If you use an oscilloscope and take the reading with the sub connected that will account for impedence rise. Highly recommend doing this somewhere away from people, neighborhood, etc... Lol

I've actually set my gains by multimeter, but you have to know your subwoofers watts RMS also max wattage, I have 4 DB drive G5s and 2 taramp HD 3000K on 2 of each they are 1500 watt RMS peice, so your gains need to match your wattage and voltage of head unit some amps don't like being above 2 volts, some amps have different ways they output voltage aswell.

Could you help me figure out the proper voltage for mine. I have three 800 watts RMS DVC 2 ohm subs and a 4900.1 RMS amp.
@longrifle325 Жыл бұрын
@@jRomero713be careful when setting up amp with just a multimeter, it doesn’t account for the distortion or clipping. Invest in a cheap Liumy Oscope or DD1. ohms law for Voltage = square root of watts x ohms. For example, a 500W RMS amplifier at 2 Ohms would configure like this: 500W RMS X 2 Ohms = 1000W. Now take the square root of 1000W and your voltage should be 31.62V. How do you have your subs wired up at the amp in ohms? 0.3 , 1.33, 3 or 12 ohm? Just multiply 2,400 (watts rms) by your ohm load at the amp and find the square root of that to find AC voltage. Example: Voltage would be 55.85 if you have subs at 1.3 ohms. 2400x1.3=3120 Square root of 3200 = 55.85 There are a lot of KZbin videos of how to do this bro. @jamesg82464 жыл бұрын
The correct way to do this as far as the voltage is to take power target in watts, multiply by resistance (ohm load presented by amplifier) and then calculate the square root of that figure. That will tell you what target voltage you want to see at the amp outputs. Example: So my system has a single 2ohm dvc sub wired in parallel that presents roughly a 1ohm load to the amp. That's my resistance. I want to target 500 rms watts of power from my amp because my sub has a 400-600w RMS rating. So I take 500 X 1 = 500. Then the square root of 500 is 22.3. So if I set my head unit at the maximum volume level I will play at without clipping, max out bass knob, and set eq where I will use it(not flat, set it where it sounds good to you), connect multimeter the way you did. I would set gain until I see 22.3 volts AC. All of that assumes you know at what volume your head unit clips and also assumes that at 500w output your amp doesn't clip. You can use a $35 Amazon oscilloscope to see that very accurately instead of using a $200 single use tool.
@EZCustomzz Жыл бұрын
That’s how I do it. I also own a DD-1 and will just use that if the RMS of the subs match exactly to the RMS @ impedance of the amps total output. Easiest way to turn the Gain up to max right before clipping to ensure I’m getting the max out of the amp and for the subs

I bought 2, 3000w max scar audio 15’’ ZVX v2 subs at 1ohm each. I paired that with a SKv2 4500w mono block amp. Any suggestions on tuning? I just like the feeling of bass, I want them to kick as hard as possible without burning out the voice coils. Every time I have it set where I like it, not even a minute into a song the amp puts itself into “protect” mode and turns off. I assume its trying to stop it from frying itself but my last sub was way louder and cheaper than this set up… any suggestions at all would be helpful. It’s in a 2017 Prius prime, it has a generator not an alternator so upgrading alternator isn’t possible. I don’t think its a power issue, I have a 5000w capacitor my voltage is fine. It’s a parallel set up. I blew up my last set on purpose when the new stuff came in, bad idea cause that smell is still in the box and I cant help but think I’m ruining my new coils. Thanks.

I would go with 32-35hz range but depends on music preference. Give it time for them to breakin also. Make sure you aren’t clipping and monitor voltage. Also remember box size could affect output.
@braddunn59833 жыл бұрын
You are probably pulling main battery voltage down below where it needs to be. You can check this with volt meter or some cars have the actually volts on the dash see how low its pulling the battery down when it hits. I'm guessing if you have it wired to 1 or 2 ohm and it is pulling battery down that much you could either have to add additional batteries or rewire system to run at 4 ohm to bring the load down so it will run continuous, but first is find out if it's a voltage problem.

@JacobViral24 жыл бұрын
Because subsonic. It filters your bass the more you turn it up depending on the frequency you play.
@jamesg82464 жыл бұрын
A subsonic filter is just a high pass filter that you set to prevent frequencies below the set point from being amplified. So if you set your subsonic filter to 20hz it will reduce power to create a (usually a steep) 24db slope starting at 20hz. The amp isn't using as much power below 20hz so the gain could be set higher. But you don't want to set gains using sub 20hz frequencies in 99% of use cases.

@jamesg82464 жыл бұрын
You need to find out two things first with an oscilloscope. At what volume does your head unit clip and at what gain level does your amp clip. These measurements should be taken with all head unit settings like eq, loudness, etc... set the way you listen to it and if you have a bass knob it needs to be all the way up. If you set eq flat, and have everything off or knob turned down and tune the amp that way as soon as you raise the eq to sound good or turn on loudness or turn up knob you'll be straight into clipping.
@deedolan3994 жыл бұрын
Question for you Jake, just want to make sure I completely understand. Would you say that when setting the gain that you should have every head unit setting on 0(flat) and the LPF on the amp at our preference and the subsonic filter set cutting out bass below a certain frequency? Or should we set our head unit to what we like our music to sound like and set the gain with the subsonic filter wide open? Just want to make sure I get maximum safe performance.
@JacobViral24 жыл бұрын
I would always set everything personally the way you like it then do gains last. The reason is that if you change subsonic, LPF, HU Settings, equalized, etc it’ll affect gain so if you did all that first then gain it’s good: that’s why I always just keep everything flat and tune.

I'm old school too and just used the dummy lights in the days . I've always wondered why people get so anal on this . We set everything flat then override it all with line drivers . To top that off today's music is so screwed up and recorded at different levels . My slash says to set the output to 32 volts for 2 ohms 12 inch . Once I juice up some 60hz on my eq I'm no longer at that voltage.
