...and yes, i agree also on setting up NOT against a wall. that's how i do it and that i think how we all should do it. setting up against a way might save space but setting up facing an open area can make the difference of spatial familiarity and a feeling of open ness. you tend to play longer hours when you feel open and not your back facing the people who might want to watch you at home practicing.

I have the same set up, a pair of Denon SC5000 primes but with an extra Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3 and a Pioneer DJM800 mixer and some Yamaha monitors. The only thing I would suggest adding is an orthopaedic office floor mat, I have hardwood floors in my house and it makes a massive difference when standing for any length of time.

It's a "thingyclub" one, look them up. I asked on another video and was told about them. Really solid, easy to position and look cool. I only use mine at home though as they are a bit heavy for me to take to clubs

Yeah great for a home studio :)

yes, i strongly agree with DJing placing the laptop on the side. i hate looking at DJs with laptops in front. they loose the commanding view of the crowd they need to be paying attention to.

I set up my gear in on my kitchen island and open the doors - I'm on the second floor and have a great view, pretend the neighbourhood are my crowd! People on the opposite building often come out and give me a wave when I'm mixing. Whoop Whoop!

I think the lighting should mimic the environment you will be mixing in so I like it dark but I have a small LED task light to light up the controller and turntables if they are being used.

Home Depot sell a husky work bench with adjustable height top. It works with a crank. They range in width by 3 different sizes but the depth is 24” Mine is 52”x24. They are actually shaped like a open desk. Look it up. Not too expensive and you can keep it in one area or move it around because it comes in casters.

You make a good point there facing the wall but it really depends what floor at home you have your setup on , if it's upstairs then you have to have it facing the wall due to the solid weight on the support beams to balance it out on the flooring on most standard houses or flats , so that's probably a reason why many Dj's will have their setups facing the wall ?
@digitaldjtips4 жыл бұрын
I can't say I've ever considered that when placing (anything) upstairs in my house

Hey Phil, I am a beginner that started learning Christmas Day. I have already learned so much from Digital Dj Tips. Thank you for all the helpful videos. However, I was wondering if you have any tips for me to set up my laptop or iPad Pro in an ideal position. I am legally blind and really don’t see too well. Any tips for anything like that?

Here's one from my plan for a DJ space that may be good for some of you. See if you can get a set of legs for your desk that allow you to raise them into a standing desk. I suggest this simply because it means that if you have a dual purpose for your desk space, you can lower it for regular use, and then raise the surface for dj practice. Obviously, this is better suited to the laptop + controller side of things. ;-)

OFF TOPIC: Help needed for my ddj-sx2. My left jog wheel is not responding to touch and scratch. Tons of others with same problem. I ev tried shift + vinyl/slip, different USB, laptop, laptop only and controller without connecting speakers no luck. Research says its grounding problem don't know how to fix that.
@digitaldjtips4 жыл бұрын
Perhaps time for an upgrade, how long have you had it?
@Midnytcowboy4 жыл бұрын
@@digitaldjtips Hello thanks for replying. Its less than 2 years old. done a lot of research and it seems like a common problem with pioneers decks and even the people that had their units returned and replaced with brand new or fixed under warranty still complained that their 2nd/3rd unit still had same issue. Pioneer and serato forum adviced it's a grounding problem cos the touch sensor depends on electrical properties of human body. but nobody has offered a solution on how to ground the unit apart from touching the metal chases of the unit which hasn't worked in my case. Not planning on any upgrade right now hence this unit suites my needs for mobile gigs.
