I am really wondering: How did adding the sub got rid of that roommode? The Correction couldn't handle it before, but it seemed to be better after adding the sub? I mean, that is why you chose the crossover quite high, isn't it? Also: Where is the sub placed?

This is a long time to work with a pair of monitors and I know them inside out, but I'm building a new, bigger room to work in and starting to think about upgrading. Thoughts on how you're getting on with them Warren, would be great. Is it subtle, or are they making you you do some things differently? Is there anything which stands out as missing from your old monitors? And that sort of stuff! Would be interested to know. Ta!

Thanks for another great video Warren. I know you'll love the Gennys more and more as you tune in to them. I've been using the 8361A speakers in my mastering studio for a few months now. My previous speakers were PMC IB1S (passive, driven by two Bryston 14B amps). As much as I loved the PMCs the Genelecs are IMHO a more accurate speaker, even before applying the Genelec room calibration. And the imaging of the Gennys....SUPERB! The Genelec room correction software is great. I LOVE being able to switch the stored listening positions! That way clients can hear the balance of the master more accurately from their sitting position. I was so impressed that I bought a pair of 8030C to use for on location recordings in halls and auditoriums so the artists can review a take if they need to. And also as an extra listening reference for me, in addition to headphones. Genelec...kiitos upeista kaiuttimista.

Hello! You write - "Genelec room correction software is great." I can't understand just one thing. After watching the video carefully and seeing that the auto adjustment did NOTHING from 300 kHz to the very top of 22 kHz. It did NOTHING for it. The green graph remained 100% exactly the same as BEFORE the correction. The question is - what is the point of GLM then, if it does nothing for 80% of the frequency spectrum? It also has (as I understood from the video) only 4-5 EQ reduction points. But GLM did not help to Raise and correct the EQ up / correct the dips. As a result, the monitors remained 80% sound WITHOUT correction. This is very bad and strange. Why didn't they immediately raise this issue in the video?
@gregpastic69104 ай бұрын
@@sergeyleps8492 The video is more than three years old, and since then the software has been updated and improved several times. Nothing is perfect, ever. And, correcting low frequences (below 100 or so) is the most important area to address. Most rooms have less issues in the higher frequences but huge problems in the low end. If you have other questions or concerns I would suggest you contact Genelec directly. Their tech help is great and they respond promptly. Cheers!

I'll leave that story alone, but I'm almost certain we had crossed paths on at-least one occasion back back when I was living & working in L.A. wearing various professional hats to support my artist self I guess you could say. You know how that goes, but I did a modest bit of session work as a guitarist on both major and independent projects for a spell, among other things we fall into. 1995 to 2001were my most pro-active years there, and, but... The most insightful part of the video for me was from 12:30 to 13:30. There is so much more depth these days with everyone using limiting and multiband compression, and dynamic EQ's, todays music, every thing is more forward. So you need monitors that can provide this detail. After getting updated monitors, he wished he could remix some sessions he had as with new newer monitors as they are allowing him to hear things he did not hear with the other monitors. I found the same thing when I compared my Focal Twins to the ATC ACM 25a's. It would be nice to hear an update on how your getting along with the newer Genelec's and perhaps some of the many pros and maybe a con compared to your old monitors. If your using a Genelec subwoofer, does the 8351B's have any advantage over their smaller 8341's that also could use the subwoofer?

Dips around 100Hz and below are due to phase issues with the front wall. It's actually recommended to keep the monitors closer to the wall - that will result in a little base buildup (correctable by EQ) and the phase issues will be higher (medium acoustic treatment takes care of them). Low phase issues (caused by distance to the front wall) are very hard to treat with absorbers and are NOT correctable by EQ. The same situation is in Warren's room. Luckily, the sub saves the day but this monitors would've been enough in correct positioning. PS: GLM can't do nothing about dips since it only uses subtractive EQ - but even if it were using additive EQ, it could not correct them.

