love your videos, you show what your talking about so we newbies can see and therefore understand the whole process. We are in mist of planning our retirement RV plans. We've done the weekend thing for years with the kids and never gave water a second thought other than bring bottle water to drink. I have the same rig and the one thing that drove my CDO (extreme OCD... I like everything in order) was having my water supply line and my sewer line passing through the same opening. I also didn't like having 3 water inlet ports for my fresh water along with my two black tank flush inlets. I wish there was a way I could send you a picture of what I did to clean this up. It started with making a water manifold with water valves, check valves and pex tubing. The access whole was created with a 2" hole saw and threaded pvc connection with a cap. I now connect the water supply to one fitting in my wet-bay. Mounted in the compartment is the water regulator to manifold. Three valves, one for the filter system to the main supply, the other two valves go to one-way check valves then onto the black tank flushes. Now after watching your video, I need to plumb in a water softener. Thanks again, Dan

Great video! Working on setting up our new RV for full time and had so many questions on the water set up... I had all the stuff - camco filter, pressure regulator, 3 stage filter, and softner (same one you have there) - but had no idea in which order to hook everything up.... thanks for taking the time to make this video... I will be adding the quick connects to my shopping list for sure! Also love the idea of using the stored water to wash rv- that was another thing I was working on trying to sort out... we are seasonal for our first few months to learn our rig and be in a familiar place (and also soak up the best few months of weather here in MI)... but the park we are at has terrible water- you can see the stains all over everything.. this was the first video of yours I’ve watch but I’m subscribed and look forward to more!!!

my wet bay contains fresh, black and gray tanks. It is a place where I think Tiffin could improve. Our old Allegro Bus had a separate bay for the fresh and the gray and black had their own bay. On the Phaeton, we store the gray/black tank hose in a rubber tote with the gloves and washdown hose on one of the rollout trays. But I wish Tiffin kept these three tanks in two separate bays to prevent cross contamination into the fresh water tank. I am getting some great ideas and the insulation vid was great too. I will be watching it again to do a lot of the same rthings you did since we cold weather camp a lot in PA and Northern Ohio in the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years time frame. Great videos! Learn a lot everytime. For this water setup, do you run straight off the output or fill tank and run? Concern is output pressure with multiple filters and softener. Our site has only 45psi and after two filters flow/pressure is very low. Thank you
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 2 жыл бұрын
I do both. During the summer and fall when we're traveling and moochdocking I run off the fresh water tank. When parked for the winter I hook up to city water and it also has 45psi but is plenty of pressure with multiple filters and softener. If your pressure @ 45psi is not enough, that usually means the filters need to be changed. I change mine every 3 months. Also, check your faucet screes inside the RV and clean them out periodically.

Hello Martin. Somewhat new subscriber, but definitely new to finally starting to watch your videos. Firstly, thank you for your service! I have to tell you, your videos are not only addicting, but they are off the chart informative. Thank you to you and your wife for that! I have a new Outdoors RV travel trailer that I will do exclusively boondocking in our state of Colorado and the immediate surrounding states for 1-2 week trips, monthly. I definitely understand what you are saying about filtering and softening your trailer water. 95% of my trips will begin with us leaving our house in Ouray CO with a topped off 80 gal fresh water tank that is full of our mega hard water :-(. Our items in our house get that white buildup if water is allowed to stand. So, I can envision the importance of an external , self supported 2 filter system and softener to do that filling. My question is what is one to do with the water procured on the road that most likely would be in supplemental water containers such as those 7 gal water jugs you highlighted in your boondocking video. I would guess if I am procuring water at an uncontrolled source such as at a gas station or at the national forest campground water source, I just hook up those filters and softeners too at that location to fill the jugs? I guess I should clarify that the water in the jugs will probably put into the gravity fill of our rig so as to refill our freshwater tank. Safe travels!!
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 2 жыл бұрын
Good question: So since you have a large fresh water tank like we do all that water is filtered and softened and you use that water conservatively. But I use the jugs outside to do other things with and not use my fresh water from the tanks. It helps make my tank water last longer. Jug water doesn't need to be filtered or softened. Watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/foKvZJicp7WMj7c Now, if you still want to filter and soften the jug water, after you've filled your fresh water tank take the jugs inside the RV to the kitchen sink and fill them from the tank using your water pump. Then go back and top off the main tank. But for me and the way I use extra jug water, it doesn't need to be filtered or softened.
@campingalan
@campingalan 2 жыл бұрын
@@RVstreet thank you very much! Yes.. we could start a trip with filtered jug water. I guess a good protocol, if we refilled those jugs mid trip on a run to town, we could just restrict that new jug water, which would be unfiltered, to just outside or toilet water. I should highlight....we have a travel trailer, so we don't have a wet bay. We actually don't have very much space , with regards to outside storage, on our rig. So, I envision our filter/softener system being a portable, external system. Safe travels!!

