With my mom and dad both gone now 7+ years I must tell you it warms my heart to see people working with their parents. My dad and I built many many memories together doing such projects and oh how I cherish those times together. One trick i've used on the wet tubes of caulk that haven't fully dried.........wrap them with electrical tape. You won't have to wait as long before using. Plus, it ensures thstre strength of the tube.
