I know what you mean about growing up with jumps like that... I looked all over when I was younger after moving around and trying to find good BMX jumps. We didn't have stuff like people got. Now like all the skate parks and dirt jump parks We didn't have any of that stuff. We had to get a shovel and build our jumps... And we did and we had a few but nothing like what you're talking about and I know what you mean

It's probably one of the best trails to ride for getting experience with certain features in the Upper Metro Detroit area. Beyond that, we have to drive a lot further out. That's why it's often mentioned. It's our goto place for a quick ride or jump session on work days.
@dag6812 жыл бұрын
Our trail location is in Marquette. When I see these open trails and lanes, smooth surfaces, etc, then ride our chunky stuff here, it’s obvious this kind of progression in trail design is a good way to go. You have to be so much more alert to trail variances here, along with built in obstacles, that the stuff we have here is not real conducive to beginner and intermediate riders. At the same time, we don’t have any really huge stuff, for advanced riders.
@dukeofmtb2 жыл бұрын
I think Marquette has pretty good variety. You guys have some smooth flow in the back with medium to large jumps and drops(like Bertha and Hardtail Pride), and then a ton of natural tech with chunk and rock drops. We _wish_ we had your trails in SE Michigan. Bentonville is actually very similar to Marquette in it's variety.

Really not bad at all for being right in the middle of town. They even have jumps on the sidewalk so you can hit features on the way to the trails. We didn't even scratch the surface with this vid. It was just too hot that day to explore more.

That boneyard drop is intimidating isn’t it? Like a rock diving board off a cliff.

Yup. The uneven surface is what really sketched me out. I was really concerned about getting tipped forward if the rear wheel clips a high spot after a dip. 😬

😅Thanks! We're just being us. Carving out our own niche in the "goofy mtb couple that does crazy things together" genre was unintentional. lol☺ I think we just have a really good handle on drops. We're actually pretty mediocre at a lot of other basics(proper braking, cornering, jumps, etc). Getting better though. Little by little. 😁👍

Cool little recap of some of a little bit of the stuff here at Slaughter Pen. Loved seeing the locals helping out! Our MTB community is so friendly, so I wasn't really surprised, but it was cool that you caught it on camera. I agree...that BoneYard drop is siginficantly more difficult than Drop the Hammer. There was a lot more stuff even when you were here, and now there's even an entirely new area with four different gravity lines! For those watching and planning to go ride "The Boneyard" area and hitting that drop, just please be sure you walk out and take a really good look at it first. If you look really close when they walk out onto the narrow "sender rock," there's actually a little hole in it about 2 feet from the end. It's lost even more of the soil there, so that hole is more pronounced. It's not a big deal, but you do have to be aware of it, because it has bucked some people who have gotten injured going OTB on the landing. The other thing is, they are starting past the wall ride, and not pedaling in. If you come off the wall ride with any speed, you can over-shoot the transition and land to flat...no bueno. I"ve witnessed a sheared pedal, broken carbon crank, and a broken frame there. I'd guess it's probably 12 feet vertical to the end of the landing. DTH is a little higher, but this landing is flatter, and the take off is a lot more technical. That drop has injured several riders, so as a local, I'm just conveying acquired information that I hope will encourage people to do what the signs say..."Pre-ride, Re-ride, and Free Ride." In this case...it's more about making sure you survey that closely before hitting it. WE HATE seeing tourists get hurt on our trails!!
@dukeofmtb2 жыл бұрын
Good advice. That's why we made sure to take a good look at it first, especially after watching videos of people getting sent over their bars. If you look closely, you'll notice I pulled up my rear wheel to make sure it doesn't get clipped by the unevenness on the rock.
@willbros14992 жыл бұрын
@@dukeofmtb ....Yeah, you guys did it right....completely assess the situation FIRST. But, you also possess the skills to do it. We can see immediately when they're one match short of a dumpster fire, and we get the hell out of there so we don't have to deal with the aftermath! I can't tell you how many times we see groups of tourists from out of town who are in "We've got to hit that to get ourselves on camera doing it," mode, when they have ZERO skills to back up even trying it.

@MR-lq4hp She usually just wears slim fitting joggers from Costco, or youth pants for boys. She has some boys cargo camo pants that people ask about all the time too. She even dyed one red. She's really good at finding cool pants that are good for biking. It's crazy how often other women ask about all her different pants. She has a gift. Lol 😆

I don't think it's your wife's fault that she keeps noise diving... I think it's the bike. I'd suggest adjusting the rebound on the rear shock to be slower. This was a big problem for me as I was learning to ride jumps with my enduro bike, which wasn't setup properly when I bought it.
@dukeofmtb2 жыл бұрын
We've been working on our jump technique over the winter. It turned out to be that she kept trying to yank the bar back causing her to get pulled forward instead. I had a similar issue before. We've progressed quite a bit with our jumps since this video was recorded. She already has her rear rebound 1 click from the slowest possible setting but thanks for looking out. I appreciate the feedback. 👍

Dude I am really sketched out by your wifes jumping and drop technique. An OTB on a drop of that size, which she nearly did, would result in a trip to the hospital. I suggest she learn proper technique on smaller jumps/drops and perfects that before going big.

🧩 I'm with you man. That all makes perfect logical sense, but try telling that to a very compulsive person with ADHD. I try to keep her safe to the best of my abilities. My autistic mind looks for all the variables, and then I convey all the possibilities to her, and also explain how to approach the feature to reduce risk. When I'm able to convince her to listen, things usually go smoothly. Other times, she sends it without a second thought. I'm more risk averse and calculated, and she can be a compulsive adrenaline junky. Riding together works very well for us as we balance each other out. Without her, I wouldn't try half the things I do. Without me, she would be injured more often. I appreciate the concern though. Thanks for looking out for a fellow rider. 🧩
