of the faith is based upon knowledge 6) Phil.3:8 -- sacrifice all to gain the knowledge of Jesus Christ 7) Col.1:10 -- increase in knowledge 8) 1 Timothy 2:4 to be saved we must come to a knowledge of the truth. 9) 2 Peter 1:5, 6 -- we are to add knowledge to our faith and virtue 3. New Testament faith involves trust. 1) Romans 4:17-21 -- Abraham's faith involved a great amount of trust. 2) Acts 1:6-9 3) Acts 10 and Peter's vision. 4) Acts 16:6-10 -- Paul and company trusted in God and went where God told them to go. 5) Hebrews 11:7ff -- these were all situations in which they put their trust in God. 4. New Testament faith involves action. 1) John 6:29 -- God's work is the work of faith. 2) Acts 2:41 -- when they believed (received their word) they acted. 3) Acts 8:12 -- when they believed, they acted. 4) Acts 8:39 -- when he believed he acted. 5) Acts 16:14 -- when she believed she acted. 6) Hebrews 4:1-6 -- Disobedience is the same as not having faith. 7) Hebrews 11:7ff -- Those who believed, acted upon that faith. 8) James 2 -- Faith without works is dead. Repent 1. Comes after faith because one cannot know of what to repent without believing one is in sin. 2. Not just being sorry. 1) 1 Corinthians 7:8-11 a. Not a sorrow of the world which works death. b. But having a godly sorrow. c. A sorrow that works righteousness and purity. 2) Notice the sorrow of Judas. Matthew 27:3-5 3) Contrast with the sorrow of Peter. Matthew 26:75 4) Look at the repentance of Paul. Acts 9:9 3. A change of mind that results in the reformation of life. 1) The word repentance literally means a change of mind. 2) Sinners are called to repentance--to change their minds and ways. a. Matthew 2:17 b. Luke 5:32 c. Acts 2:38 d. Acts 3:19 3) Matthew 3:8 -- repentance bears fruit. 4) Acts 26:20 -- must do some things that suit repentance; that show repentance. 4. Repentance is action of faith. 1) Luke 7:36-50 -- the woman with the ointment. 2) Luke 19:1-10 -- Zacchaeus 3) Acts 8:9-12 -- at one time they believed Simon, but now they believed Philip 4) Acts 9: 5) Acts 16:33 -- washed their stripes. 5. Failure to repent results in condemnation. 1) Matthew 11:20 ff 2) Acts 17:30 3) 1 Peter 3:9 4) Luke 13:3, 5 Confess 1. Confession comes after repentance and belief, but before baptism 1) Notice John 9:22 and John 12:42 2) Acts 8:37 2. Jesus made it plain that those who did not confess Him would not be confessed of the Father. 1) Matthew 10:32, 33; 2) Luke 12:8 3. Confession is UNTO salvation; Romans 10:9, 10. 4. 1 Timothy 6:12; To be in the sight of many witnesses. Be Baptized 1. Matthew 3:6-16 -- in Jordan river, with much water, Jesus to fulfill all righteousness. 2. Matthew 28:19 -- in order to make disciples. 3. Mark 1:4-9 -- for the remission of sins 4. Mark 16:16 -- shall be saved 5. Luke 3:7-21 -- for the remission of sins 6. John 1:25-33 -- with water 7. John 4:1, 2 -- Jesus baptized in water as well. 8. Acts 1:5 -- with water. 9. Acts 2:38 -- in the name of Jesus; for the remission of sins. 10. Acts 2:41 -- based upon gladly receiving God's word. 11. Acts 8:12-16 -- based upon the hearing of the kingdom of God. 12. Acts 8:36-38 -- had to go down into the water to do it. Preceeded by confession of faith. 13. Acts 9:18 -- followed repentance. 14. Acts 10:47, 48 -- commanded by God. 15. Acts 16:15 -- based upon faith. 16. Acts 16:33 -- followed repentance--whole house did it. 17. Acts 18:8 -- preceeded by hearing and faith. 18. Acts 19:3-5 -- different from John's baptism. 19. Acts 22:16 -- for washing away sins, equal to calling upon the name of the Lord. 20. Romans 6:3, 4 -- the likeness of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. 21. 1 Corinthians 1:13-17 -- does not matter WHO does the baptizing as long as it is INTO Christ. 22. 1 Corinthians 12:13 -- into the Body by the Spirit 23. Galatians 3:27 -- into Christ; put on Christ 24. Ephesians 4:5 -- only ONE baptism. 25. Colossians 2:12 -- burial, faith in the operation of God. 26. 1 Peter 3:21 -- does now save us! CONCLUSION: 1. God's plan for man's salvation involves all of these things. 2. Let's learn it, live it, obey it, and teach it to others!

Every time I come across this soulful song I remember the very first time I attended a Deeper Life Campus Congress at Brofoyedro in Kumasi/Ghana in 1998 and saw truly born again youth at service for the Lord. It was waaoow!! That was when I first fell in love with Deeper Life Ministry. I remember telling the lady(my former colleague student)who invited me that I was never leaving the serene and peaceful atmostphere felt at the retreat grounds(camp) for anywhere else even after the Congress ended. It was then a secluded place far from any settlement.
