As an indian, I can say that we have problem but even poor people in India gets benefits such as monthly quota of almost free ration per person in a family and medicine which is very cheap compare to other countries. Per capita income should not be a benchmark to see india because some countries who has more per capita income is already on verge of collapse such as Sri Lanka or even south Africa. In india even prices of vegetables are much lower than china and rent is also very low compared to China.

India financial market is in turbulence, better wait out the Adani Group scandal to filter out before investment.
India has had 100s of languages and caste system for over 2000 years, but it has been poor only in the recent past aided by British and European colonisation. India was extremely rich until the 18th century when everyone flocked down to India for their livelihood. China might be rich today, but how was China 40 years ago? One should not forget their roots!

@无畏 I agree. Sometimes I too feel India is too democratic for its own good because development happens slower compared to countries like China. But, if you look at India's population, many of us Indians speak different languages, eat different food, wear different dresses and follow distinct culture even though underlying religion is Hinduism across India. India/Indians want to preserve each of the individual languages and cultures. Like China accepted Mandarin, all Indians would not accept a common language even though Hindi is widely used across India. There are also other religions such as Islam, about 200 million muslims live in India. The only way for India to work cohesively and make everyone feel 'Indian' is by practising democracy. Otherwise India would break apart. In 1970's, there was a prime minister called Indira Gandhi who followed an authoritarian regime discarding elections and discarding religious sentiments. Indians didn't like her one bit and her regime did not help India progress a lot. Even though the progress is slower, India is steadily pulling millions out of poverty every year. Even in my case, my grandparents were poor but they educated their children. My parents were graduates and middle class, and today I feel I belong to upper middle class category. India was not even among top 10 economies 10 years back. Today, India is the 5th largest economy. In the next 10 years, India will be the 3rd largest economy. While India has many problems, I believe India will turn its tide and see a prosperous future for its citizens in the coming decades.

@qaztyujh These are small countries. GDP of Mumbai (a city in India) alone is bigger than Vietnam and Malaysia. Do you think India is living in Stone Age?
