I would say they helped her because even tho she is Billy's daughter he was dead before she was born so she didn't have any real relation to Billy growing up until she found out he was her dad. So I would say Sid and Gale helped her out because they've been through it before and it's better to help stop Ghostface then to just ignore it and let people die. Usually where there's a Ghostface, there's an original survivors life being threatened.

0:24 - The films in the Scream franchise are always realistic about someone getting bitten. A paramedic told me "Trust me, human bites are VERY painful." He added that he laughed at how frequently horror films show the killer not even reacting to a bite.

Funny, cuz they're super unrealistic about the stab wounds. I'm this movie, Tara is stabbed once in the abdomen, and twice in the back by a 7 or 8 inch blade that goes in to the hilt. Even if it missed major organs, the amount of pain from the wounds and specifically the tightening from the sutures/staples to close them, would be debilitating. Yet she is not only able to walk around but lift the crutches over her head to beat Amber... who would no way have survived the that burning plus the bullet. But hey, adreneline i guess.

That was the reasoning behind the whole Scream franchise. Wes Craven got a brilliant idea when he was shopping in a local store on Halloween. He noticed that the "ghostface" mask was available in so many places and shuddered. He realized how easy it would be for anyone to buy one and go on a murder spree, therefore: A ) A single person could be the killer but it would be very difficult to find them without DNA evidence or witnesses B ) A conspiracy with multiple killers could be done C ) It could be used to keep the audience guessing as the movie progressed Interestingly, the production studio bought the trademark to the actual design of the mask so that's why you might see an official "Scream" logo on the packaging if you buy one at places like "Spirit of Halloween."