Thanks guys, great video. Cheers from Canada. On my GLM set up I have left the calibration mic hanging over my head. That way when I click on GLM4 it shows me an SPL reading. I find that the Genelec's are so clean that they get loud before I notice really how loud they are. So this helps keep me in check for those times when I'm getting carried away. I must admit that I always disliked that "genelec sound". The sound of the 90ies Genelecs, just like the ones you had before, Warren. That being said I strolled around at an audio convention and waited next to the Genelec booth, because I wanted to listen to a panel which was about to start. Than a guy from Genelec approached me and I was actuallly looking for new monitors. I told him right away that I liked his kind attitude and the company, but I never liked their products. But I know that there are a lot of audio people who like them and it's all good. I am more a Klein & Hummel (now belongs to Neumann, but still basically the same team of engineers) or Geithain type of person, maybe also ATC or PSI. He told me he knows about this, ppl either loving or hating that "Genelec sound". But he invited me to just give that new series a try. I did just that and came over every single day, convention was 4 days, just to enjoy the Ones. Fantastic! I brought my own material, CDs I liked and such. I met Aki Mäkivirta, who is both very knowledgeable and kind, too. We ended up with two sets of two 8331 and a 7360 subwoofer, both were calibrated with the GLM system. I could not be happier! And not only is that series totally different compared to the older series' I always ran away from. Genelec is really a great company. The use green energy in their factory in Finland, they are happy people and not like some other pretty arrogant companies out there. One in particular; I like their products, but not their attitide. So I would not buy anything from them. Maybe from the used market, but not new. But, now Genelec blessed us with the Ones and I am not even looking for anything else. Great choice, Warren 😎 I think the GLM system should be a standard with the speakers, they should just include it and adjust the price. Our rooms were pretty flat already, but GLM also adjusts the link between the satellites (8331) and the subwoofer (7360). After those adjustments, the sub feels very "integrated", not a separate speaker, the whole system works perfectly like a unit. Soundwise, the system is pretty honest ;-) Shitty mixes sounds aweful, fine details can be heard easily and when you have a great production, those speakers deliver just that. Absolutely stunning. Really. Top notch.

This is some seriously cool software - and VERY user-friendly for such a high-end piece of hardware. One day my goal is to own a pair of the highest of The Ones: the 8361A studio monitors. They're about as perfect as you can get from the size of the speaker. Eventually, I would potentially build up enough of a collection to use them in a full Atmos surround setup. That would be absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

How would you compare them to your Focal Trios? If you could only select one pair, which one would it be?

Audio geek’s heaven! Is there such a thing as a perfect speaker? Genelec clearly think so.

Haha we all have our own idea of what perfect is!

Years ago, when the Roland V-Piano was the hot thing out, I went by the Guitar Center here in Nashville. They had it ran through some Genelec's with a sub. It was the first time I'd ever heard of Genelec. I was so blown away. I never forgot the name and they were forever burned into my brain. I am now in the market to upgrade my monitors that I play my keyboard through. Any suggestion? Great video. The representative from Genelec was very knowledgeable. Thanks Warren!

Now that you've had time to work on these, how would you compare them with your Focal Trio 11s? They're in the same price point, but are really different designs. I'm currently comparing the Focal Trio 11 BEs, Neumann KH 420s, and Genelec 8351s.

I think everybody will recognize this: When you buy new (better!) speakers, most of the time I think: "My old speakers sounded better". That is not because they WERE better, but because you have been listening to them for such a long time, that your ears have become used to the sound they produce. In general it takes time to get used to new (and better!) speakers.

What are these Genelec speakers compared to the Eve audio sc3070? Eve's are in my price range but worth saving a bit more?

Your comment of these new speakers showing more mix problems is a good thing, I like it when speakers will reveal if there is too much biting 3-4k on electric gtrs which needs to be tamed, great review as always! I am hoping to hear these in my area where I live

Yeah, the Genelecs (I have old 1030As) can be brutally accurate!

It's both a blessing and a curse, since the amount of problems you may spot with good studio monitors is basically endless. You just get to a point where you find yourself running in circles and that's when you know your work is done. At least that's how it's been for me.

I would contest re-calibrate it when no one’s in the room. Reflections can affect the calibration tremendously.
@rabarebra Жыл бұрын
So after calibration and you enter the room, your body is not part of its calibration, so it will be off?

@@morespinach9832 Was going to add the sub, so I was getting closer to Kii range with the Ones. I did get a discount on the Kii Three. But in the end still a price difference, yes.

Warren! Maybe it doesn't matter now because you have the sub. BUT I have that exact same huge null cancelation around 100. I tried many positions......but when I put the right against the wall.....the null disappeared and the reading flattened out. There is a weird cancelation that happens in the 1.5 to 3 meter distance from the wall.

Question for Steffenee: I have a pair of 8040A monitors in my home studio. The room is approximately 5x5m and somewhat sound treated and I don't notice any major buildups of bass, but I do notice that my mixes can sound a bit bass heavy on some other systems. Would I benefit from adding a small Sub like the 7350 to my setup or would it be too much for this size room? My speakers aren't compatible with the calibration software either I don't think. Thanks.