i have one water filter in the bat are. Should i used an external camco filter at the water specket? Also does the water softner remove calcium? If so, do you still need to cleat the hot water tank as often? Again great work, keep them coming.
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 4 жыл бұрын
IMO you cannot over filter the water but you sure can under filter it. Some of these camp grounds have wells or bad city water. You never know where the water is coming from and they also vary greatly in there hardest/calcium & magnesium. So yes, IMO you should put an additional Camco filter at the water spigot. But just remember that is a sedi filter. It filters the bigger stuff. That's why I explained why we have 3 filters. 2 sedi's and a .5 carbon. And yes, with a water softener it not only will save your appliances and plumbing over time, it decreases the frequency you have to flush the water heater to remove deposits. thx for your questions Don.

Hey Martin Yet another informative video, thank you for spending the time to do this. We have a Damon Daybreak 35' and travel in the UK when we can. I'd like to install the filters you have but I am concerned that because they will not be used full time how can I ensure the water in the filters when in storage doesn't go bad? Would sealing the removable filters in a air tight bag do the trick or any suggestions? I know the Blue Camco one will be ok but what about the softener and sendi filters? Thanks Mick
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 3 жыл бұрын
Good questions Mick: The filters I use are bacteriostatic and can be left submerged in a stagnant canister of water for up to a month. If you do not plan on using the system for more than a month, the company recommends pulling those filters out of the canister, rinsing and lightly scrubbing the used filter, and allowing them to dry in the sun. Once dry, seal them in a gallon ziploc bag and keep in a safe place that will not freeze. *Concerning the water softener:* How to put your water softener in storage: Well we're full timers so we're always using our water softener. But if there are extended periods of time you don't use yours here is the procedure: *Storage Instructions* Before placing the unit in storage or being idle for extended periods: - Perform a back-flush. - Perform the regeneration process - Drain water from unit (do not dump the resin out). - Unit is ready for storage. Post Storage Instructions After extended periods of non-use, sanitize the unit by following the instructions below: - Perform back flush. - Completely drain all the water from the tank (do not dump the resin out) - Remove top cap and mix 1/2 packet of Sani-System with 2 gallons of water (usually can get at a hardware store or perhaps Walmart) - Connect the water source to the inlet of the softener, pour solution into tank, put the top cap back on, and let it sit for a maximum of 60 seconds. - Turn the water on full stream for 10 minutes and flush the Sani-System out. - Perform regeneration. - You're ready to go BEFORE Storing water softener for the winter if your going to be freezing temps Draining Instructions You can use either of these two options if draining water from the unit is required. For both options DO NOT REMOVE top cap or head. Step 1: Turn the unit upside down and allow water to drain from inlet/outlet. Step 2: Use air source applied to inlet and allow water to drain from outlet. Storage Instructions Before placing the unit in storage or being idle for extended periods: Step 1: Perform the regeneration process. Step 2: Drain water from unit (DO NOT dump the resin out). Step 3: Unit is ready for storage. Post Storage Instructions After extended periods of non-use, sanitize the unit by following the instructions below: Step 1: Perform back flush. Step 2: Completely drain all the water from the tank. Step 3: Remove top cap and mix 1/4 packet of Sani-System with a gallon of water for the Standard Model, 1/2 packet of Sani-System with 2 gallons of water for the Double Standard Softener, or 1 full packet of Sani-System with 4 gallons of water for the Park Model Water Softener. Step 4: Pour solution into tank, put the top cap back on, and let it sit for a maximum of 60 seconds. Step 5: Turn the water on full stream for 10 minutes and flush the Sani-System out. Step 6: Perform regeneration.

