So, I've been working on this video for a while. I wanted an MTB Kicker Ramp for that would be easy to break down for storage and had some adjustability to it. After many hours researching and throwing away designs I came up with this ramp.
Please note: this is more or less just a prototype, there are many things that I could fine-tune, make more efficient, or change altogether. Some things don't become apparent until you actually build them and then by that time it's too late. So, the downloadable plans will not be an exact representation of the ramp in this video and will include some of my last minute adjustments and additions, such as the area to store the leg spreader when not in use.

A friend and I recently used your instructions to build this jump for a highschool mountain bike team in California. It was a hit with both the kids and the parents! We watched your video over and over as we built everything to spec and wanted to thank you for making such an excellent follow along video to pair with the blueprints. We are two women and the dads on the team were notably impressed. 💪

For any Aussies out there your Bunnings list is: 2 | 90mm x 45mm x 5.4m H3 timber ($64.60) 1 | 1200mm x 1198mm x 12mm plywood board ($30.09) 1 | 12mm x 1.2m pine dowel ($4.37) 2 | Padbolt Double Eye Pinnacle 200mm x 12mm ($13.62) That's the hitch pin when you cut the knob off. 1 | 10g x 40mm 100pk treated pine screws ($8.74) 1 | 10g x 75mm 50pk treated pine screws ($8.93) 1 | gate hook&eye 3pk ($2.15) 4 | 85mm hinge ($9.84) 4 | M12 x 110mm bolts ($8.52) 16 | M12 washers ($4.64) I couldn't find spring washers so used loctite. 4 | M12 nuts ($1.32) Total Cost: $156.82 (presumes you have PowerPass otherwise add 5%. Presumes you have wood glue already). Total Time: 6.5hrs. 80% of which is trying to cut 81 and 61 degree cuts then drill the dowel holes. I ended up screwing the legs to the other board and doing a free hand cut with the circular saw. Using the jigsaw resulted in the blade bending and throwing away that leg. With 2 x 5.4m lengths there's no additional timber if you need to re-do a leg. Add 30min looking for pencils, square and clamps that you "literally just put down right there". Total Weight: 33kg (pretty heavy and awkward to get in the ute). Tips: - Once you've cut and assembled the legs that will fold back, measure their combined width (when folded) then make that your cross brace width. Otherwise you'll cut the cross braces to length as per the plan (to determine the width of your ramp) then fold your legs and they'll overlap (if you're like me and aren't that accurate). - Cut the 1200mm x 1198mm plywood the width of your jump then use that long side piece offcut for the top panel. Don't cut the board the length of the piece you need otherwise you'll end up using two pieces of plywood on your top panel as it's no longer wide enough. - Leave the gap between the plywood wide enough to get your hand between, it's heavy and tricky to carry without getting a hand in there (I did the width of a window packer). - Do what my neighbour did: Send this video to your neighbour and get him to build it. Excellent ramp and thank you for putting this video together! The plans are great (missing a few pieces of hardware off the shopping list) but a well put together video, design and end product!

Just finished building this. Really great ramp, great video, great plans. One change I'd make if building this again would be to make it 28 inches wide instead of 30. If you do this then you only need one half sheet of plywood for the whole thing. Thanks, Paul

No paywall, No newsletter or anything attached to download the plans. Thanks a freaking lot. I'd like to pay for these plans. The plans even include a metric version! One note for improvement for the metric version: We metric peops don't have "two-by-fours" and although it is quite easy to google what 4 inches are, it would be nice to see this reflected in the plans aswell.

What a great project. I really want to recognize that you went from concept to finish product and you filmed it in a way that is easy to follow. That is a lot of effort, time and a conglomeration of skills with execution. I’m a self employed renovation/finish carpenter, I’ve been putting a tool belt on every day for 30 years. I look forward to building this with my son. My only suggestion is to use glue everywhere possible. Wood glue is good, construction adhesive would be best, it will bond into places that are gapped. The racking strength and durability would be much greater.

Just finished mine. I redesigned the bottom pivot so that the entry section can fold around to the bottom for smaller storage size, but all the geometry is the same as the original design. This thing is super sturdy and feels great hitting it on my dirt jumper. Thanks for the project!

Great plans for a sturdy and portable ramp! This project is pretty easily accomplished with minimal tools, the only power tools really needed are a circular saw and drill. A miter saw would certainly make things easier but is not needed. The build cost me about $120 and took 6 hours. Thank you!

I'm so happy I was able to find this video. I went to my local hardware store the same evening and started building my very own ramp. **I did make one change to the design.** On the lower platform, I replaced the lag bolts with a hitch pin on each side so that I'm able to break it down a little smaller to fit in my SUV. It is a little easier to transport and seems really stable. Thanks again Cody! Looking forward to a portable solution for the table top and landing ramp.

I am just about to start this build and was calculating what scraps I have lying around that I can use. Looking into your plans I have two recommendations for future builders. 1- if the largest section of plywood is reduced to 29"x30" in size it is possible to get two builds out of one 4x8' sheet. That way you can invite a friend over and build two at once! 2- the weight can be reduced by using 2x3"s for the 'entry cross pieces' and 'lip cross pieces'. This is what I intend to do. I will leave the other pieces as 2x4"s.

I've come back to watch this a second time and realized you are really underselling the 16 degree final block. the block may be 16 degrees, but you need to add the first angle of the take off without any blocks, which is already about 30 degrees or so. So you have yourself a nice 45-50 degree take off angle to the ground at the max.

This is an amazing design! I'm wondering if you would be able to modify the design a little bit and be able to reasonably wear it like a backpack?

Thank you, I took you drawings and changed to make it more portable. So 520mm wide 1200 long. Put a double hinge on the entry panel so it folds in half. Total weight 15kg. Can't work out how to add a photo.

Like this setup.. Like a lot of people checking out the mtb hopper ramps but not wanting to pay the price for them (don't get me wrong. I'm sure they are worth it for the quality of build, material and engineering that's gone into them... I just can't afford $500-1000 in ramps.) I was wondering if you think 2x4 is required for this... or could you build the "side arms" out of thick plywood like the MTB hoppers? Just thinking it would be great to get the weight down a bit more on something that would be fun to be portable. Haven't built a ramp yet though.

I LOVE this! Any thoughts on how I could get the floating entryway to also fold back on itself so that it could fold into a thicker, but shorter package that would more easily fit in my trunk?
@LunchRide
@LunchRide 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. To get the entry to fold back you need to add an articulating knuckle. Basically another piece about 4” long with bolts on either end that connect the exhausting pivot pint on the ramp to the lips pivot point. You would need to counter sink one of the bolt holes to allow for clearance, and you would need to add a locking pin to keep it from moving around too much when using the ramp. I bet none of this makes sense... sorry, but yes, there is a way.
