The song is great. However, I have a confusion: Why "We're calling on the angels of heaven"? I don't understand the theology here. Why angels?

We are praying for the covering and protection that God provides through angels. Angels are not the focal point, more so our God in heaven who can provide covering through them. Hope that helps!

@@TheElimArrival This song is a masterpiece, I really love it. And I see what you are saying. The song starts like this: - We're calling on the angels of heaven. - We're calling on the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) - We're calling on the spirit of Jesus (Holy Spirit) - We're calling on the Great I AM (the Father) ... and then we hear in the song: "Set us free" - "Set us free, from all iniquity" - to me, the way I understand from the song, angels also are involved in this work of setting us free from iniquity (which is huge, is the central work of Jesus). The confusion is that, the way you integrated the angels, indicates that they also are involved in setting us free from iniquity, but this is only the Work of God (Father-Son-Holy Spirit). Only the blood of the Lamb can set us free, angels have no part here, in terms of the work of salvation itself that belongs to Jesus (angels are only servants). When I heard mentioned the angels, and by the fact that you singing: "set us free" which, again, the central work of Jesus, and when I first heard the song, I was like: "hmmmm... I really like this song, but not sure about the theology here." I'm having quite a hard time to make the theological connection here. I know that God sends His angels, but the foundational theology we have is the Scripture, and I don't find not even 1 verse that someone prayed to angels, or at least we should. Yes, you can ask God to send angels to protect you, but the Scripture does not teaches us that we should call on them directly. The Scripture teaches us to pray to the Father in the name of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit. Please, don't take this as an attack, it's not. I'm just pointing up the confusion. A song should have strong theological roots and biblical truth, especially for the unsaved, who don't really know God's act of salvation through Jesus alone. Having angels involved in "setting us free", is a theological error. I think we should be very careful, especially in this era where spiritualism and praying to angels exploded, lately. .

@@alexanderstephen1567 I share your concern. You articulated well what I was thinking when I first heard the opening lines to this song.
