This was fascinating, Mary, and a very clear and easy to follow tutorial. My children bought me an upright loom for my last birthday and I can see how essentially they do the same weaving...only your peg loom looks much easier and quicker to use. I have made a couple of wall hangings but I'm not sure I'd have the staying power to create a rug. Thanks for sharing and hope you feel better soon 💗

Im really glad you found this interesting. I think if you just set a rug up and kept going back to it when you felt like it, you would soon create a good rag rug and use all your scraps. Or a woollen rug for that matter. All you need is time and we crafters never have enough of that do we lol xxx tfw

Can I make a few pieces that size and connect them. If so how do you do it and make it look cohesive?
@marybarratt2649
@marybarratt2649 3 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the yarn you use. This type of loom only gives a loose tension so it is difficult joining pieces. Ive not joined any but would probably try crochet. You could put two pieces together and oversew them or do a cross stitch from side to side. Depends what you want to make. This size loom is usually for smaller items, like scarves. I have seen a lady on youtube with a really wide loom with lots of pegs and she was making rag rugs in one piece. Ok if you have the space I suppose. I havent experimented much I must say. If you get any good results, let me know. Thanks for watching Steff.

@marybarratt2649
@marybarratt2649 Жыл бұрын
Hi Pat, Ive not joined any pieces, but would probably join with an oversew stitch. The finished piece would not be too strong with the warp and weft being fairly wide. Ive only used the loom for scarves and I reduce the number of pegs. Ive noticed that there are a few online channels on peg looms, may be worth looking at those. Thank you for your interest. I appreciate it.

@marybarratt2649
@marybarratt2649 3 жыл бұрын
Im sorry I have only just picked this up Dave. I just start with a new colour and then sew in the ends when the piece is completed. You could join with a knot if you wanted to. It might be easier to join in a new colour at the beginning of a row and sew it in again at the end. Does that help?

@@marybarratt2649 Hi Mary, no I don't knit. I lack the basic coordination needed for that. I am neither fully right or left handed. My interest in this came from chatting to a neighbour. We live in a small remote hamlet in sheep farming country. She has just made a peg loom and wanted some raw wool to try out on it. I was able to provide a sackful of wool in colours ranging from off white to almost black. It seems that to make a coarse rug the wool does not need to be spun first but is just pulled into strands/hunks from the fleece. So not having seen the process in action yet I searched and chanced on you excellent tutorial and am now enlightened!
