In this monthly episode of “THEATER: All the Moving Parts,” host Patrick Pacheco has a conversation with top Set Designer/Architect David Rockwell. Rockwell has designed sets for more than 60 productions, from this season's "Tootsie" and "Kiss Me, Kate" to "Kinky Boots,” "Hairspray," and "She Loves Me,” which he won the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design. Rockwell is also internationally known for his architecture and design, including being the collaborating architect on “The Shed” at Hudson Yards.
In this interview, Rockwell reveals the impact of his childhood growing up in the US and Guadalajara, Mexico, on his passion for color, and the connection to people and immersive experiences in his design. Rockwell also takes us on his process from initial idea to stage and structure, including the 200,000 square-foot The Shed in Hudson Yards (Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Lead Architect, and Rockwell Group, Collaborating Architect).
Hosted by veteran journalist and commentator Patrick Pacheco, this new show features in-depth interviews with a myriad of artists, including directors, choreographers, writers, designers, composers and others. The show is taped at Chez Josephine Restaurant in New York City’s famed Theater District.
On THEATER: All the Moving Parts, host Patrick Pacheco looks beyond the spotlight at the passionate and unheralded creative talents that are critical to the theatrical experience. From costumer designers to dramaturges and everything in between, Patrick looks at all the moving parts of a Broadway production.