We've had many people requesting where to get these products. They are available in the description text and I'll list them here too. Joanie and I are so grateful for your support. *Concerning buying the water softener and the regeneration process* There are two ways to buy a water softener through my Channel: 1) The On-The-Go water softener through my Amazon Store in the “ Everything Water and Sewer” category. My awesome brass quick disconnects are also in this category. The quick disconnects sell out quickly-before they restock-so be sure to buy what you need when they become available. www.amazon.com/shop/rvstreet 2) The “Essential Portable RV Water Softener” through my fantastic, family owned water source company that I’ve been with for years. It’s the exact same water softener as the On-The-Go water softener, just with their name brand on it. This company carries all my custom hoses, water filters etc.. www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Affiliate=RVstreet 💗ONCE YOU CLICK THE LINK ABOVE, TYPE IN THE FOLLOWING PART NUMBERS IN THE SEARCH BOX and then put them in the cart and check out. These part numbers BELOW will give you the exact same system I have. • For the 16,000 grain Water Softener (that will supply you approx. 1,600 gallons between recharging which is simple to do) just type in the the search box-Water Softener-and then you'll see the Essential RV Water Softener Portable 16,000 Grain w/Custom Hose. • For my Watts Water Regulator, type in the search box-Watts 263A-LF with gauge • For the Dual Water Filter Canisters with mount, you want to get the Essential Whole RV Water Filter System with Bracket. You’ll receive (2) 10” Sedi Filters and (1) .5 Micron Carbon Filter. So type in the search box-Essential Whole RV Water Filter System with Bracket • For extra .5 Carbon Filters which you are going to need, type in the search box-F1Pb CFB PB10 10" Carbon Filter Cartridge-. They are only sold in single packs but normally last up to twice as long as the Sedi Filters • For extra Sedi filters, type in the search box-RV-SED1 cartridge, 10", 2-pk • For custom made to length hoses, type in the search box-Hoses-and then click-Hoses, custom Built for you-.Then order what you need. NOTE: This is a fantastic system and you'll no longer have to worry about your RV water from the city or in your fresh water tank. It will be safe, great tasting water throughout your RV and all your plumbing and appliances will be protected too from harsh calcium deposits that can wreak havoc in your RV. If you need help, you can call them @ 602-625-1875 ask for Brad and be sure you tell them that RVstreet sent you. *To regenerate the water softener, here’s my best updated practice I’ve developed over the years to make sure your water softener is MARTINIZED* 😝 1) Turn OFF city water 2) Do a back flush for 10 minutes with city water at full pressure 3) Turn OFF city water 4) Remove main cap and stem assembly 5) Add 2 full 26 oz. boxes of iodized/non-iodized salt 6) 2-4 teaspoons of powdered Super Iron Out, depending on the hardness of the water in your area 7) Stir these ingredients into the resin using the stem of the head assembly 8) Rinse the under side of the cap and stem assembly AND the threads on the water softener to be sure they are totally clean (so the cap will seal properly) then screw the main cap and stem assembly onto the water softener 9) Let it sit for 1 hour 10) Attach city water hose to inlet port on the water softener 11) Turn ON city water for 10 minutes at full pressure for a fast-rinse 12) Taste the water coming out of the outlet port. If it tastes a little salty continue to rinse for a couple more minutes. Once salt taste is gone, use a test strip to check hardness. Once everything is OK… 13) Hook up the main RV water hose to the outlet port and you’ll be good to go NOTE: Under normal usage conditions you should have to do this about every 2-3 months *My updated procedure for sanitizing the main city water spigot:* I've changed the way I sanitize the water spigot now. Just go to Walmart and buy a 32oz. spray bottle of either regular Clorox Cleaner & Bleach (green bottle) or the same one but foaming (blue bottle). I like the foaming version best, but sometimes it's hard to find.Spray everything inside and out, let it sit for about 2 minutes, open the spigot to flush out and hook up your water.

Carrying bottled water just takes up more space, adds more weight, adds more plastic to trash, is something else you have to buy and is unnecessary. Your fresh water tank will supply all the safe, good tasting water you need. If you need to conserve water, take navy showers or use Epic wipes. I have those in my Amazon store. They're awesome. The only time there would be an exception to buying bottled water IMO is you're in a situation where you'll run out of water and you won'y have city water to refill. Also I was wondering why not install the water softener inside the wet bay. Can it be installed horizontally or must it be standing up right? If not that's might be why not in the wet bay. Also what are the Quick connect fittings you actually have versus what you linked due to Covid-19 manufacturing delays? Couldn't you also put a meter somewhere in the system to meter your water usage to possibly extend the time between recharging the systems since that can be expensive over time? Thank you in advance.

