Set of 20 Outdoor Coloured Lights

Today, we are prepping this set of outdoor lights for use over Christmas.

I remember seeing something similar to these with a black seal at the base being available in about 1981 from the Studio Cards catalogue (now Studio)

Yeah, a lot of Noma and Pifco ones, plus many others had that seal. It comes on the new spare bulbs, too. 👍

Those are interestin' lights. The bulbs look also exactly like American C7 and the E12 base is also known as candelabra.

Yeah, the crossovers are interesting to compare between here and the states. Not just fitment, but voltage and wiring. 🤗

Beauties. I don't remember seeing any of that kind of strings with E12 bulbs here in Finland. No E10 strings much either, except some "soviet garland" ones, our family had a set with a kind of flower shaped covers with 12 tips, I miss those and am happy we had them. I doubt those were sold here officially. The bulbs looked like flashlight bulbs, but 12V I guess. And we did/do have candelabras and tree candles with E10 base (3:27). We had tree candles with 16 candle shaped bulbs earlier, getting rare I guess. But we mostly had boring lights here, it seems. What I'd really love would be to paint those E10 bulbs at 3:27 and make a light string out of them. I want at least 30-40 bulbs of equally bright red (not orangish), yellow or amber, green (not bluish), blue (maybe a bit cyanish), pink. I'm ok with LED filaments in colored bulbs, but really I like that shape of bulb and I keep daydreaming about such a light string. 😁 Maybe some day. There is something satisfying about the Edison screw bulbs, the push in types are boring. Even the E5 lilliputs, just knowing that the base is there, even hidden is somehow satisfying.

@vcluk 230V, as far as I know, if that's what you mean. Those outdoor lights used to have 24V transformers, but nowadays it seems to be around 30V for the LED ones. It's possible that there were some more exotic lights, though. I just have not seen much. Many of those old plastic light holders have crumbled. I saw some kind of intriguing set for sale a couple of years ago, it had Finnish text, but I had never seen such lights, like they were from a parallel universe. Possibly have been sold for non-christmas use at some garden store or something, I imagine, one off things... Something just popped into my mind, in our family's christmas light box we had some kind of pine cone/diamond'ish shaped, maybe 6V E5 bulbs, could be wrong about the voltage, but I used to play with those until they all broke, they were likely pre 80s, I wonder where those bulbs came from. I don't remember much from the E5 light string era as an 80's child. That's something to be Googled now. I may have tracked them down in the past, but I forgot. 🤔 I'll ask my dad, he has a better memory than I do. I guess that's why I am so obsessed about finding out some things, people with good memory may just have pristine images in their minds, neatly organized and available, taken for granted...

So these are wired in series like mini lights, but they are C7 shaped? Interesting, here in the US, C7 lights are wired in parallel and operate at 120 volts.
