Setting up an SDR panadapter for the first time

In this video Jon G4ABQ sets up an SDRplay RSPdx as a panadapter/main station receiver for his ICOM-718 and Drake L7 Linear amplifier combination. By using an MFJ T/R switch the SDR is protected from the high power transmissions. This step by step video shows how to set up Omnirig software to ensure synchronised operation between SDR and transceiver.

Very helpful video! I have an IC-718. What cable did you use for the “Control” jack on the MFJ-1708B-SDR to the radio? I can’t find one. In the Icom manual it says it’s a “Send Control” Jack. Could you provide a link where you can purchase one? Thanks

Question about the jumpers you mention around the 6:45 mark, do you have to adjust your jumper because of the linear amp? I have to imagine the jumper would come the correct way from the factory for what most people are trying to do with it, which is, protect the SDR on transmit. Am I missing something?

It's purely because I'm using it with a linear amp which requires a "ground to transmit" signal. The default for that secondary "AUX" out is to "ground on receive" . Their datasheet descrivbes it as "An AUX output that can be set to ground to receive or ground to transmit"

The only difference would be selecting that rig in Omnirig and using TX_GND to control the switch. Everything you need to know is in the pan adapter Webinar linked in the description.
