Joy - I am not sure I would try any of these restaurants because I did not get a sense of the food from what you said on camera. Would you use more descriptive words in the future? For example, when describing the squirrel fish you mentioned that the fish from that particular restaurant was not as big as you would see from your hometown(?) and sort of sweet and sour. You went on about how you thought they created the box-like patterns on the skin/flesh of the fish instead of describing the taste. I would have gone to that restaurant in a heartbeat if you had said something like, "The skin on the fish is still amazingly crisp with the sauce on top. It looks like a sweet and sour sauce but it is so much more than that. The flesh flakes easily, is tender and melts in your mouth. The sauce perfectly balances the fish and my taste buds are tingling from the pops of sweet from the corn and tang from the tomatoes and vinegar (I don't remember if there were tomatoes or vinegar just an example)". You would use your own words, of course, but if I had heard that I would have been on the next Grab to that restaurant. Heck! I would have loved to hear that you loved crunching on the tail or fins or collar bone. You mentioned that you would come back for a particular soup in that restaurant as well but I don't really recall why you said you would come back, just that you would come back as you drank the soup. I felt a little let down from the lack of explanation. When you tell a story ask yourself what it is you are talking about or trying to convey, how did their history shape their food, how do they feel about their food, why and how did you feel about their food - all this at a minumum. Anything else would be a bonus. A staccato style between bites would also work - hot, spicy, creamy, tangy, gritty, crispy, crunchy, sweet, etc. Liberal use of a thesaurus may be helpful especially if you find yourself using the same words over and over again. I know I do. Good luck on your next video!

Thanks for your feedback! I watched through the whole video and do think that it’s a combination of editing and my use of descriptors when tasting the food. As you may have noticed, some parts are cut shorter due to time constraint within this short video where we have to try many dishes at once and where we’re also trying to explain the background and culture of the dishes we’re trying! I hear you though, so will feedback to the team. Regardless, you should still give the restaurants a try. ☺️

Thank you, Joy, for responding. I will give the restaurants a try the next time I am in SG. I do understand having to keep things short - I recently participated in a 6-word story zine challenge. I want you to be empowered to do what you wish and that means having knowledge and hunger for it. Wishing you the best going forward.
