I love how Seth Rogen can somehow make a talk about Alzheimer's hilarious without being disrespectful of it.

I don't know why, but when a comedian gets somber and honest about something important like Alzheimer's it really makes you realize how real that disease is. My grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's for a decade before passing away in 2008. It took a huge emotional and financial toll not only on her and my grandfather but on my mother, uncle, and aunt as well. I asked my mother why she did not cry at grandma's funeral. She paused and quietly responded "Because I lost her years ago." There needs to be a cure for this. Period.

I am sorry about your grandmother, Crazyriders83. My mom has this horrible disease and I am beginning to see what your mom meant when she said she lost her mom years ago. It is truly heartwrenching...God bless all you caregivers and victims of all these diseases and I pray they find a cure, QUICK!

I am so glad that Seth Rogan is advocating for Alzheimer's awareness... I am a CNA and have worked in an Alzheimer's unit... and at times I have felt that Alzheimer's is a disease worse than death. People affected by Alzheimer's disease have been robbed of the rich experiences and memories of life.
@ashsquid8884

I am a CNA as well and I completely agree. It's so hard when family comes in and the person has no idea who they are. You can see the sadness in their eyes and all they can do is smile and talk to them as if they are just meeting. I love the people I care for, but sometimes I get that "I wish you could pass on and be with your family" mentality. It's hard.

+Ashley Squid Or worse yet, they're stuck inside of awful memories that they can't shake and they're constantly angry, sad or just upset in general. And then of course, not even all the ativan in the world will help calm them down. I, too, have gotten to the point where I feel it would be better for a patient with Alzheimer's to pass on, rather than see them suffer through another day of paranoid confusion.

Hollywood people are very important. Senate committee meetings are half empty all the times but when an elected official has something more pressing to do than listen to Rogen's important emotional story about his mother in law it's a damn outrage! Alzheimer's is a very very important issue. Up there with breast cancer and gun violence. My own grandfather had Alzheimer's for many years. But Rogen isn't a scientist. He's not a doctor. Fuck this privileged 1%er who throws a tantrum because Washington doesn't grind to a halt to listen to his family anecdotes.
@Michael_MW
@Michael_MW 11 жыл бұрын
shalom First of all, Rogen is NOT a 1%er. No actor in the history of our race has ever been a member of "the 1%". 2nd of all, why all the rage? Yea you are right, he isn't "qualified" per-say. But he is using the one thing he has, his fame, to try to help make a difference. He isn't throwing a tantrum... Did you watch the same video as the rest of us? Hell, he has done more here by speaking up then most of us Americans will ever do for Alzheimer's, we should encourage that, no matter how "unqualified" he is.

The "younger generation", of which I am a part, likes him because he is a great comedic actor. "We" also like him because he is using his celebrity status as a force for good to help educate young and old alike about Alzheimer's disease. Younger people are more likely to actually HEAR the message if it comes from a peer.

Please don't be afraid to reach out to services and support for YOU. Like Seth said, a lot of people won't because of the stigma and elusive services. There's a forum online called Elder Care Online. They're great people.

Thanks for the kind words Valerie Sherman. I don't live in the same state as my father anymore, so every visit home I hold my breath as we pull up to the nursing home he's in, wondering what is on the other side of the door. The thing that to me the most is some days he's so normal and complains that he doesn't understand why he needs to be in a home (he's also bipolar and was starting to refuse to take his meds, which was putting my mom at a huge risk of getting injured). I will be looking into this Elder Care forum you speak of. Thanks again!

For those who don't know Obama did fund research for the brain last year. Not sure if it includes funding for alzheimer's or not. My mom was diagnosed with early onset of alzheimer's at the age of 53 she is now 63 as of 2014. She eats via feeding tube, venerable to getting sick easy, she can't walk, talk, be left alone, sleep alone, or do anything for her self anymore. Me and my Dad do everything for her without caregivers. For Seth and Lauren I feel your pain personally on so many levels. I haven't slept in my own bed in my own room for 4 days straight in 10 years. For anyone whos dealing with my same situation the best advice I can say is to keep them laughing and smiling as much as you can! My Mom has surpassed all her doctors expectations. Seeing my Mom laugh and smile means I have something to fight for.

I applaud your strength and drive in your situation. Personally I have never experienced alzheimer's via relative/loved one, except my parents have worked in a home where a patient with alzheimer's had resided. I couldn't imagine the amount of pain from going through that let alone for 10 years. To your family, keep fighting. :)

Probably one of the most heartbreaking things to see the ones you love slowly forget how to do things. Simple tasks become an impossible obstacle. They slowly lose memory of all their friends and family and barely remember yourself. It takes their soul and you can't help but cry because they can't remember the memories they've created their whole life.

