lemme set the scene, A sexy Brazilian samurai man ,and a hot American cybernetic ninja boy on a big motorcycle stop at the side of an empty highway at sunset, for an honourable duel. they stand roughly twenty feet appart, in the grass to the side of the road, blazing in the orange light, they draw their swords, make eye contact and both smile, as this song kicks in. and the fight begins. my suggestion from MGR-R is called "i'm my own master now" the theme of Wolf. the kind of song that turns a hum in your kitchen into an actual growl. the entire game's OST is genuinly a 9/10 across the board, and i would suggest playing MGR-R because it is a very short game.

This theme plays as Jet Stream Sam's boss theme, the music in MGR tends to perform as exposition for the characters, as there's so little time spent fleshing them out through the game itself. The music tells you their dreams, their hopes, their motivations. Sam comes off as a cocky, gunsure swordsman and an antagonist to Raiden, besting Raiden effortlessly at the start of the game with the instrumental version. Then we get the lyrics later in a rematch, and realise that Sam doesn't know who he is anymore, he has deep doubts about his role in things, and chose to bet everything on the fight. If he wins, he'll accept his place in the carnage. But if he loses, he'll know he was wrong, and that Raiden can set things right.

The thing that makes the lyric part of the music of MGR is that each boss is supposed to be effectively singing their boss music. Jetstream Sam, the boss who’s the music goes to, is a master of Iaijutsu, or the “Quick Draw” technique. So it makes sense that his music is fast, furious, and doesn’t give you time to breathe, since that’s how the fight feels to play.

So Metal Gear Rising's boss tracks are fun, because there's lots of variations in them and both an instrumental and lyrics version. The game will time specific parts of the instrumental portions for different attacks and beats in the fight and the climax will then always bring in the lyrics version. The most famous of its tracks is probably Rules of Nature but this one is always good too.

The song and the situation really makes this work so beautifully. There is no greater rivalry than that of Raiden (the main protag) and Jetstream Sam. Jetstream Sam being a Brazilian national who grew up in a family who were taught by traditional Japanese sword masters the art of their craft and had taken this to heart, creating a family legacy of honor, competency, and skill to a legendary degree and hold their own to highest marks in operating with honor and swordsmanship. But this family gets tragically killed off by a drug cartel, leaving young Samuel Rodrigues lost and alone, with only the legacy of his family and his family's sword by his side. He continues to perfect his craft and decide to get into vigilantism and perform a one man war against the criminal underworld. Though, even his skill doesn't become good enough because the world becomes drastically improved via augmentations that improve the human condition and capabilities, so he has to compete by getting a suit to make him on par with cyber warriors and modify his family's sword to compete with materials being used for armor and weapon craft. He eventually meets one Senator Armstrong and fights him believing that he is a financier of cartels. He has grown cocky in his abilities, never finding an enemy to beat him, almost getting bored with it all, and starting to have his virtues slightly twisted into a "might makes right" mentality. Then...he gets absolutely floored and beaten by Armstrong, his worldview shattered and destroyed as his sword arm is cut off. In a single moment, his worldview is shattered and his self-assuredity and esteem is destroyed. It is easy that he gets wrapped up in Armstrong's plans as he does more and more despicable things as he grows to hate himself more and is trying to make himself stronger to forgive himself for his crushing defeat. Jack, Jack-The-Ripper, Raiden being born into a life of betrayals and hardship as a child soldier, learning that his adoptive father is the worst traitor to him personally, and has been trying to suppress his murderous instincts as the named Jack the Ripper (as he was quite the accomplished killer on the battlefield as a child). He makes up for this by joining a private security company, using his military and combat specialties to help spread peace to the world. Then comes Sam waltzing in and effortlessly chops him to pieces. Throughout the course of the game, Raiden succumbs more and more to his lust for bloodshed as he waxes philosophy and purpose with his enemies and learns from them more about himself in the grand concept of life, war, and purpose. Thinking this whole time he was fighting people who choose to be horrible, who choose to fight him, until once again Sam shows up and convinces Raiden into thinking that the men he has been killing this whole time are just men trying to provide for their families, their instincts of fear and pain nulled to almost nonexistence, that there truly was no choice in going against Raiden. But if the bad guys aren't stop, the biggest war ever devised would happen (plus they were also kidnapping and organ harvesting kids into becoming cyber child-soldiers which is a personal matter to our former child soldier who has gone through cyber combat training). Now the two meet in the desert, ready to fight. Raiden sees this as a means for revenge but Sam...Sam sees this differently. In Raiden, Sam sees himself before his fall, he says something that could even be better than him. He just needs to see for himself what this journey has done to Raiden, to see if Raiden has what it takes to do what Sam could not do, to beat Armstrong and save the world. The two will fight until only the strong remains, Raiden needs to save the world, Sam needs to redeem himself and test Raiden, and they both knows that this has gone too personal to be left alone. And so, despite them being kindred spirits, only one of them is destined to leave alive. And though they fight like samurai and ninjas, the location and situation is also like that of western cowboys...the emphasis on philosophical/personal clashing, the desert, the standoff. Even Sam's family sword is modified to where he can use a pistol trigger to multiply his strike force on his initial-draw-strike. A combination of the east and west, the rising and the fallen, the good and the evil, rivals to the end. The wind blows, the dust settles, the tumbleweed rolls between the two forces as they circle, all is quiet. And then, when blades first clang in the dance of strike and parry, the music of battle truly rages

The fun thing about Jetstream Sam (the character that this boss theme belongs to) is that he's portrayed with the traits of both a movie cowboy and a movie samurai at once. And this makes a lot of sense, given how similar both of those archetypes are, while Sam's writing also plays with the ways they're different. Speaking of, did you know that it's nothing new for westerns to be adaptations of samurai films and vice-versa? I'm not usually a fan of anime-ish structure and story but the music is why i don't mind MGRR's story and ridiculousness, it's not driven by the over the top plot, or over the top gameplay or over the top music, but all of them combined(though mostly the music, especially at the bossfights, especially with each of the songs telling a story relevant to the character we're fighting) And that's just fun.

Every boss theme has instrumental version and a vocal version, the vocals will kick in when the boss "Takes you seriously" which is usually when they are on the brink of death. Except for Sam, he starts with the lyrics at the beginning then losses them when he losses his sword, as he begins to have fun with jack. After he flips you around a couple of times he picks up the sword and the lyrics would kick back in.

Literally my favorite song. Alright I’ll sub

I think my favourite part about Sam is the fact he has barely any enhancements unlike most other characters you see, he's just a very skilled swordsman. He usually dodges more than parrying, and even with his disadvantage he can still kick your ass.

I see you like driving playlist, ok then, i have some recomendations to add to that, listen to all of the Need For Speed Most Wanted pursuit themes, mainly the first 3, and if you want, listen to the full soundtrack songs for the game, but im not sure if its copyrighted since its an old game

Nothing like a MGRR boss theme as the first reaction of the day to just JOLT you the fuck into reality. XD
@Reiveth2 жыл бұрын
Just so you know the composition for all the MGR songs is made specifically for gameplay, the instrumental part plays in first halves of boss fights and the vocals immediately kick in in the second half, usually it breaks immediately into the chorus and then the second verse and loops back around to the first and keeps going until you beat the fight with a perfectly timed cut off, on the ost release what they did is put the entire instrumental first, then the first verse, then chorus the second then dramatic cut so it sounds a bit disjointed.
