The gist is "Stop procrastinating, and stop living in fear of failing". Seth just articulates it in a way that people need to hear it - But hearing it still doesn't make change happen... you just need to act. Think less, do more...

I loved this presentation until he talked about Lucy and planting "better" corn. This is an example of what we must guard against. Perhaps this purchased corn really is better. Unarguably, it is more profitable. It made a lot of money for Lucy and her family. But here's the rub. Since she had to buy it, and he specifically mentioned not saving it for the next year, we can assume it is GMO. What we know about nature is that it is very efficient at spreading life. Artificially created life is often superior at taking over and destroying the original plants which we lose for all time. Yes, eventually the weeds will adapt and come back stronger. Maybe we'll be fortunate and in the long run, a few of the natural plant will survive and also come back stronger and spread and we'll have something just as healthy as before. But in the short term, Lucy's profitable crop may contaminate her neighbor's crops. They don't want this new seed, but there is nothing the can do to stop it. They can't afford to put a dome over their entire property to create an ecosystem with it's own pollinators - just to keep out this new seed. So what happens? The owner of this new patented seed can sue them. And in many cases burden them with such a huge cost of trying to defend themselves or pay for contamination by seed they never wanted in the first place that they lose their land which is everything that allows them to survive. When we make decisions, they need to consider the long term effects - not just the short term profits. And that is why the multi-national corporate model must be changed. It doesn't care what it does to the environment or to the people; all it cares about is maximum profit for the few at the expense of everyone else. Many people admire you, Seth. This is a brilliant keynote. But do you really want to be responsible for helping to destroy nature and our health along with it?
@sethtaylor75198 жыл бұрын
Yeah what an asshole... if he never did this keynote that would never be happening. How irresponsible of him! 7_

Most popular sock puppet of all time? I think Kermit would disagree. Strong teenage girl = Katniss Everdeen. Did he research his speech at all?
@marykindrick54328 жыл бұрын
+Jason Simpson Kermit isn't a sock puppet, and neither of those points were relevant to the content of the talk at all.
@jasonsimpson13978 жыл бұрын
Mary Kindrick Kermit started as a sock puppet and he referenced a strong teenage girl having not been mainstream recently. You can't make shit up and build a speech from it. He used those to make points, so they are extremely relevant. .

I lost interest when he described selling Monsanto corn to vulnerable farmers in Kenya. Does he even know how much damage he's doing to their economy? The levels of corruption that ensure those farmers will end up in debt to the company in 5 years or less? What an ass.
