@@ColtCapperruneHaha, I just published a video on KZbin 6 weeks ago called "German Organisation & Effiency: Epic Studio Tour" where I talked about labelling every single cable with a Brother labelmaker and documenting all the power / snake / MIDI inputs as well as using power conditioners with lamps. Well done, I approve! 😂

I started working for an AVL integration and production company at the start of this year.. and making custom length snakes and cables has been one of my most valuable skills ive learned how to do. The longest part, at least for me, is soldering all the XLR and DMX ends. We also make our own ethernet cables but thats its own beast making sure you have your twisted pairs in the right order. But all in all its been a valuable skillset for me building a studio in my home.

Hi buddy, two thoughts: it’d be cheap, you can cut an amber light gel into little strips and cover the white light to creat a warmer glow on the conditioners. Also, I’d encourage you to put some kind of ventilated covers on the back of the producers desk, (like a type of lattice), so someone doesn’t accidentally kick the back of your gear when sitting on a stool. It all looks great! Great job filming too!

Excellent job! and looks so amazing man! 👏 I was on the hunt for a 3-bay rack but couldn’t find one that met my needs, so I decided to have one custom made. At the last moment, we came up with the idea of adding holes between the bays. This way, we could connect a device in rack A to rack C without having to loop the cables from behind. It reminded me of a point in a video where I saw someone opening a hole by hand😅; it turns out I went through the same process! 5:13😝

It's quite an amazing achievement. It certainly fulfills my love of all things knobby and switchy. Those two 500 series units seen at 11:38 with the curvy meter doodad is especially aesthetic. Not sure what that is, but it's very tasty looking. This is the first room I've seen where someone achieved a pure bare wall look, but it's actually absorbers.

Damn, I've never thought of using a cloth to gently place the outboard in the desk racks. And you can plainly see the result of not using a cloth on the top of your Distressor at 11:17! Great tip.

DadMOM works really well in my ATMOS room. I still recommend it. also running the newest MTRX II, which I upgraded my old MTRX I purchased two years ago. Love the new setup. Sold my older MTRX to a friend in LA at a post house. It was just what he needed and only had to spent maybe another $1200 to get the new one and my AD DA and cards went into my new MTRX II.

You may be too close to the project to see the raw plywood poking out from between your rear wall diffuser panels. Flat black paint may be too much of a pain but you can also staple up black “stop grow” cloth for use in gardens or just black cloth. It’ll make the joint just that more rad. Keep up the great work - you’re an inspiration.

First I have loved this series and how it turned out. It's been a blast watching how you tackled every aspect of it. Am I the only one who wishes the live edge was on the producer's side? Also, can you add doors on the back of the racks on the producer's side so they don't put their feet all over your gear?

Dream studio there bro! Well done, the Phillips lighting is so clean and the warmer hue is perfect for those late night sessions. Realistically after all that effort you're gunna have to chase those wires through the floor once the Atmos comes, can't have those cables everywhere.

I’m absolutely dreading cutting holes in the floor, it is five layers, thick with doubled, and triple up floor joists from when we built the house around this studio. I’m nervous. It will make the soundproofing of the room significantly worse, in addition to the headache of actually doing it. But time will tell, it may annoy me to the point where I do it anyway. Thanks for watching!

Very nice vibe! Well done. I understand about neat cable management. I HATE cables exposed and strung everywhere. I don't have as much gear as you but I have quite a bit. My solution was to put it all into a single big rack. That way all of the cables are in one location. The only cables leaving the rack are computer monitors, power, and my external guitar rig Ox Box. The problem with that is that my rack is full and I have no more room for additional gear. That kind of makes me less enthusiastic about buying more gear and that's a good thing. :o) That's how much I hate cable-clutter! I understand that is not an option for you. 500 series stuff has been a Godsend for me. A lot of gear can be crammed into a tight space. As far as documenting the cabling goes, I have an Excel spreadsheet that I made and spent a ridiculous amount of time in the planning stages with it before I ever hooked anything up or made any cables. Most of my interconnects are either TRS or XLR. I only have one DB25 unit. All of my patchbays are TRS. I make all of my own cabling and snakes using quality cable and plugs so I can make them whatever length I need to in order to keep the internal rack mess at a minimum. I use colored shrink tube at both ends of each run and on each snake and those go onto the spreadsheet along with the patch point locations for every I/O in the patchbays. There are no duplicate colors anywhere in my system so problems are easy to trace even though I have never had any interconnect problems whatsoever due to the excessive planning I do before ever making any cables. I use the spreadsheet as a guide as I am making the cables so when it comes time to plug everything in I use the spreadsheet as a map. I am always amazed that everything works as it should, the very first time, every time. I learned that lesson the hard way after doing this stuff since the late 70's. I would like to see a video about how you keep all the dust cleaned out of the racks and off of everything. That is always a problem for me and I haven't found a solution I am happy with. Feather dusters and brushes just move the dust from one place to another and don't really clean anything. I haven't been able to find a brush attachment for a vacuum cleaner with long, or soft enough bristles to get the job done satisfactorily. Especially inside the rack. Thank you for documenting your journey. It is inspiring to see how someone else does it.

Love the room! I’m also in a bonus room above the garage. I mix tv shows from here every day. You won’t regret a DAD MOM. In addition to the normal stuff, like dim, cut, talkback, you get layers which expands your sources. Say you have a different layer just for referencing ATMOS. You can quickly listen to just sides or just tops etc to see what other people are doing with the space. Quickly being able to listen to different down mixes is nice as well. Plus no added software to run it. Just load up your last profile and get to work.
