I know a lot of people are complaining about the joking and the less than serious mood, but I love it! This is how normal people actually play games. It's not the fanciful full on voice acting Shakespearean drama that a lot of podcasts and live play try to portray. I love the camaraderie and the easy way everyone interacts. It seems a lot more natural. As for breaking immersion, I guess I've just always been that person who's always known I've been playing a game or watching someone play a game regardless of how serious or into it I get.
@SSkorkowsky
@SSkorkowsky 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the majority of the complaints about the laughing and joking come from people who have more experience reading and watching RPGs than they have playing RPGs. To them, it's the theory of games (Horror games must always be serious and intense to achieve drama.) or they consider it like television. Sure, we got goofy and laughed a lot. Not all my games are that silly. Some have gotten quite intense and serious. But the great majority are spent laughing our butts off. But even with all the joking, we stayed focused on solving the mystery. Combined, both videos come to about 5 hours and 15 minutes. Once you take out introductions, the recap, and closing chit-chat/wind-down, we did it in 4 hours and 15 minutes. We got a lot done in that time. There were a lot of scenes. I've played in many games that would have taken twice as long to do that.

As someone who basically have no experience with playing pen'n'paper RPGs I indeed expected playing a RPG, let alone a horror RPG, to be much more serious. But the chemistry among the players was so great and they were so funny that I did not mind their somewhat goofy attitude at all.
@skyblazeeterno
@skyblazeeterno 11 ай бұрын
I actually do not see the joking as a problem as everyone was doing it. I find it a bit more off putting when only one person is being the joker while everyone else is serious though even that has its place
@Bearwiffa228
@Bearwiffa228 9 ай бұрын
Comedy is natural in horror games/movies. It releases the tension and grounds the game in reality as long as the horror aspects are taken seriously and the joking stops when shit gets serious or hits the fan.

Check out 'The Lovecraft Tapes' podcast. The style and tone is very similar. It's not as well produced as this (at least to start with), but like this it doesn't take itself too seriously and has fantastic role playing and chemistry between the players and GM. As you say it reminds me far more of your average game than being sculpted and scripted and packaged for consumption to the extent it's more a production piece than a real game. I think this is why this is one of the few (along with this video) actual plays I can actually listen to.

@@cambionblack7939 Actually I've got the one with Keye Luke playing right now. The yellowface and sterotyping is deeply offensive from a 2022 perspective, but if you can power through it the acting's actually decent, there's some good comedy between Keye Luke and the bumbling kleptomaniac sidekick guy, and the murder plot seems pretty solid so far. Always liked seeing Luke on screen, especially when he was working alongside Mantan Moreland. Both of them were grossly underappreciated actors back in the day, but that's 1940s Hollywood for you. What was the name of that old Magic card that looked like it had Werther's candies on it? Greed, maybe? I remember everyone shouting "Werthers!" every time it got played...

You guys are all amazing. As someone who's had bad experience roleplaying, I can't tell how happy it makes me to see you all having so much fun, portraying these quirky characters and all the while respecting one another to the fullest extent, not associating the quirkiness of the characters with each other. Props for the great quality mics and cameras as well! All of your performance brings a smile to my face, I keep pausing and going back to watch everyone's reactions when something wacky happened. So many priceless moments. Apart from Seth, it was my first time seeing all of you and Skid immediately endeared himself to me, not just with his mannerisms and roleplaying style, but the fact that his voice is eerily similar to one of my favourite video game voice actors, Stephen Russell (Thief series, Dishonored 2).

The glass cannon guys are phenomenal. A lot of their content is like how this session went. They have gone on to say numerous times that their playstyle is basically how you play with your friends. Lots of laughter and had to be there moments

As others have already said: this is honestly the BEST tabletop roleplay I've probably ever had the distinct pleasure of witnessing! No personal baggage, no weirdo garbage, just honest roleplaying by very VERY talented guys. Skid Maher and Troy Lavalee could (and should) do professional voice work, but all of the guys just mesh together so we'll. They don't try to compete for personal gain or go on an ego trip- they just have fun. Truly a fantastic experience and I really really REALLY HOPE they do this on a regular basis with this same group. I went to Glass Cannon's channel and could not find these guys, but did find more of the same old woke stuff that has crept in and ruined so many other games... However, I could follow these guys anywhere!

usually I cannot stand watching other people play RPGs, something about it just triggers second hand embarrassment for me. This, however, was just great and I had a blast watching it the whole time. Thanks for the great entertainment!

I think it's about the chemistry and people feeling comfortable, both with themselves and the group. Sometimes it feels like you're watching a group of high-schoolers trying to seem cool to each other.

@@velentr Not only that, but you need general "podcast skills". People who arent used to being on camera will both talk over each other and leave a lot of dead space. Timing in an art form and requires practice to get consistently

Hope to see more of you guys playing together! I’d love to see a series using classic CoC with you running the game for the Glass guys! Looking forward to part 2. Long live Scott Parker (nah, not feeling positive about that)!

A truly special night, cannot wait for part 2 tonight. Grant getting Covid was a blessing in disguise. Seth, your voice is as rich as dark velvety chocolate and you supply a wonderful mix of smart and calculated role playing, in depth knowledge of the system, while also being appropriately silly. Truly a class act, and thank you for gracing the Naish with your presence. You won many of us over and converted a lot of fans. Hope to see you around more in the future! (Also, your community seems amazing too =D)
