Im in my 50s, and this took me back to the great days of the 80s. When we got a new board and put on our own grip tape.. indy trucks.. side guard rails and tail. Putting on those soft wide gripping wheels for skaking asphalt or cement streets in the city... always a smooth ride 😎. I MISS THOSE DAYS... 😪😪

@RaySpencersArtWork I really wish I could.. I am a severe Type A hemophiliac. With a rare mutation that doesn't allow my body to accept blood clotting factors to help me clot my blood if I was to fall or get a joint injury or internal bleeding. I would bleed uncontrollably and die.. I wasn't predicted to live past 20 or so.. So my folks let me enjoy life and experience skateboarding 🛹.. Unlike those who also had my disease, their parents chose to keep them away from sports activities and social events where they could get hurt. Even though medicine works for them and they could heal in days. I couldn't do that.. It was risky for me cause one fall or head bump, and I'd bleed to death. But hey, I loved to skateboard. I'm crippled now .. However, the experience and MEMORIES were totally worth it, bro. I'd rather live than be locked in a house away from the world like some of my friends we're with my disease. Keep RIDING, BRO .. have fun for me, too. ✌🏼 out.

@@christopherespinosa7319I congratulate you on skating without injury, and for having such bold parents! I still have my trusty skates right here beside me, and 67 years behind me. When it's windy I use a sail to skate too. I am sorry to hear of your challenge with hemophilia -- and I want to mention a way to slow or stop bleeding: regular sugar can be poured directly in a wound, and stops blood flow as it creates a change in osmotic pressure which could save a life. Likewise, a banana has been used to pack a wound when a man was gored by a bull. This probably won't happen to you, but may your life be sweet.

@@christopherespinosa7319 Aw, that's no fun. There are these things called 'tech decks' that came out between the Eighties and now, though. I liked 'em a bit as a late teen, my students like 'em now. Basically BMX trick bikes and skateboards, except they're tiny. You can use 'em with two fingers on a desk. And some folks will customize 'em and make the skateboard of their dreams, just little. Just because it's a bit travel-sized and a bit less hard on your knees doesn't make it any less real. I know folks who have specific vintage car collections in Hot Wheels, who can do awesome skateboard tricks on the sickest ramps and half-pipes you ever saw on a desk, and who've built entire towns with little trains running through. If something makes you happy? Larger than life is just the right size to be. Don't dream it, be it.

I built skateboards until very recently. Had a work injury that disabled me. But man, I miss it. I wish I could get a board like this and match it with the perfect trucks, bearings, and wheels. I don't remember how many boards I've built or how many I've refurbished the skid tape. Now, I prefer the long boards with double trucks and big road wheels with fast bearings so I can cruise like I'm on a long board on the North Shore, but these 80s boards were the second style I used, after the little plastic kids' boards. I spent hours on one board my brother bought for me when I was 13 in 1985. God knows where it went, and God knows I wish I still had it. This short brought back so may memories of that board.

Man this brought back memories of all the crazy grip setups i used to make. I remember catching so much shit for hijacking my moms craft tools and butchering all her expensive blades meticulously etching shit into my grip lol. Great times.

Me and my buddy’s would spend hours setting up our decks and tape growing up. Most would just do cut outs like this or stencils I had one buddy do a cheetah design once just cut out a bunch of little circles n slapped them on. Boards would end up trashed in a weeks time anyways but it was always the best feeling landing a trick on a new deck.

We really need to develop some really clear grip tape technology. That design on the top of the board deserves to be seen.
