Setting up a crossover to be used with bi-amp speakers - 4-conductor speaker wire

Video showing how a 4-conductor speaker cable is used in bi-amping a speaker. This requires a crossover.
The "trick" to good sound... bi-amping increasing efficiency of a sound system. By-passing a speakers internal crossover means no waste of amplfier wattage.

very informative video , I have a question, I have the same crossovers as you and im running a 3 way connection my speakers are a Cerwin Vega ab36 subs and Cerwin Vega cvp-2153 for mids and highs. what would you recommend for a calibration set for a low, mid and high - thnx

Thanks for the feedback. For the subs, a good x-over starting point is 100 hz. Try not to use anything below 70 hz for x-over point and not use anything above ~140hz. For your cvp-2153 cabinets, and assuming you have the internal wiring setup for actual bi-amp mode, a starting point for your mid-base speakers could be around the 1K point, which would have the horn handling around 1K and up. These xover points should be a place to start - depending on the type of music you are using the speakers for, can determine where the xover points could be setup. Remember... it all depends on the type of music and how you run your rig. There is no "direct" answer with xover points.

What about the horns power handling ¿? Or does the internal crossover take care of that¿?

If the speaker cabinet supports internal bi-amping, the internal crossover is bypassed. Therefore, all crossover functions are handled by the outboard crossover unit and not the internal crossover.

Hello - we always use a 2-way crossover. We use dbx-260 crossovers for our production systems. The analog units we have are used for backups and testing.

There's a lot less to manage with a 2-way system (compared to a 3 or 4-way). Internal crossovers in speakers have greatly improved over the years. From these crossover advancements, we no longer need to run 3-way systems. The 2-way systems do a very good job.

@@stageleftaudio are you using 100hz in low point in crossover freq??and also low cut in 40hz??