Ok I'll try to answer these questions. 1) I did not see a link to your remote temperature monitoring system. I'm not sure what you're referring to here. Please clarify and I'll try help with that 2) Also I was wondering why not install the water softener inside the wet bay. Because we didn't have the room but even if we did we didn't want to take up the room or carry that extra weight that would count against our CCC. We just carry it our tow car behind the front seat. 3) Can it be installed horizontally or must it be standing up right? NO. It has to be upright. 4) Also what are the Quick connect fittings you actually have versus what you linked due to Covid-19 manufacturing delays? The ones we originally purchased are no longer available but the ones I linked to are good alternatives. 5) Couldn't you also put a meter somewhere in the system to meter your water usage to possibly extend the time between recharging the systems since that can be expensive over time? No. Besides there's no need to monitor your water usage to know when you need to recharge the water softener. And it's not expensive at all. Quite cheap actually. A simple test strip to test your water at any faucet will tell the story. To recharge the water softener only costs about $1.50 every 3 months. If you're interested I have a complete video coming out in about 3 weeks that goes thru the easy recharging process so stay tuned for that. thx Daniel for your questions. Hope this helps. 👍

Maybe the smaller one of the on-the-go would work? Please let me know your thoughts I cannot have the water softener outside of the motorhome in below freezing temperatures. Thanks Martin for your informative and entertaining video(s). A question about the order of your filtration and water softener set up. Because our DP’s dual filter set up is not accessible from the wet bay, we would need to arrange the set up a bit differently. In our case from the site water supply the order would be: regulator, sediment filter, water softener, dual stage filtration and on to the fresh water tank and plumbing. We have reversed the dual filters and water softener in our case and wonder if you think this is a problem or is acceptable? Appreciate your opinion and any comments.
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 3 жыл бұрын
It's always better to have all your filtration come BEFORE your water softener. The way you have it now your water is only going through one sedi filter. Sedi filters-as I'm sure you know-do not filter out the smaller particles and therefore are going to get into your water softener. Acceptable? If I was in your situation, I would re-plumb that so all 3 filters come before the water softener. That may include moving your current 2 stage filter bank to the wet bay where it is accessible and then run one new line to where it goes into the coach. I'm confident you can figure out a way to make that happen in your situation. Good, safe water IMO is to important to take short cuts on. In case you haven't seen this video yet, you might want to watch this one too. It covers this same subject but may give you some ideas on what you could do. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2W9oGuMoNuba9E Thanks for your question Rollin. Glad to help. 👍

@RVstreet 2 жыл бұрын
Hummmm......I'm not sure I totally understand your dilemma but I'll give it a try. Something isn't right that I'm following. So....how could you have 40-45psi with the main spigot closed. I'm confused here. You have to have the spigot ON to achieve any pressure. Next....once you have the regulator hooked up, then do you have water filters from there and then the hose goes to the RV? I highly doubt the regulator isn't working properly. Also what model of regulator did you get from my store? There's something in your explanation that's not making sense. It sounds like maybe you have the RV intake water valve turned to-tank fill-instead of Normal. Therefore when you turn ON the water at the spigot you show "0" psi. Try to reword your situation better OR hit me up on FB messenger and you could attach a couple of photos too, to help me understand what's going on.

I really liked all 3 parts of ‘must haves’ series. I especially like the idea of a portable softener. Thank you. I am picking up my new Oliver Travel Trailer in 4 months and will be living in it full time on my farm in Canada or travelling. It’s stated that your filtration system eliminates the need to buy and carry bottled drinking water. The Berkeley water filtration system does the same thing using gravity to pull any water through two carbon filters (overtime) to provide filtered purified good tasting drinking water. The Berkeley system is considered one if not THE best system. Would you know how your filtration compares? Do you drink your water? Some homes with softeners have a bypass to drinking water dispenser to eliminate the exposure to the saltiness from the softener. It appears that you do not have any bypass. Any comments on your filters or the bypass?
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 4 жыл бұрын
Ya, we used to have a Berkeley water filtration system and it now lives in our storage shed. Our set up that we have now and have been using for 4yrs. gives us triple filtered water and softened water. It's not only safe, good tasting, drinking water but protects the whole RV as well. And yes we drink our water and we use this system to also fill our fresh water tank. There is NO taste of salt with a system like this. Folks who do not have a water softener with their RV-especially full times-IMO are flirting with many, many problems.

Thank you Brian for your kind words... On a computer, right under each video you’ll see SHOW MORE….click that, scroll down and there is additional info there along with links to purchase what I used and showed in the video. If you’re on a Smart Phone or a Tablet there’s an arrow under the video to the right, click that arrow and scroll down and the links are down there. I will say that these quick connects go fast like a lot of what we recommend because it's the best. We would appreciate it so much if you would check back by using our links once a week or so and when they do come back in, order them immediately. Buying any gear from our links is a great way to say “thank you” and supports our channel because we get a small commission and that helps us retired folks. I bet you're really excited about getting your RV. What kind are you looking to get?

