I’m a third year kindergarten teacher and I live by my hand signals! It takes a minute for them to figure it out but once they do it has helped reduce the constant “Teacher!” calling.

In either the calm corner or the play area with all the bins you have you could order I think they are called fidgets. My sister who is a Pre-K teacher and used to be a kindergarten teacher got those from Amazon and said her kids loved them.

Seeing the change, after 6 hours of hard work transforming the classroom, what a surprise I saw around the room, it had started to be tidied up, neatly arranged. I salute your work. The concept is very futuristic. A smart solution for the convenience of students and their teachers.

Love this transformation and I do agree about the teacher desk. I’ve taught kindergarten for 11 years now and it hardly ever got used. This last year I turned it into a center table for writing. Can’t wait to see your year unfold!

It is looking so good! I teach kindergarten as well and you can always add cars, dinos, legos, etc. to your "play space." My students also LOVED kinetic sand. I introduced it later in the year because they need help with closing the container and playing with it responsibly haha Also for your book bins I LOVE the idea of putting a picture of the student on the bins along with their names. I think having their names help them learn to look out for it! I cannot wait to see the next few days of your setup!

Love this! You’d be surprised at how kindergartners can remember numbers! I labeled their bins and lockers the same number and never had a problem!

Maybe consider having your play areas separate (more defined areas of the classroom) I would keep the kitchen area separate from the blocks and other toys so the kitchen area area doesn’t get too congested. Also think about how many children should be in a play area at once and think about a system to manage it :)

Looking great!!! I’ve taught K for 5 years now and absolutely love it! For the K saying- you could do “This is our happy place” “In our Kindergarten era” “Twinkle twinkle little star, I wished for you and here you are”. Play center ideas: matchbox cars, blocks, Mr potato head, stuffed animals, dolls, Polly pockets, legos, magnablocks, any sort of building toy.

Wow!!!! Your classroom looks amazing!! You and your mom rocked it!!!!! Your rug looks so great by the play area. It solidifies the space even more. Your room flows so nicely!! I can't wait to see the color wall, I think it will so good on the first skinny wall space you mentioned because everyone will see it as soon as you walk into the room. Having a cute quote/saying above the cubbies would be perfect! How about "Kindergarten Rocks"! And you can take pictures of the kids in an excited pose or simply smiling, or some kids can hold up a toy guitar or microphone. Life is Sweet in Kindergarten and you can print out their picture just their face, cut it into a circle and then glue their face on to a bigger circle of colored paper so the pic has a colored border and add them around the quote and the faces become skittles/candy. 😊

For play area I would get dolls or stuffed animals (I like collecting the book characters from kohls for only $5!). Also would be fun to have a small play table and chairs for the kitchen. Definitely need blocks, magnatiles, sensory table, any kind of building toys actually. My son loves cars and trucks so that would be fun.

What about taking the kitchen and turning it around toward the tent in the space the wider book case is in now. That would be a fun place to play house. Then the two book cases that look to be the same could be across from each other on the rug making it more balanced and the rug would be a soft place to read. The white book case would be great for puzzles or other manipulatives the kids could play on the rug. Maybe the bench shelf could sit centered on the edge of the rug turned towards the room with activities inside so you could have kids playing in all different spaces of the rug area. The room is looking amazing and you are working so hard. Bless your Mom for helping out :)

So cute! You’re putting so much thought and effort into this, they will love it! I teach kindergarten and they can definitely handle hand signals, I use them every day! I think in the play area, you could add legos, barbies or dolls, anything building like, etc. I also am not sure what you’re doing for morning work but I have morning tubs that I put out on the tables with things like magnetic tiles, puzzles, etc. Also having their name as many places as you can around the room is a great idea, so they can learn it quickly!

I would see if you are able to have each of the children bring in a picture of their family and above their cubbies, you can have pictures of all the students families. I did this in my kindergarten room and it helped the kids, especially at the beginning of the year when they missed their families. Then throughout the year, they would talk to their friends about their families and show them the pictures.

I teach PreK and we use the hand signals as well. We just had to spend some extra time teaching and practicing the signals but the kids did great with them.

Wow, Madison! That's a very happy feeling classroom. Last year was my first year teaching with a co teacher. Something that worked for us ... My co teacher would be in charge of lunch , and I would be in charge of dismissals ,exc. Of course, we were both involved in every area , but it helped us know what to expect and made so we were less likely to step on each other's toes.😉

Oh my gosh, your classroom is looking adorable!! So excited for you and this new journey❤️ I also teach fundations with my learning support kiddos and a tip I wish I knew when I started was to number each of your magnetic boards and also all the magnets that belong to that board with the same number so if you find one on the ground you know exactly whose magnet it is. We were constantly misplacing magnets all year long and it was not fun!!

Girl! Get you some “gorilla rug tape” it’s the absolute best stuff ever. I e had the same rug and tape down for the last three years with ZERO movement. It’s perfect for all those edges that try to curl up. Completely flat on a brand new unrolled rug. I got mine at Amazon, but you can probably pick it up at your local home improvement store also. Put the tape down on top of the other rug, and also on the floor under neath the first one.

Is the gorilla rug tape easy to get off a tile floor? Our janitors wax out floors yearly and I need a tape that is easy to remove. I used clear packing tape and ran it over corners and places that were curling up. I hope it lasts all year!