I know that feeling. At 10-years-old, I was too young to understand that my memere had a disease that caused her to forget the people and places from her life. I have a horrifying memory of running up to her to give her a big hug, shouting "Memere! Memere!" to which she replied "Aww, what a nice little girl" and patted me on the head. It was so traumatizing for me. Since then I have lost 4 more family members to the disease, and fear that some day it might take over me, too. There is so much more that needs to be done. I hope someone like Seth Rogen gets people's attention, and things can start to happen.

Seth Rogen I love you. Just last year my uncle passed away from alzheimer's, he was in his sixties. One of the funniest, most athletic, intelligent guys I had ever known. The fact that Seth Rogen knows just what it is like to watch this degrading and awful disease unfold in a loved one just adds to the great support we need to help fight back. Alzheimer's needs a lot more attention than it gets. Obviously we as a country aren't in the greatest shape right now to afford loads of research, but just getting people to know the seriousness of the disease is a giant step forward and donations for research are always awesome :)

I'm personally glad someone is using their celebrity to raise awareness about the true nature of this disease. I had to watch as ever so slowly as one of the strongest, most dignified, well respected man I had ever known was taken by this disease. It started with the forgetfulness and far off looks to becoming violent with loved ones, and eventually to forgetting how to eat, speak, or even walk. This was a man who guided me when I was growing up. He was unbelievably hard working and the most sincere person I knew. At the end it was a huge relief when he finally passed. We remember him now as he was before the disease and not what it turned him into, but the amount of damage that was done emotionally to all of us who were involved in his care and especially his wife cannot be understated. It's one of those diseases that at a certain point you honestly hope that your loved one will not wake up the next day. Only people who have been through this will understand what I mean.

My grandma had Alzheimer's. She passed last week at 85 years old and has been in a hospital home for like 5 years, its a really unforgiving disease. The worst kind of diseases are the ones that alter your mind, I think. As this disease progresses it goes beyond forget things such as your keys, where you live, your name, your family, and it gets to a point where the part of the brain that tells your body to breathe also shuts down, thats when she passed away. Its a good relief knowing that she is not suffering any longer with this disease though. - Isaiah 33:24

Great job Seth. As a guy who has a mom in an Alzheimer's unit with end stages of early onset, I applaud you. My mom was also in her mid 50's when it started. She is just now getting ready to turn 62. My father could not endure taking care of her at home anymore as it is debilitating to the care giver as well. He had a decent pension and insurance which is the only reason it did not destroy them financially. As you said, I don't know what they would have done if he didn't. And if it wasn't for medicaid, they would not be able to afford the care she is receiving now. Thanks for being a voice for Alzheimer's and the devastation this disease causes.

Matter of perspective. All you have to do is listen to the ramblings of accusations, followed by denials, coverups, redirections, & outright refusal to answer honestly. I bet some circus' have gone out of business because lack of skilled labor. So many are in DC.

So why is everyone hating on Seth Rogen???? Just because hes a comedian on screen doesnt mean he acts that way in real life. Other Comedians have been on the senate floor and have added comedy to their bits as well. Hates gonna hate i guess.

I lost my mother, Yvonne, to this horrendous disease. It ultimately ended up with her on life-support for 5 1/2 years as my sister and I took care of her at home. She never saw the inside of a nursing home during this period. It was a long hard and Cold cold at times to care for her and the support from the medical community and insurance companies such as Medicare was terrible at times. Please, don't get me wrong as we met many great people who were outstanding in assisting us while caring for her in one way or another but it was far and few between. It's always great to get support from the community at large. It's also great for the likes of like Seth Rogen and other people with that type of popularity to come out and speak about this because caring for a loved one at home is already difficult and the Alzheimer's disease is even more difficult because it takes away everything while it consumes you.

Well, it's so wonderful to see that an actor can sit in and make jokes before the Senate and it gets 6.8 million views, but no one bothers to view important discussions. I wonder if Seth Rogen is capable of having a serious discussion.

Never imagined I'd comment on a C-SPAN video and it's too bad they aired this on C-SPAN 3. My cable company requires an additional $10 per month to subscribe to the "Crazy Government Crap" Tier to watch it but I think 'C-SPAN on demand' is coming out soon so I'll have to watch it there. Without sounding condescending, well done Seth and thank you. One more reason to appreciate you and everything you do.

Bravo Mr. Rogen. Well said. My Grandfather, who might not have raised me, but taught me all the things I now know as a man (working hard, being honest ect) either does not know who I am, or thinks that I am still in High School which I haven't been since 06. This disease is unimaginably cruel, it kills me, I can't imagine what it must be like for him. He can tell me stories about the first day he stepped out onto Pearl Harbor in 1942 once he joined the Navy after the attack, or the first day he went to work for the company he retired from. But he can't tell you what happened yesterday, and sometimes can't recognize his children, the eldest being born in 1947. We do need to do much more for these people, most of whom are of the "greatest generation" the very least we could do for them in return for all they gave for our future.
