"This feels like... perseverance." That was exactly my thought when I played the game and that bit of the music came on. It definitely has a "the tide has turned on your favor" feeling to it.

7:16 The final fantasy prelude theme in there was just the icing on the cake. The feels can't be described. It's emotional, it's unexpected and it's damn beautifulL I can't even say if this falls under fan-service category as it just belongs so well to the song. What a piece.

Hellfire is one of my absolute favorite Final Fantasy tracks to date. The transition from intense to where you realize you're winning and then that little bit of piano when Shiva shows up hits me every time. People can say what they want about FFXV but the music is top tier. The final fantasy games recycle characters/concepts so you'll see them or hear their names in a lot of final fantasy titles.

This is why I say that Yoko Shimomura is one of the best composers in the business. There are so many little details in Hellfire that fit this boss battle and story so well. Makes me wish that I still played in an orchestra. I tend to play XV about once a year and I always drag this battle out for the music. I love how dark it is and how helpless it makes the fight feel during the first third. And I love the resolve into the third section where the tide starts to turn in the fight. Then with the piano at the end and Shiva comes in and essentially kills her husband because it's the only way, it's so bittersweet and I just love EVERYTHING about this piece. It's so fitting for the second to last boss battle and it just adds this weight to everything. Hellfire is also the reason why I destroyed a soundbar because I turned everything up so loud that it just died halfway through the next bit of the game. Though in the soundbar's defense it was old. But yes! I love how Shimomura uses leitmotifs! And XV is such an excellent example of it. The whole soundtrack is just littered with leitmotifs, and the more you listen to it the more depth you discover. I'm really excited for when I put in my next two requests because they'll also be pieces from XV and tie directly into one another. I hope you'll like them as much as you liked this piece! Also, fun fact! The logo art work that's displayed is just half of it! When you finish the game, the rest of it is revealed. It's also probably one of my favorite pieces of Yoshitaka Amano (the artist responsible for all the Final Fantasy logo art and he was also a character designer for the first six games!)

^ Not trying to bring down Shimomura but I want to give the credit where it's due. Yoshitaka Suzuki made this arrangement along with some others in FFXV. But you're absolutely right that Shimomura's leitmotifs are used here; used perfectly too.

Hellfire is probably one of my favourite songs in my favourite moments in this game. It's PEAK and plays through a three-phase battle nearing the end of the game. The protagonists face Ifrit, the Infernian. The God of Fire. The first phase is with him on his throne, everything around you being razed with hellfire. I think the second phase starts at 3:19, where he is forced to step off his throne and begin the fight in earnest. A giant comprised of fire, wielding a gigantic blazing sword. And the final phase is at 5:10, where his flames begin to burn the hottest. The party is battered and burnt, but Ifrit is on his last legs and he's going out with a bang. When the protagonists bring him to his knees, his flames douse. And Shiva, the Glacian, steps in at 6:43 to give the raging Infernian his final rest.
@vatonage15993 жыл бұрын
I never noticed it before but after watching your reaction, Hellfire does have a very good progression from desperately fighting the horned, towering god of fire in the beginning, to triumph as you begin to win and the third phase plays, then ending with a bit of a sad reprise as Shiva destroys her corrupted lover.

Ifrit just sitting there nonchalantly whilst literally making toast of you and your whole squad. Great fight. And then he gets up! And the fight still doesn't truly begin because 2 insane summons then arrive to lend their hand. Amazing sequence of events and the music matches the scenes. You really need to watch the Boss Fight in action because the music alone doesn't do it justice!

Thank you for reacting to Hellfire ! I knew it was coming, but still :D It's one of my favorite song from FFXV, and seeing your reaction is making me reconsider what I should request next on patreon :p But for real though, I wouldn't want to spoil anyone by going into too much details, but you were more or less spot on with the feel of the song throughout. From a fierce battle, to triumph, to sadness and peace. What brings you to this fight and what is after is quite an emotional journey (that, in form of a song, is more or less what Somnus makes you feel) but this is a bit of story on it's own. I don't know if my rambling made any sense, but if you read this Jesse, please play the game one day ! I said it on your Somnus reaction, but if the OST makes you feel like that, you'll most likely love it :) And if we have to request every single track so that you can't get any more requests, then we know what we have to do :p

The context for this song is pretty intense (incoming spoilers). The main character, Noctis, has just returned from a 10-year absence, wherein his three companions have stuck out protecting a dwindling population in a world of darkness and overwhelming demons. When he returns, Noctis and his friends return to the ruins of the kingdom's capital city they grew up in (of which Noctis was prince) in order for Noctis to complete a suicide ritual in order to banish the darkness forever. This track plays when they face the penultimate boss at the gates of the castle, Ifrit, in order to gain access to the throne room. Mind you, Ifrit is *extremely* Lucifer-coded in this game, unlike some of his other FF renditions, hence the track name and the feelings of hell and demons conjured by the music. The final part of the track plays when the battle is won, and Noctis summons Shiva, Ifrit's long-lost lover, to deliver a literal kiss of death and open the way for Noctis to do what he has to do. Personally, my favorite part of the song is the second phase (the part you described as feeling like perseverance); playing the game and only being able to half-listen to it, it sounded kind of swashbuckler-y--like I was sailing through a storm and fighting against impossible tides. During the first phase of the fight, Ifrit's sitting on a throne of flames and swatting you away as if you are just an annoyance to him. The fight takes a turn when you summon Bahamut, the god of blades, to force Ifrit into actual combat, and that's when the music shifts.

Ifrit's story in the background of the XV universe is a tragedy. He was the one who was friendliest to humanity at first and (Episode Ardyn spoilers) Ardyn falls to the darkness and later corrupts him

It tells what's happening on the battlefield: at the start it's hopeless, they can't see how they can overcome this; at 3:20 there's a spark of hope, maybe they can do it; at 5:10 it's clear they are going to win the fight; at 6:43 they have won, Shiva's here, hell is frozen.

The "resolve" you spoke about is literally what happens. It's a 2 phase boss, and the resolution in the soundtrack is supposed to give you a sense of accomplishment. When that resolve comes in, it's phase 2, but now it's more heroic and leans more towards hero than villain. Now you found a weakness in the enemy. ❤❤

Funny you should use the word 'hate'. Ifrit The Infernian (the boss you're fighting) is a god of fire that brought his flame to humankind out of kindness, but then felt betrayed by man's hubris, so he wanted to punish them, but was stopped (by men and other gods) and put to sleep. When he woke he was infected by a plague and controlled, again, by a man (well Ardyn was sort of a demigod but for all intents and purposes he was still a man). You could feel his anger, hatred, disgust by humans in his theme. The fight went on from the protagonists not knowing how to win, gained an upper hand, and well on the way to beating him. Then at the end of the battle, Shiva, the goddess of ice, aided us in our last stretch of the battle. (The ice motif at the end the piece was clear, right?) She was also his one true love, but she had to kill him because he went too far. She gave him an icy kiss, and he shattered to pieces. The song is a journey, that of fiery wrath, then the realisation that he's losing, and finally death by the hand of the woman he loved. If this isn't epic, I don't know what is. Yoko Shimomura is a music genuis.

I might get some stick for this but I'll say it anyway. Final Fantasy XV is my favourite Final Fantasy and my favourite game overall. I have played many other FFs and loved them all in their own way, but XV holds a special place in my heart. It is a beautifully flawed masterpiece and far too underrated imo. I've never felt such an emotional connection to a game and I know the music is a big part of that. There are multiple times in the game where the music, combined with what is happening at the time is almost transcendent.
