Jim Carrey was lucky that Lorne turned him down because his humor would not have been as well embraced at SNL as it was on In Living Color. I can guarantee you his ideas would have never made it past Lorne's desk.

At this point I think SNL knows people who have the potential to be "too big" for the show, and don't pick them up because they wouldn't fit well in an ensemble cast. I remember watching SNL back in the late 90's in my teens and at first Chris Kattan was huge while Will Ferrell was like his side kick and no one really liked him (I personally thought he was annoying/mildly unfunny though I did like his James Lipton and of course Celebrity Jeopardy...although I thought what really made that were the other cast members/hosts and certainly Darrell Hammond). Eventually that totally reversed, but it wasn't until Old School that Will Ferrell really took off. That was when people who didn't like him on SNL (including me mostly) were like "Ok, he's funny". He's still not my favorite, but I never liked Kattan that much either despite his popularity (I did like him better than Will on the whole on SNL though: Mango and Suel Forrester were great characters--Mr. Peepers was not imo--and his Antonio Banderas and Andy Dick were perfect). I have heard that Kattan and Oteri are..."difficult" fwiw. That could be part of what happened to their careers.

My most troubling person who didnt go on to do amazing things IS Kris Katan sp. there has to be a reason. but he didnt go on to anything major. I adore Cheri and it was great to see her shown at the CNN Newyears show with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen Im hoping it will reboot her career. but correct me if Im wrong I Just havent seen her in anything but the gram. :)

Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell didn't make it too.

For me Carell wouldn't fit it on SNL... even on the Daily Show he was not very into it, his artistic path was coherent... Colbert on the other hand is just a poor carbon copy of Jon Stewart... Jon was reasonable on his comedy/opinion bit, Colbert is just butthurt about... I don't know, Trump, his own life, the fact that he is the most weird Christian on Earth... there's some deep issues with him, honestly.

Sirlene Andria nah, Colbert was great in a few early Comedy Central shows, exit 57 and strangers with candy. Politics aside of course. Totally agree on Carell, he’s not a character guy.

@@redacted2275 lol. Stewart could, in no way, do what Stephen Colbert did for nine years on _The Colbert Report._ Playing a well-intentioned but idiotic conservative put people off guard for quite a while. Also, as a improv comic he could morph into anyone which explains his role on _Strangers with Candy._ He even had a guest spot on _Law and Order._ As far as Trump goes, well, *everyone* has to cover the bloated orange criminal now that he has the nuclear codes. His monologue on _The Late Show with Stephen Colbert_ is second to none. Now, if you want to shit on somebody it should be Jimmy Fallon because his show sucks. 🤣