@@RVstreet Thanks for the short computer lesson. I was looking under the actual video rather than under the text of the video...duh. Not surprised these quick connects are sold out given the number of followers you have. We'll just keep checking and make sure to purchase them through your link. We did about 3 months of self-education to determine what type of RV we wanted and then another 6 months of learning about all the travel trailers that fell within our parameters. We finally decided on a Rockwood Ultralite for 2 reasons - the primary being the extensive use of aluminum extrusions rather than wood as the supports for the flooring & roof as well as cabinet and furniture frames. The 2nd reason was the list of standard features they include such as Good Year Endurance tires, tire monitoring system, larger oven and microwave and 50 amp service which were options in most of the other brand we were considering. I'm not foolish enough to think we aren't paying for these in the base price, but some of these weren't even offered as an option on others. Really liked the Grand Design Imagine line, but couldn't get a 2nd A/C or power stabilizer jacks as an option...go figure. Bottom line - I guess there really is no "bad" RV - just that there's the one that fits your needs better than the others. Just took time to weed through what we didn't want. So thanks again, stay well and keep up the great work. Looking forward to joining you in retirement in a few months.

@@briangrammer882 You did good getting through the No's to get to the Yes's. What model are you getting? 50amp was a smart move so you can have 2 AC's. You'll need those especially when you travel down south. If you haven't ordered it yet let me make 2 more suggestions if they offer them: 1) Pay the extra for full body paint 2) If you can upgrade your microwave to a microwave/convection oven you'll love that feature too.

@@RVstreet Excellent suggestions - thank you much. Not sure they offer either and sure our salesman is going love hearing from me AGAIN, but that's what he gets paid for - P.I.T.A's like me that want to get what I'm paying for. We ordered a Rockwood Ultralite 2612WS which they discontinued for next year because it wasn't selling that well. They actually weren't taking any more orders for it, but I contacted the plant directly myself back in September and the sales manager agreed to do it if we ordered quickly. We wanted 2 entrance/exit doors for safety reasons (both have MorRyde stairs and friction doors which are also standard Rockwood features). The only other U.L. model with 2 doors in the weight/length range we wanted had a real nice floorplan, but a tiny bathroom - something I won't settle for. Sure hope to cross paths with you guys down the road

Hi guys 👋🏼! We just bought our first used new travel trailer. We just did our first disinfect/sanitize of our potable water system. My question is, how do I drain & store our blue water filter after we fill our fresh water tank? We aren’t living in the trailer full time, so we need to be able to store it so it doesn’t grow gunk between fill ups. Thanks in advance!
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 4 жыл бұрын
Well those blue inline Camco filters really aren't made to store for long periods of time. But those filters come with two plastic covers-one on each end-when you buy them new. Keep those caps. Then when you're done using it-make a very diluted bleach water-put a little bit in the filter, put the caps back on both ends and store it in the wet bay. Try to keep it in a cool area and away from sunlight. You might get some storage time out of it where it won't dry out or grow bacteria. Once you bring it back out to use again and hook it up to your hose and the water spigot....be sure to turn on the water and rinse it out for about 10-20 seconds first BEFORE you hook it up to the RV. 👍

Good question. To heavy? Well that depends on each individual. I wanted to permanently mount our softener in one of our bays but it just wasn't feasible for several reasons. Besides, I didn't want to add that extra weight to our GVWR and take away some of our CCC. For us, carrying it our toad isn't a big deal. Quick question, as I know you have high standards and will do it right. How did you mount the dual filter bracket in your wet bay? Were you able to get behind the panel and use a washer, lock washer and nut to secure the mounting bolts? Or did you just use screws? Any lessons learned? I've looked on the Water Filter Store but didn't see any installation instructions or videos, and I'm out of town and away from my coach right now but am heading out on a trip soon after I get back so want to be prepared to get on it. Thanks, Dan

I took the dual filter unit and mounting bracket and placed it by hand up on the metal panel to make sure everything was placed right to allow my entry hose on the right and the exit hose on the left was clear of everything and then marked my holes. Drilled and mounted the plate with stainless bolts, flat washers, lock washers and nuts. Then just reached in behind the bracket put a wrench on the nut and tightened it up. Screws would NOT of been secured enough. BTW...thank you so much for using my Amazon Store you and YOUR WIFE will be happy you get your rig set up right from the beginning 🙏
